MAYDAY! VESSEL ON FIRE 🔥😮🚤

Around 5:45pm on August 27th 2024, a mayday was heard on channel 16 with a vessel reporting to have fire on board. A nearby good samaritan came to the persons aid and got him off the boat before it had fully engulfed into flames. Macomb County Marine Division quickly responded to battle the blaze. TowboatUS Lake St. Clair got on scene to provide any assistance for the marine division. While this was all happening, a severe thunderstorm was rolling across the lake with winds over 60mph and dangerous lightning. The fire was brought under control and the recovery then began. Tremendous efforts by all who were involved. Unfortunate situation but NO ONE WAS HURT 🙏 As we saw with this event, the people of Lake St. Clair, the Marine Division, United States Coast Guard and TowBoatUS will always be there for each other 💪

Nicely done guys. I'm surprised there aren't more fires on gas boats with all the inexperienced boaters on the water. My head is on a swivel at a gas dock as I did see an explosion years ago while waiting in the creek, Stay safe!

At 3:00 that guy operates the fire cannon like my four year old uses the potty, LOL! (I'm sure it's not as easy as it looks but that water was going EVERYWHERE but on the fire)

@@ChrisGoosman he had to catch up to a moving boat. We could not stop the tow or the boat would go down. All while we still had wind gust to 30mph from the storms that passed and coming in

@@SeaNickLakeStClair The fuel tank and the engine room must be in chilled condition in the summer months 😮They must also be in separate sealed chambers and kept under temperature controlled conditions 😮😮

They could have just let it burn to the waterline and gotten off the water sooner. The result was going to be the same either way.

@@P.Rack25 no, letting it burn would have eventually breached the fuel tank causing even more pollution. Not to mention the danger to others in the area that didn’t have the sense to keep a distance. Getting the fire out as quickly as possible and then removing the boat from the water was the best course of action

@@SeaNickLakeStClair Good point! I guess I was coming from the perspective of the crap conditions with the storm coming and get everyone safe. I'm glad it all worked out.
