The director of Mayo Clinic's COVID Activity Rehabilitation Program says they’re seeing a decrease in Long COVID cases, likely due to variant changes and the effectiveness of vaccines. Dr. Greg Vanichkachorn describes Long COVID as a group of symptoms that linger longer than the normal COVID recovery period. He says fatigue and physical complaints decrease but patients have lingering cognitive effects like brain fog.
Unfortunately, Dr. Vanichkachorn says patients can still face stigma for the condition and he says some clinicians also do when they deliver such a diagnosis. In order to reach everyone, clinicians are increasing efforts to inform diverse populations, including hourly workers and farmers who may be coping in silence.
Hosts Mark Masselli and Margaret Flinter also learn how olfactory retraining and cognitive behavioral therapy are encouraged for Long COVID patients.
Conversations on Health Care features in-depth discussions on health policy and innovation with industry newsmakers from around the globe. www.chcradio.com

Totally agree 💯 . I also see lots of videos about this but no info about how to contact someone for consultation and treatment.

I have long covid. I lost my job and can't do anything but walk and talk. I can't swim run or exercise. I've had it since 2019. It's terrible and sad. I was in perfect condition before and now my life is like living in hell everyday.

Same here. Check out the info on RU-vid channels by Dr. Paul Anderson and Dr. Tina Peers. I found their advice was very helpful and I am finally starting to make some progress after 18 months of hell.

As someone with LC I find this to be a very disturbing interview. This doctor really does not fully grasp LC and certainly not the severe end of the spectrum. First of all he says that it lasts for weeks or months. Many of us have been sick for YEARS now after a mild infection, surely he knows this? He basically just dismissed all of us who have been sick for YEARS. Around 50% have developed ME/CFS which this doctor seems pretty clueless about. First he keeps calling it chronic fatigue. CF is simply a symptom of many different illnesses that is not remotely the same as the disease of ME/CFS where the cardinal symptom is Post-exertional malaise (PEM) which is not simply another term for chronic fatigue, it is a totally different phenomenon that involves a wide variety of symptoms. Also PEM is not part of POTS that is a different illness entirely that is also highly prevalent in LC. Next he says the pandemic is in the past!!! Has he not seen the news? There is a surge happening right now in many countries. No one can predict how bad it will be. We are still very much in a pandemic the WHO only said that we are no longer in the emergency phase they didn't say the pandemic was over. I couldn't finish watching this interview when the doctor starts rambling on about well whether you think this is or isn't in the mind and regardless we treat it the same. TERRIBLE MESSAGING!!! ME/CFS patients have been screaming at the medical profession for decades saying that treatments for anxiety and depression DO NOT DO ANYTHING FOR PEM. And to even suggest that it could be all in the mind after the thousands of papers that have been published showing biological abnormalities is outrageous! Total gaslighting!! I guess I shouldn't be surprised as the MAYO clinic has had a terrible reputation for accepting post-viral illness as a real disease. This doctor also can't seem to let go of the idea that exercise is BAD for some people. It is so ingrained in him that surely some form of exercise is possible. He just can't wrap his brain around the possibility that for some of us it isn't. If I was even to try recumbent exercise I would be knocked down for weeks. I really wish he could experience PEM so that it finally sinks into his brain. Imagine if just walking for 5 minutes your body felt severely poisoned for days or weeks leaving you barely able to move. For those who are bedbound it could simply take just rolling over in bed to trigger PEM. If the most trivial daily activities cause PEM then clearly exercise is out of the question. Even tiny resistance exercises can cause severe PEM. I suggest this doctor read the recent paper 'Long-term symptom severity and clinical biomarkers in post-COVID-19/chronic fatigue syndrome: results from a prospective observational cohort' so he can better understand the different cohorts and that some of us just do not recover and we are more severe. Maybe he is only seeing mild patients who can make it to appointments?? And before the anti-vax lunatics bust in with their nonsense millions of us got LC early in 2020 long before the vax was even available, LIKE A WHOLE YEAR BEFORE, so don't waste your breath saying its the jab!!

