I don't know why, I never heard this song as a kid. But some how it reminds me of my childhood, in the sense of being free of addictions and troubles and having my parents round to protect me from the bad things in the world. Though I didn't know this song "back in the day" its still pretty damn powerful what it can invoke in me after this time. The power of true art. Timeless.
I think Billy Corgan is one of the most underated song writers of the past 50 years. Maybe not the most talented singer but I struggle to think of many bands that have songs of the lyrical beauty of Smashing Pumpkins.
I remember listening to this song on repeat sitting in a hammock watching a heavy rain come down in Australia...I don't know why, but it was such a perfectly blissful moment..
This is their best album by far. Every song is deeply meaningful. This album helped me through a major depression in my life and through a terribly abusive relationship. Thanks Billy.
billy sounds good either live or on their albums. he is just a unique person. it's awesome that they come back this year. 07-07-07 can't wait. yeah melissa was hole's bass player and played for d'arcy with the pumpkins.
Siamese Dream is simply one of the greatest Albums ever...and forever. And this Song and Today are the masterpieces of Billy. ...I just want to be me...and when i can I will... quite depressing to realize that there won´t be any better Music for a very long time...if ever
This song, Today, Porcelina of The Vast Oceans, ... You can't say just two, the full Siamese Dream and MCIS are the fucking best of Smashing Pumpkins and the fucking best of all time
This video is so awesome, if for nothing else the quiet intro played to rose colored lights. Then at the point the tension builds and then releases at :57 when the white lights converge on the stage.
Dear Smashing Pumpkins... you were the lyrical poet laureates of our broken generation.... 90's forever and for ever. I wish i could close my eyes and go back. You always seemed more curious, more willing to explore the ambiguous beauty that is found, ironically, in the saddest moments of life. Your sound was so raw and tortured yet so utterly compelling and entrancing.... and your bleak, cold depiction of life may have been a sinister one, but not one that was ugly or alienating. Instead, we just sank into it and luxuriated in the beauty and comfort that we sooo desperately needed as we were growing up, trying to navigate through the disturbing years of our adolescence.... thank you. You are forever tattooed across my heart
Thank God I didn't get those matching tatoos of SP when I got married! I unfortunately was young and dumb, I also played bass, a guy at the bus stop introduced me to my now EX-ASSHOLE cuz he loved the pumpkins as well as I, and he was just a "Bullshit Faker." He even played the legal system and got SOLE CUSTODY OF OUR DAUGHTERS! The fucker...
I know they're back together, but there's something about seeing them perform this when they were on the verge of breaking up in 2000. It's like the perfect song to represent their tumultuous history as bandmates and also the beautiful music that they made together and how they were on top of the world when this song came out.
Quite possibly the greatest performance in the history of ever. It amazes me that Billy is a master, world class singer, song -writer, and guitarist all in one. my heart forever beats SP!!!
The first minute of this video almost gives me chills. The two guitars play separate but complimenting parts and then come together for the gloriously crushing heavy part with the those white lights descending to the stage.
Saw this tour. Jesus, it was incredbile. They closed with this one, and it just killed me. I doubt I'll ever have an experience that visceral again. The Pumpkins will always rule in my book.
For the past 5 years i've been obsessed with Muse.Seen them about 30 times and travelled overseas for em. but watching this reminds me even Muse will never come close to replacing Pumpkins as love of my life.
Incredible how many people have commented how this song brings them back to a certain point of their life. Same here. Same with this whole album, if there was a "10 albums you could bring with you to an island" list, Siamese Dream is on that list.
the pumpkins always suceed in making songs that seem like my mind is writing the lyrics and my heart is making the music...and about 10-15 of their songs make the soundtrack of my inrtospective..
I can't watch another advert, I just can't do it, I want to listen to music not hear some yam face yammin it up about some crap I don't want , youtube is now adverttube, I'm leaving
Billy is the reason I play guitar.I remember being blown away when I heard Gish. Then Siamese Dream came out and I did'nt leave my room until I could play the whole damn thing. This song uses two different tunings on the guitar and can be tricky.Good audio, and overall is good performance.Thx for up-ing this.
It's like taking a cruise through your thoughts and emotions without really grasping anything along the way. thats how i feel when i hear this song. pretty awesome feeling :)
did i just have a flashback....i think so!!!! thx for sharing this vid - it bring too many great memories!!! Soma and Mayonaise are the 2 best song they'd ever made!! Denmark -c.frei
..this song brings happy tears to my eyes everytime i hear it.. its so good it MUST be a soundtrack of a movie sometime. its sad to have such a beatiful song and not played to its full potential..viva pumpkins
The first song i hear was " tonight tonight " and for being honest it doesn't impressed me to much, but then so many years after, i heard this... and i fall in love immediately. This is the best song ever, and that song is also the reason why Smashing Pumpkins is my favorite band now. Love them so much.
Probably the best there is. I still get goosbumps during the song, despite the fakt that I've been listening to that song for more than 10 years or something. Just extremely awesome.
@JeffroTV I'm right there with you. Used to see so many great live bands....Sonic Youth, Bad Brains, Smashing Pumpkins, Jane's Addiction, the Pixies, Nirvana, et al. It's sad that my kids won't know the anticipation waiting for a concert, waiting for a CD to release, the energy of live shows, etc.
People! This's the greatest song cause has it all, starts slow in a fine nice sound of 2 mellow guitars, gets up on distortion and then it comes the greatest feel of solo guitar ever, it is not that extended solo but has the power, then it comes down again and back to power and down again, has all the perfect parts, love pumpkins and LOVE THAT BASS PLAYER, if she can hear me, I will leave anything to have you once, you are HOT
music & this song is superb it is easily carried away by emotions it's great! thank you to the person who invited me and I saw this video on his page good weekend Greetings from FRANCE SYL
I went to the concert in Glasgow, Tuesday night....I can confirm that they will sing this song to your ears :) I cried...lol Amazing gig, one of the best I've seen..would've paid £100 :o)
I remember seeing them in Nagoya on this leg of their tour. Great show. Lots of people were happy Jimmy was back. One advantage of seeing bands in Japan: Great bands play smaller, more intimate venues. You can get closer.
I don't care if Corgan is touring with new faces and doing a Gish Tour or whatever... in my opinion, this was the final incarnation of the Smashing Pumpkins.
