Hey wanted to say thanks for your efforts in making these videos. I have 2k on a low mileage Fusion motor, runs great, strong, a vast improvement. Mileage is less than hoped for 25 - 35 with winter blend fuel, but definitely more fun. Thanks again to you and others(videos) for the confidence to do this.
We're going to attempt this swap but on a '08 Mazda5 Auto(the minivan). Some guys said the Mazda5 is basically a Mazda3 with sliding doors. Thank you for the info and detailed descriptions and references
Hey when you did the engine swap and did everything. Did it run a bit rough in the beginning? Also did you have to run it 200 miles for the ecu to relearn itself?
@@mainboss2253 do you have a check engine light and fault codes? If so, that should lead to something. If not, I would check basics like timing, vacuum leaks, connections etc…

I blew the motor in my 2006 2.3l mazda 3 and just want to be certain that a 2013-2016 2.5l fusion motor will work so I thought I would ask here. I am aware of the larger vct solenoid on later models but am I ok to look at 2.5l ford duratec motors all the way to 2016? Or do I need to stick with 2010-2012?
All the way to at least 2018 maybe '19 will work to my knowledge. I put a 2015 Fusion in my 04 Mazda 3 with the first swap I did. Just had to swap the necessary parts to make it work.
Do you happen to know if this can be done to 2.0 mazda 3 2007? Could you please tell me which components from my stock 2.0 I would have to use? I assume oil pan, timing cover, those tube with old style clamps and...? Vvt solenoid? What about that intake Because I didn't quite get you There? Than you in advance for help. Much appreciated.
I’m doing a swap on my mazda 6 06 but I’m doing a Mzr 2.5 swap instead of a ford one. Will the swap be a direct swap since it’s the Mzr ? Or what will I need to change?
Don’t know. Just compare them on a stand and swap what needs to be swapped. Guessing a lot of the things in these videos will apply, especially the intake difference. The long block is the same whether Mzr or Ford.

