Not something we see others use often but we like "sock shoes" for camp shoes...basically a sock with rubber bottom. Several options out there. Skinners are the lightest we've tried (4.2oz for one) and pretty expensive. Goat Grips are heavier and thicker (7.1oz for one) but less expensive. They pack small and are not bulky like Crocs. Cons are they take awhile to dry if soaked (like socks) and can get stinky if you sweat in them (machine washable tho). We've also hiked on the AT in them in chilly weather, and they feel great (to us). Thx for the vid!
Great comment! I saw something like that and thought…I need to check those out. If they have a rubber bottom, that sounds like a good deal. Thanks so much for watching it. 🙏
I have a pair of Mayfly imagos. I use them in summer but I’ll tell you, if you’re camping around pine needles, be prepared for a slip sliding time. The slip strips on the bottom wear down extremely quick and forget about climbing up a sleep incline near camp. Other than that, I really like them for sitting around camp.
Currently using crocs. I never liked crocs because of how they look but of all the camp shoes I've tried, they work best for me. They certainly don't pack well but I can deal with that better than an ill fitting thong.
😂✌️ Yeah, nothing wrong with some good ol Crocs. These ultralight things are not for everyone. But, I like them for a limited purpose. Thanks for watching my friend. Crow✌️
i just bought a blank piece of corflute for $7, same material, same thickness. I could make 10 pairs from the piece, just cut the shape out with scissors. I could replicate the mayfly design exactly with some effort, but honestly I think I prefer to use thin shock cord and tubes for the base bit and skip the adjustable bit. Especially as I'll tie the cord to fit my foot exactly. Brilliant product, but anyone can make them for almost free.
For colder weather I wear northface thermoball which are so cozy and about the same weight as crocs but more compressible! Summer I wear water shoes. Great for Creek crossings!
I bought the Nymphs. I took them on the Pemi Loop in the white mountains. I like that they were light and packable. However, they were not good on rocks and roots . I have not used them since.
Nice review, Crow. Have to be honest, they seem a little gimmicky to me, but I don't travel the miles you do and I'm sure if I did, I would want to trim all the weight I could.
I hear ya! Yeah, time will tell if they are a long term solution. I have been using them solely for walking around camp at night. But, we will see if they last. Thanks for watching it. Crow✌️
That's so light hah. Looks handy during the Summer to breathe your feet. Sometimes I'll bring barefoot styles water shoes or Xero sandals but mostly don't bring camp shoes in nice weather. I'll bring Outdoor Research Aerogel booties in colder temps.
@@ASTHECROWFLIESHIKING I have a lot of Xero shoes. Maybe 6-7 pairs for different uses. I'll use the Colorado (discontinued) in streams or at the beach. Aqua Cloud for the camp sandals or Summer use. Not really a fan of thong style though.
Man they are pretty cool looking. I like the color way on them. I am thinking about trying These out if they have my size. Me & my family do a lot of kayak camping & when I get to camp i am usually barefooted 👣 because I have to kayak barefooted 👣 unless the camping area is not barefooted 👣 friendly because i have very very extremely wide feet 🦶. My foot outgrow shoes , socks , & boots so that is not an option for me. Good video buddy thanks you for sharing this.
I use them only when I am doing long hikes and long miles. They are good. But, they are very minimal. So, they can get your socks wet. I love them. Sometimes I use my Zero sandals when I am not doing big miles.
I’m with you on hating toe thongs! I have the Imagos but I don’t like them. I’m currently using a pair of slippers I got on an international flight for my camp shoes. Ultralight, easy to put on, and much more comfortable than the Mayflies! The price was also right; Free!
I typically hike in Vibram Five Fingers shoes, so I would bring an extra pair for camp. However, they can be a pain to try to slip on in the middle of the night when nature calls. Now for camp shoes, I'll either pack a pair of Merrell Vapor Gloves or a pair of Xero sandals (If I'm not hiking in them) Sometimes, I just go barefoot at camp
I’ve used the amago for about 3 years. They are good for around camp. Not so good for walking in rougher terrain to a nearby water source. I use them but I also have a DIY Xero shoes set of sandals.. (toe thong) but I use them if I know I’m going to do some fishing in the evening and longer walks away from camp.
Dang! Losing a croc is a bummer. Yeah, these ultralight shoes won’t work for a lot of people. I simply use them for camp, after setting everything up for the night. ✌️
@@OldBumOnABike I lost a flask of pendleton midnight when I lost the croc. Lol. Whoever found it I think was happy. Maybe there will be a scavenger hunt to find my croc. Near the stairway to heaven if interested
I never cared for flip flops. I’m a full on crocs guy. I’ll sacrifice the weight and bulk for them. My wife wears sandals as camp shoes. She loves them. They’re pretty lightweight and packable. I don’t care for sandals either 😂
Nothing wrong with some crocs. I have actually used them one time l, when I had them for camp shoes as emergency hiking shoes…after my hiking shoes fell apart. Thanks for watching it my friend. ✌️
Yeah, they aren’t for everyone. I only use them after I have set up camp and just walking around at night or by the fire. But, they work fine for me. Thanks for watching it. Crow✌️
Don't laugh...they are thongs 😂😂. That's what we call them here, not flip flops. I use them at camp but its convenient as they are our everyday footwear here. I'll check these things out though 👍
😂 Yeah, these things are not for everyone. But, I use them simply at camp after I have everything set up. Just to talk around and not put my hiking shoes back on. I actually like them. ✌️
