The right things to do is the support of Israel. As a Muslim I would like to add that Muslims have signed the petition for her to go . It’s wildly circulated in our communities. As a Native American who disagrees with the Palestinian Holocaust, she gained my respect for not showing up to an event that celebrates the genocide of Palestinians.
I think a double standard is in place, and please point out my error in logic. After the attrocities of Oct. 7th thousands took to the streets supporting Palestine. As a country we were told there's a big distinction between supporting palestine and supporting Hamas. Now the Mayor without acknowledging the history of the Menorah, centuries old has decided that the Jews in Calgary, throughout Canada have no right to the same distinction given pro Palestinians. Check the election results, they are easy enough to find. This thing won a majority in every single riding in the city. It was selected not elected. Machines counted the votes. Mayor Gondek gave a reasoned and articulate explanation of why she didn't support using City Hall as a forum for turning what was supposed to be a celebration of faith into a political event. I'm sure she knew that there would be many who would castigate her for not choosing sides in a political way and instead insisting on supporting the people of both Jewish and Muslim faith. She has already and repeatedly condemned Hamas for being a terrorist and murderously brutal political organization. She made it clear that in not showing political favor for the State of Israel or Hamas, she was still very much in support of the people caught up in this tragic conflict. I think she did the right thing.
Does she have anything to say about the 40,000 women and children that Israel has killed and are still killing in Gaza? And they are starving the ones that are still alive! For becoming the first female mayor in the city of Calgary's history, she sure has made a sad start for women.