Put a header on it 2.5 mandrel bent exhaust no cat all the way out the back no ac completely remove it it's belt and everything to do with it trash the entire intake tubing setup get a cold air and a 3inch k&n airfilter and get it to land where the fog light hole is and remove the fog light but before putting it in pull the intake manifold and very thoroughly clean it out with 2+2 carb cleaner very very good then brake them little flaps off that metal bar in each intake runner hole pull the throttle body and clean that bad boy till it looks like new on both sides bolt it back on the intake and the intake back on the car hook everything back up with the cold air intake new coilpacks and e3 sparkplug an the final touch mod the crank sensor it is adjustable adjust till you hear a small increase in idle if you hear a ticking slide it back some the opposite direction till it goes away it gives it a small kick to it all and it's pretty quick 3rd 4th gear are pretty wicked 1st is a tire burner and that an auto it holds together for about a yr and a half but the trans don't like that kinda power so much and the tqconverter bolts will back off randomly nomatter what you use on them... it will snap axles motor mounts I recommend aftermarket I could only find for the pass side though that's the motor side I couldn't find the other side wich is the transmission upper mount thats what holds all the weight of the motor and trans them 2 specific mounts a 3rd is in the rear of the trans i have used stock I'm on my 2nd 1 in 4 yrs but I run it from time to time she's kinda fast especially once you start taking seats out and lower it and all that wich I did
Ok so I'm mid way through this and I don't have that intake adapter plate so I thought I'd just join the form page and see your modified 2.5 intake. My factory 2.3 has butterflies in the ports, as well as the throttle body bolt patter is way different. How do I fix this ? Mazda is 2007 mazda 6 (2.3 ) Motor is a 2011 Ford fusion.
You can get a adapter plate on Ebay for $56.19. This is the route I would go. As far as I know. I haven’t seen that car in a couple of years. I work at a new shop. There is no reason it shouldn’t hold up. The one I installed was metal. I would go that route again if I was doing this swap for sure. Worked great and ran great.
@@mainboss2253 not my experience. I’ve done the 2.5 fusion intake and the 2.3 OEM intake with the adapter plate. The latter actually seemed to run with a little more power than the other.
The fusion engine you use out of what year ford is it please. Trying to do a 2007 Mazda 6 swap so what years ford fusion will fit the 2007 Mazda 6? Thx
Actually the 2.3 isn't junk there's many things you can do with that motor and 3rd gear will run down a 2016 5.0 mustang with all 3 of my kids eyes popping out there heads saying some shit lemme tell you and we're a family of gear heads and musicians that 5.0 had 1 person.... that's not doing so well there yeah he left me sitting then I ran him down and we did it multiple times run after run after run same thing except once i freid the TCM... nothin new that happens alot when you have heavy foot I highly recommend one but I have no ac and all kinds of stuff done I used to be a mustang nut and before that a 80s turbododge nut so I've had some very fast toys this is reliable
You can do 2.3’s or 2.5’s out of Mazda that aren’t skyactiv or 2.5 Fords that are naturally aspirated up through like 2017ish. You’ll have to do required parts swaps or modifications based on what you use per my 6 videos or what you see on Mazda 3 forum. Hit the links in my description.
Would the bellhousing line up for a 5spd mt to a 2006-2012 fusion? Was going to use a 14 fusion 2.5 but was informed the bellhousing bolts wouldnt line up, and i was suspicious because i hadnt seen this problem for anyone on the forums, wondering if the 14 changed.
Should line up on any 2.5. I did a personal swap on my mt 2004 mazda 3 with a 2015 fusion automatic engine with no issues. Don't know where that info came from. Got to make sure you install a new pilot bearing into crankshaft of new 2.5 auto engine you use.
Transmission choice is up to what you prefer. Skyactiv are direct injection so the head is different. Not sure about the short block, but believe they have different compression ratio. Basically this works for the regular port fuel injected 2.0 and 2.3 cars to use a 2.5 port injected engine in it's place. I would check out Mazda 3 forum and other internet sources to get a definitive on where the skyactiv would fit in all of this. As far as swapping a later skyactiv drivetrain into a older Mazda 3, that would be a upgrade. I'm sure someone has done it which would involve computer and harness swap too as well as other mods or parts from the donor car.
Hello. I have a 2010 Mazda 3 S 2.5L mated to a 2002-2008 Mazda 6 transmission that utilizes the dog bone rear strut torque mount but the part that attaches to the subframe bracing is for a non-dogbone mount since it's a 2010 Mazda 3, is there anyway to securely fasten the two connecting points together? The strut torque mount that is designed for a Mazda 3 (non dog bone) transmission cant be attached. Any input would be greatly appreciated as the transmission is jerking when driving.
Just another question, I pulled a 2.3 out of an '07 Mazda 6 replaced it with a 2011 Ford fusion 2.5. I paid close attention to the details I ordered. That adapter plate. Only thing I have a question about is I could not change out the VVT cam solenoid because it was completely different as far as heights related and everything else. And I didn't want to fool with rednecking that gasket that was a different size. That being said, I did reuse the 2.5 valve cover. There is a extra sensor of some sort dead center in the middle of this head that the 2.3 did not have. Will this run without it or will this cause an issue?
I have a 2011 Ford Fusion with 2.5L and a 6speed manual. I'm trying to find an LSD for my fusion but I heard that the Speed3 transmission that has an OEM LSD installed can be bolt-on for my 2.5L Duratec.
It can bolt up to the block. People put 2.5 Fusion engine short blocks in speed3's. Don't know about the rest of the bolt up as far as mounts, axles etc. I'm sure you can get facts on a internet search.
So I have a 2006 Mazda 5 (almost identical to a 3) that has a 2.3 and manual trans. I’m going to 2.5 swap it, is there a preferred year fusion to get the 2.5 from?
The lower the miles the better regardless of year. You do not have to mess with the intake cam because yours is 2006. Your swap will be the same as these videos. Check the videos as I can't recall now, but older Fusion 2.5's allow for straight valve cover swap because of the same size VVT solenoid. The newer Fusion engines require that the seal be swapped like I did in one of the videos. Everything else requires the same part swaps no matter what.
hey ik this is like 2 yrs late but my mazda 3 is at 186k hoping it will make it to 190k before i replace the motor but would this be more expensive in terms of labor? how long did it take? and how long would it take to replace it with a mazda motor? thanks sm!
Not much more labor intensive than a Mazda motor. The Ford 2.5's are substantially cheaper and can be found with low miles over Mazda engines. If you have all the needed stuff and equipment, it could probably be done over a weekend or so. This Mazda 6 swap took a few days at work, but I also worked on other things while I did this.
I'm 4 days into the swap on a 2006 and already have the 2.5 in just gotta finish connecting the wiring harness. Doing all the work myself so no it's not terrible. Hardest part so far was the harmonic balancer but that's because I had a lot of trouble finding info on the timing

