Yes! Bingo! I’ve been saying this for 30 yrs (I’m almost 73 and have experienced loss of many loved ones, trauma and heartache at times .....plus other stuff, ie: chaos, confusion, doubt, stress, divorce after 7 yrs., raising my girls alone, etc....). I truly believe little children should be taught to be mindful...to be aware of their feelings....to be aware that the feelings and thoughts are not who they are, the feelings and thoughts just come and go. I never remarried. Worked hard. Also helped raise my 6 grandchildren. It’s life. It’s what I experienced. My ex was mentally ill (diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar...and he did drugs and drank). I was 22, had one child and had to deal with mental illness. I realized I was trying to help him...I felt bad for him....but after taking him back 3 times...I split from him. He just would stop taking his meds and start drinking. I read way too many fairy tale books, watched too many Father Knows Best shows, I think. No brothers, no sisters..but a great dog and a cat. I love animals better than humans....really. My dad died when he was 42 and I was 16 (heart disease) and my mother seemed to go off the deep end. She was very strong but when my dad passed suddenly (he wouldn’t let drs tell us how bad his heart was we found out afterward). My youngest daughter passed away at 37 yrs old (almost 9 yrs ago after the new year...Jan 5, 2012). That also was unexpected and sudden. I almost broke apart, I think. But I had to stay here for my older daughter and all my grandchildren. There’s more....but I think I’ve rambled enough. But I love Miyim. I talk fast too, I think...to get my point across. Grandkids are all adults now. Gratitude helped me heal. I’m so thankful I got to share my life with all my loved ones...miss them...but I have such great memories. And love is eternal. But I do think that children need to know about life...and that everything comes and goes. Even people. Just like our moods and our feelings. If I had known that I probably wouldn’t have spent half my kindergarten year back in the cloakroom alone...wishing I could go home where I felt safe and cozy. Crazy kids screaming and being obnoxious and I hated it. Teachers couldn’t get me out. Finally my mom yelled at me (they told her I wasn’t interacting with anyone). I was afraid when my mom yelled. I think I could have used some therapy...but back then...no one did that. I made it thru...and I’m still here. Go figure, and now there’s a pandemic! Well....this is life. I always remind myself of that. It’s just life. Right now. This too shall pass. And....I’m also allergic to alcohol beverages. I found out about 20;yrs ago. Itching, red face, hives, etc... too bad. Or maybe not.😆 Enjoyed your talk with Mayim. 👍🥰

We always think that everything happens to us only but that isn't true. Love happens and then out of nowhere tragedy and sadness creep in. I have had OCD severely all my life. My life was unbearable. I finally found help but it was almost too late. I am better but the OCD is always ready to appear when the situation brings it out. I feel your pain and please know so many people think they are invincible and they find out the opposite. Take care of yourself and try to remember you are not alone.

Hugs to you. This is why safe spaces to feel heard are so needed. You don’t need anyone’s permission for your experience to be 100% valid. It sounds like your epigenetics are pretty loaded for mental health diagnoses so just make sure you’re not overlooking that in your healing journey.

I feel like Dr. Bialik is speaking my language. I am a 48 year old Jewish woman who is married to her boyfriend since I was 15. Most of my friends are male. I am a fast thinker and fast talker who struggles to find others like myself. I am convinced if I lived in LA I would have personally connected with Dr. Bialik. Thank you for your in-depth interviews.

It is so interesting to listen to Mayim! I am kind of on the other side of the spectrum my granddad fought as a German submarine captain in the second world war and my grandparents were both Nazis. My parents and grandparents also didn’t talk about feelings my mom was born at the end of the war. She was traumatized like most people living at that time. And that carried on into the third generation the grandchildren of the war. As long as I can remember my heart beat for minorities no matter if they were black or Jews or whatever and I seriously don’t know where that comes from I was not raised that way. So thank you for the interview I could relate in so many ways!

So what I look for in a friend and or partner is intelligence, compassion and a great sense of humour. Though I wouldn’t sit and watch much sport with Mayim, I’d love to debate and joke with her. I am one of those that “broke the mould” and I have met very few people that are part of my set. Weird how you can think that you would be friends with someone when you only have heard some of their life via interviews and seeing some of her channel, and yet I do. That is how relatable I find Mayim.

Canada does have 1 year maternity leave, but it didn’t happen without a fight , and it was the Postal Union C.U.P.W that fought for it, but it evolved from a few months to now 12 months and more if you need to leave for health reasons! Parents are able to also get a leave for adopting! 🇨🇦
@laraantipova389
@laraantipova389 3 года назад
I think America has 6 weeks maternity leave with pay, and you lose your sick leave and personal days. My husband gets 7 weeks paid leave each year, and I have thought that it should apply across the board for all Americans. That was parents could stack 14 weeks (mom 7, dad 7). I am subbing over the summer for another teacher whose mom had a stroke and needs to go to physical therapy 2X per week but also needs to work this summer. Taking care of babies is hard, but caring for a sick elderly family member is even harder in my humble opinion.

@@browneyedgirl4637 That’s a very admirable thing to do. I just think for most people that go through a divorce they do not want to be with each other for holidays and other major events. It kind of sounds like you both could just live as roommates. I am not trying to put you down at all. I respect what you are saying, but I do think once you have divorced a partner holding that person accountable for relationships is kind of unrealistic. If it is working for you that’s fantastic.

I studied to be a Montessori Teacher in London 40 years ago and knew I didn''t want children until child psychology became mainstream and compulsory for would be parents. Can''t believe it has taken forty years for people to realise we need a different type of education. I think the idea Montessori had was in order to have a well rounded individual we need to take a holistic approach. You have to give kids more than just info for passing exams. Teach them about emotions and feelings and how to express themselves. Parents still saying there are no books on how to be a parent well I would say yes there are but most parents don''t want to be bothered and think they can do it cos others can do it and because their parents could do it. They don''t want to put in the time. They want it all and you can''t have it all. Kids need their parents so cut back on spending and invest in your most precious thing; your kids.