Wow, your writing is excellent, you are probably around 60% on cfs/me scale you will be fine, just ajuste the activites, eat well, sleep and don't worry so much, let the body heal it self to some degree of course. Don't chase your old self, grow from where you are. It's just a body responce. I know what I am talking about From 20% to 98% basicly I am 100% but the body don't let me run and climb mounts, well I walk but some people relase even that so "trancilo". With Love, Mike

Wildgardens!!! BEST COMMENT!!!!! Well done!!! 1.3K views and only 17 comments. Your comment was awesome and I am so proud of you! I've had longcovid 3 and a half years now...Before vaccines. Thank you for your comment. I thought my head was gonna explode listening to this guy. He's clueless. My life will never be the same. And I've lost ALOT of me. My 3 daughters are trying to help. They feel sorry for me....and should. I'm trying to keep going and have a life. But, I miss my old life. My husband of 40yrs is trying so hard to help me. I love him so. I have not tasted or smelled anything for 3 and a half years...can't exercise, EVERYTHING must be written down, or whoosshhh it's gone. Just like dementia. Bills, my house, my grandchildren...everything must be planned out....its exhausting!!!! You hang in there. Your comment was on point and brilliant!!! I'm so thankful to you!!! I so hope you find relief and healing! And know I am thinking of you, EVERY DAY!!!!!

@@mihakavcic7237 Don’t ever tell someone with LC/ME where they are on any scale. You don’t know anything about my illness or all the abnormalities on my blood tests. I have been totally housebound for 3.5 years, now require a wheelchair on the rare occasions I leave my home which is just for medical appointments and I am unable to work, so no Im not at 60%. Also don’t spout useless toxic positivity nonsense to someone suffering from a severe disease! Telling someone with LC/ME to do basic lifestyle nonsense and “not to worry you will be fine” is patronising, gaslighting bullshit. I am not fine I have lost my health, my career (which I spent years training for) and very soon all my savings will be gone and yes it is totally normal to grieve such drastic, life-altering losses. Not sure what you mean by “it’s just a body response”. It is a disease that requires urgent investment in biomedical research.

@@kellyberry4173 Thanks so much for your lovely comment! Im so glad it wasn't just me that found this interview infuriating!! I had to give up listening to him as it was so triggering!! I know what you mean about your head about to explode lol, I felt exactly the same - arghhh! I can't believe doctors are saying this crap at this point in the pandemic. Im sorry to hear you are also suffering this nightmare! I have been totally housebound for 3.5 years now so I was also a first waver. Gosh not being able to taste and smell for this long sounds awful, Im so sorry :( That is good you have a supportive family though this is such a tough thing to go through and so much to grieve. I hope there are some medical breakthroughs soon which will help us get our lives back! Sending big hugs! x

I got diagnosed with covid September 1, 2023. It's now March 27, 2024, and I wake up exhausted like I had the longest day of my life while i was sleeping. I feel like i have dementia, i can't remember words, names, appointments, things i got done. I am disgusted by a huge amount of food. Just the thought of them makes me nauseous so that has made me eat much less than normal. I already have POTS and chronic pain and mental illness, so this just escalated symptoms

I’m so glad to have stumbled on to your post! I’ve had the same aversion to foods since Feb! It started with hamburger. I suddenly couldn’t stand the thought of hamburger. Now it’s all kinds of food. Foods I loved, now make me nauseous. I thought I was nuts.

I was an Air Force officer and a PT demon before this illness. This doctor’s lack of awareness about the challenges and complexities related to physical activity in these patients is somewhat comical. His assigned approach to activity is incredibly ignorant. He is applying his own ivory tower experiences to this patient population. This guy needs to study under David Putrino or Ilene Ruhoy, David Kaufman, etc.

I never got the vaccine, developed long covid after a mild infection. Few days of high fever, headache and a sore throat. Other symptoms went away in few weeks, but the sore throat lasted for 8 months. Now it's constant nerve pain all over my body, twitching, headaches and dizziness. I know a lot of people who developed very bad, lingering symptoms from the vaccine, but the vaccine is definitely not the reason in every case.

This is the most antiquated information. All of the frill in these pretentious outfits, yet, no actual grasp of the disease processes. Mount Sinai is so much further ahead of Mayo.
