No one has ever captured the joy and cruelty of cycling the way Mohoric did in this interview. Chapeu! Every bike racer, amateur or professional, can relate to his humility and recognition that a peloton is full of rock stars. It is a sport that keeps you grounded while, at his level, demanding inhumane beautiful suffering.. But the way he articulated the emotions, honored Mader, thanked his support staff, hinted at imposter syndrome...just wow. Classy, smart, and immensely talented guy. He made a lot of new friends and fans today.

The most beautiful line in the interview imo was something to the effect of, "I saw how much pain everyone was in on Col de la Loze in the Grupetto, and I wish all of them could have won a stage." Nearly made me cry. What a wonderful moment from Matej
Год назад
Hearing him say he's "Not as strong as the others", I go WTF dude, you're an absolute beast, one of the best breakaway riders and descenders of his generation. I hope this win gives him confidence, he should realize how good he is.
@christopherdolan7330
@christopherdolan7330 Год назад
I think Matej was talking more about the strength of the riders around him, moreso than doubting his own abilities. He knows he is a great rider with the ability to win the biggest races. He knows the amount of preparation he put into being in peak form for the Tour. And yet, it's *still* hard to follow wheels because everyone else is so strong at the Tour. It's a reminder of just how hard the Tour is for everyone involved, even a rider of Matej's class.

@jonskislo1

@@christopherdolan7330 Yeah it is something along those lines. Didn't listen to the whole interview in english, but right before, when he had done it in Slovenian, he mentioned something to the like: "Easily, it s very cruel to compete at the top, because everyone is so well prepared (he uses different words, but the meaning is sth similar) ... the last time ... when we were riding up on the (some mountain pass), I was embarrassed in front of all the fans from Slovenia ... I was completely out of energy and strength ... you are at those 140 hb per minute, 300 watts of power, that any recreational cyclists can output cuz you are just so exhausted from everything ... at the same time you have already been 3-4 months away from home etc. etc. and you feel stupid (and embarrassed) as you are trying to reach the time threshold (idk what s the correct term, dont watch cycling too much)." The slovenian one is a lot more emotional and it really hits you.

In an age where most sports interviews are generic and scripted. This man told it like it is. Straight from the hip. Real emotion and real heart felt opinion. He had the guts to say what he really felt and he took his victory moment to point out that everyone out there is elite deserves respect and truly wishes others could feel the joy of winning. This guy may not be in the yellow but he is a TDF champion in my book. If there was a jersey given for class, he would be wearing it!

What a contrast to yet again having to watch Philipsen out on the road gesturing and yelling at other guys on other teams demanding they work harder, even while he wouldn't do a pull of more than 2 seconds. Supreme douchebag. Once again, made it so gratifying to cheer for the break and to see a good guy like Mohoric win, so satisfying.

As a Dane, i wanted Kasper to win. And i cursed alot when i saw the photofinish. Then i saw Mohoric's interwiev. And i must admit that i got goosebumps. If a Dane couldn't win, then im happy that such a genuine and open guy wins. Also the stage it self. It was a beast of a race. The 5th fastest stage ever. So much going on all the time. Non stop action. Sometimes a stage like this, where a breakaway often wins can be rather boring. They get an early break, get a 20 minute lead, and no action untill the last 5 km. But this stage, as most of the tour, has been a firework with explosions all over the place all the time. I love it.
