Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms

Your boys and girl will appreciate the tractor as a link to their past. As far as restoring it, haven't you been a little busy lately ?

Lol in the 3 or so yrs I've been here I think I've saw less than 10 videos where he wasn't busy. He did 2 or 3 lives on his porch at night , a couple in the car with his wife and 3 or 4 vacation / farm show vids. 99 % of the vids he is way busier than most people want to be

His uncle Jack is a pretty good mechanic, most likely if we see any help around it'll be him. Jack helped get the project to the point it is now and I always figured once Nathan got tired of looking at the clutter Jack would be making another appearance.

I remember when you drug the old tractor in and Jack spent days tearing it apart. Hard to believe that was years ago.

I understand the dilemma with the old tractor. I had some similar choices with an old tractor and weighing cost vs. benefit including sentimental value. I didn't want to just store it forever if it wouldn't run. Luckily I was able to get mine running with only limited expense. Hopefully it stays that way. I was worried of getting into it deeper than I wanted but then also feeling obligated to see it through. Maybe your uncle will be interested in helping once you have the block back. I would think you could put a tube in that cart tire cheaper than a whole new wheel and tire but who knows these days.

You should team up with “A few acres farm” he has restored and fixed many of those old tractors. He knows what things are and where to get parts. Be cool to team up and make a series on that tractor with him.

Good idea. Evan at Country View Acres is trying to redo an old Allis , he speaks very highly of Pete for the help and motivation . I think most of the helpwas from Pete's videos though as I've never saw Evan do a colab but Petes videos are pretty detailed.

I would enjoy seeing that old husk moving under its own power. Maybe a dination to a local FFA group with the agreement that they film the work. Then they could auction it off to the benefit of the chapter

Ceiling fans will be well worthwhile in your warehouse. Plus they might help cool a bit in the summer.

Issue some areas have with cold is bussing. Pick up at bus stops. Break down concerns. Added: clothing. (Donate boots coats hats and gloves). Some areas are just not setup for it.

Just a question. Maybe a better question for Brock... does your local FFA and High School Vo-Ag do rebuilds? Might be worth checking out.

Low velocity fans. Likely only need 2 for that space. Is better than a lot of small fans. Do this in warehouses all the time. Fewer. Less energy. Believe Menards has. .

You are correct, the inside of that transmission is fascinating. I have restored several of the older John Deere’s and those cut gears look familiar. When you think about it, the folks back in those days used their brains, a pencil and a slide rule to design those gears. No computers in those days. It’s fun to work on those. When you’re done, you’ll be one proud grandson/great grandson. I’ve restored the first two tractors my dad owned with one being the very first mechanical thing I drove and that’s been 65 years ago.

Sorry to have opened up a can of worms. I think you need to evaluate the family's sentimental value versus the enjoyment for someone else. Maybe you should give it to some FFA kid. I'm afraid dust erodes memories, and a little mud on the tires enhances them. Who knows what your kids will want to do. I know any decision can always wait.