Man, so far your videos have been the most helpful that I found. I’m currently in the process of swapping a 2.5 in my ‘06 Mazda5. Not gonna lie, I don’t have much mechanical experience & really could use some help with how to get the 2.3 out. Tried to look for you post on the forums but not having much luck. I don't pull the engine out as a unit. I use the car like an engine stand. I pull the intake, exhaust manifold, and accessories off and swing things out of the way or completely remove them and basically pull the long block out alone like the video when it is on the stand. That is what I finally pull out. If it is a manual I pull it out the top with the trans connected. Did that on a Mazda 3.

i already plan to drop a 14 fusion 2.5 and have most of what i need to make a proper healthy build and was interested to know if if thats a worthy swap or future upgrade
@@addisonmatheny4962 could be if you start early and work late and have steps planned out perfectly and it goes smoothly. Biggest thing is removing parts from old engine and swapping them, especially the ones that have rtv sealant. Make sure them and the block are completely clean and dry and free from grease and oil. You don't want to have to reseal them later in the car.
Yes, but you will have to do modifications to hook things up and some things to keep check engine light off. Running an adapter plate and old intake works great though. See other videos of series. See my posts on Mazda3 forum that I have linked in video description. Mine was a 2004 Mazda so it might be a little different on a 2006.
@@marcinka5865 yes. I did this in the video on the Mazda 6. Look through. I used an adapter plate I bought on EBay. Some guys use it straight and put a lot of RTV to seal it. You risk sucking it into the engine. See the videos and go to the links in description for Mazda3 forum threads. You find out all you need to run either manifold. I personally think the 2.3 intake setup ran better than the 2.5 intake setup.

Guys that own speed 3 Mazdas have swapped the 2.5 short block into these and retained everything else on the 2.3 to make it work. There is a 2.5 swap group on Facebook as well as a turbo Mazda 3 group and they have members that have done it and can give the specifics.
I hear you. Very true. I should have said that the engines have a flawed design that doesn't allow for good lubrication resulting in premature catastrophic failure. The 2.5 has an improved design. Some go a lot longer, but the fact that there are a ton of videos and forum post about the weakness of the 2.3 prove the design is "junk". My own experience with these vehicles leaves the "junk" comment in my brain. 190K. Very fortunate for sure. Always a diamond in the rough.
If you know anything about mazda 2.3s there pretty much junk. The ford version is much better. My mazda only made 194k miles being driven a teenager hurdurrrr
196 for mine. I've only had it like a month and could hear the engine failing from week two (not even being rough on it so I think the seller knew it was on its way out)

@@n0x3n Yeah, its basically just swapping inside the same engine family. I've done 2 speeds now. And 1 2.3 mazda 3. Speeds take a lot more work with opening the engine, swapping over all the speed parts, gapping the rings, and then getting a re-map done.
