Mayagüez Mall, THEN and NOW 

I have to say when I was in Puerto Rico I was impressed by the mall in Carolina and Bayamón they were both kept nice.

Last time I was there was in the 80’s when stores like Gonzalez Padin existed, now that tells you how old I am

Flash Back!!! i remember back when i was a kid going to timeout for us and pitusa for the parents and then KAY-BEE toys in the early 2000's, i remember then going to the old movie theater! the original! then they build and new one a took it down? WTH thats all i remember haha, ohh and dont forget barnes and nobles! No mall is like that one, i used to go there just to hang out.

It's just depressing now - from Aguadilla to Mayagüez. The corruption has taken everything and anyone with money has left for the States. All roads are broken in Mayagüez, the mayor stole from everyone, people keep electing morons, and zero accountability. I now am in Ohio to get my Mom to the hospital. Bella Vista had too many outages and she could not see the oncologist, she is stage 4. Then my Abuela died in May of cancer because she could not get her scans. The mall is a ghost town and it sucks, but people are literally dying because of the dysfunction and lack of services. It's a terrible situation.

Years back Mayaguez mall was one of the best place to shop in Puerto Rico. Now it has so many empty lots. It has changed so much.

Hi Ana , that mall looks better than some out here in NYC even with the close stores , i have a suggestion, have you tried using a gimbal for your streaming? Reason I ask is because when you turn side to side your picture gets blurred and that causes headaches for some people , that motion side to side , the gimbal would make the camera or phone turn slightly even if you turn it fast , just a suggestion

I haven't been there since 2015. I have many found memories of going there with my mom and brother when I was a kid and by myself when I had a big gap between classes in college. The mall is a shadow of its former self.

Pizza Circo is the best of the mall 🍕

The super bad administration has this mall in the past. No innovation, same old design and ugly floors. It is a shame, like the entire Puerto Rico how it is at this moment, super sad. Cheers to the old days!

Even though few stores closed, the mall still looks great with plenty of shoppers, have to visit one day, thank you for the video.

Meanwhile, Plaza Las Americas and Plaza Carolina are thriving malls.

Many good stores have come and closed over the past 15 years! The mall is not what it used to be. Is all food and clothes now.

So, funny story: Around the summer of 1980, my mom really wanted to see Friday The 13th with her friends at the Mayaguez Mall. That weekend, my sister was at a friend's house, so she could not stay with me. I wanted to see Star Wars (which had a three year delay before it was released in Puerto Rico). Mom promised me Star Wars. But, when we got to the movie theater in Mayaguez Mall that night, her firends convinced her otherwise. Yep, I sat through Friday The 13th as a 7 year old. I did not forgive mom until I was like 16 years old. 😂

Kress cerró porque los dueños murieron en Miami (with a Hurricane). Cookies & Cream se mudo Añasco (primero a Cabo Rojo) y ahora es un concepto diferente pero venden más que lo que eran antes. El pasillo de Sears falleció antes que Sears lo hiciera. La tienda de discos, habían dos en todo el mall y cerraron hace años. El Pizza Hut está abierto por siaca. La pizza de Pizza Circo no a cambiado de sabor, sigue igual de buena. En verdad nunca me gusto el mall, no creo que haya sido el mejor mall de Puerto Rico, pero si habían mucho más cosas que ahora.

Wow my childhood memories, i grew up going to that mall every weekend, but moved to the states in 2010. Lots of things look the same but a lot of empty stores.

Antes eso ahi era magia, ahora es casi depresivo en comparación excepto por 1 o 2 tiendas. Lo mas que me choca es que no hace sentido, porque el sitio no se vacía nunca (conseguir estacionamiento sigue siendo un deporte extremo) sin embargo cada vez hay menos tiendas o al menos mas pequeñas. ¿Sera que las rentas son demasiado altas o que? El downsize ha sido bastante fuerte mientras otros lugares como Aguadilla Mall han crecido muchísimo.

The problem with malls is that they are completely detached from pedestrian areas and have enormous parkinglots that take alot of tax money to upkeep and on avarage downtown comercial districts bring in more revenue than detached stores on the edge of town. The way to make malls better is to incorporate them into town and not have them be separate. If they're incorporated into the city, the mall will always have enough customers to maintain operations and make a profit.
