Irvin, 1,000 thank you's. I had a similar problem and assumed a bad starter. Watching many videos on the starter replacement trouble I was headed for, I tried your solution, a simple connection problem. Low and behold, that's exactly what it was. A very simple and inexpensive fix. Thank you for your guidance in saving me a lot of money! Keep up the good work. Bless you.
Thanks Greg for you kind words and for watching the entire thing. The car now has close to 190k miles the engine has been solid but the transmission had to be replaced once (could have been prevented) my only maintenance to anyone reading and with this type of car is to check their transmission fluid to make sure that it's is not dark in color or smell burnt. Apparently the fluid replacement cycle needs to be more frequent compared to other models. (Refer to your users manual on recommend intervals and you will see) no need to concern anyone just check and make sure that it's not burnt and your good to go. If it is burnt I would recommend that you ask a transmission place what to do(sometimes adding all new fluid can be harmful to the transmission seals so they sometimes will mix the fluid incrementally).. Thanks to all for your support and stay blessed.
My starter went bad, after installing a new one car doesn’t start. There is no current on the plate where this clip connects. This must be this clip for sure? Also is there a way to clean it?
Bro, you are Awesome. I watched the Whole video just to see. Earlier this week, my Daughter got stuck and all we did after a few steps was Tap the relay and turn the key, it started. Today, I find out she never took the car in to get checked, so we followed the steps from the other day and Nothing. I checked the car's heater as a Backup, pulled the Starter Relay, made a small Jumper, touched the 30 & 87 slots (I believe), the Starter WORKED; The click-spark Freaked me out because I've been Shocked before, so I did it a few more times... Perfect. I only had sandpaper, scratched up those two blades, cleaned them with my shirt, did Not have Dielectric Grease, so just Hoped for the Best, plugged it in and Boom 💥 The car STARTS 😎👍🏻
Hey Julz, thanks for sharing your story. I can picture the whole story. Working on cars can sometimes turn into a mini adventure trying to find out what is wrong. I'm glad it worked your you. It's been a while since I posted this video the Mazda continues to work fine and is nearing 200k miles. The only thing I recommend is to check the trans fluid if it's an automatic since they recommend replacing more often for the type of transmission. Other than that best wishes/ luck.
13:28 Hey Irvin, I'm Paolo from the Philippines and an hour ago my car wouldn't start after buying something from a store on the side of the road. It's 2am here in Manila so I cant have a mechanic help me out. I searched youtube, saw your video and now im home safe. Thanks a lot sir!
When u said replace the connector did u cut the wire and splice together or is the connector and whole line replaced? My son's car is having starting issues
My niece had this same problem on her Mazda 3. I ended up trailering it home to look at and was able to start it and drive it off the trailer. I found that this terminal was corroded so I cleaned and greased it. Your video makes me feel like this was the issue. Thanks, good video, keep up the hard work.
@speedracer175 I think hers was on the front side of the block but behind the exhaust. It wasn't too bad to get to. But that was several years ago, so I might not be remembering it correctly. She doesn't have that car anymore and I don't remember what year it was or what engine it had. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Thats the connection to the starter solenoid. Its a key controlled circuit. Its 12V when live. Sand it and the starter connection. I have had this issue on other vehicles, its just the way it is with wiring exposed to the elements. You could always solder and heat shrink it, then never have to worry again, lol
Thanks for the video, it exactly what I’m experiencing, I shaked the connector and the starter goes. Next step, I will check the corrosion around it, very helpful 🙏
@@irvininz1i jumped the starter relay and nothing happened. I connected a wire from 12v battery to the spade connector on the starter, and the starter turned on.
I took it to the dealer. Spent on a tow. They said I needed two new keys programmed. Lol. They don’t know what they’re doing. At least I got a 2020 Mazda 3 for the weekend.
Awesome. My nephews Mazda 3 wouldn't crank or start. Power is good to the relay, battery full, but no luck. Used your trick, thank you and scanner danner who I watch BTW, to verify the starter is good, checked the clutch swotch behind tthe peddle and sure enough, if I press it with my finger and start the car it starts. My nephew already got a new starter, ypld him take it back and buy the switch from the dealer, no ome else has the side mounted one, for $31.
I had the same problem. Turned out to be flooded caused by the driver (me) when I climbed in. The best way to clear a flooded intake is to push the pedal to the floor and crank it until it starts. May not work for others, but it did for me.
Just a note, if you're doing some of these troubleshooting tips and your car is a manual, please make sure the car is in neutral so you don't kill yourself.
At first it was blinking the lock key when trying to start, I made a reset and bypass the immobiliser key. From there it will not start. The coil will be too hot will wait for 15 minutes and it will start as if there was no problem at, so I think the cable connecting to the coil is rusty, will have to make a test and see if its the rust.
Thanks for this video. I switched the relay and it started. I ordered 2 relays on Amazon and just changed them both and saved the old one that still works. Thanks a lot.
@cbreezy1322 thanks for checking the video. I'm glad that it was helpful. Quick comment to anyone still checking the video. If you would like to save some money and have some time to spare going to a junkyard might be an option. You can get a handful of relays for a cheap price and just check them out when you get home, Often times it's better to get brand name parts even if they are used. Example: two used Denso parts are better than one brand new aftermarket part but that's just a preference. While you are at the junk yard you can also get a few extra lightbulbs for the taillights. The reason I recommend this is because I see it as cheap insurance. Just check the price list of the items you would like. If the bulbs and relays cost a dollar each I would go for it since inflation has caused the prices of even aftermarket parts to be elevated.
Thanks so much for posting this video. I ran into the same issue with the my Mazda 3 after replacing the clutch. I was trying to figure what it was that I put back together wrong. Then I found your video and was able to do some quick and targeted troubleshooting. Sure enough, it was the same connector on the starter that was corroded and made poor contact after being disconnected and reconnected during the clutch job. Cleaning it fixed the problem.
Gracias pase mucho tiempo buscando una explicación para el problema y no la encontré en ningún lugar en español y al final di con tu vídeo y estoy muy agradecido muchas gracias
My Mazda Tribute, 2003, 4 cylinder won't crank, start or anything at all no engine check! It all started by cutting off while driving. It could crank but not start, now can't crank at all! What could be the problem?
My brother has a 2008 Mazda 6 that he got from his friend for $400 after the guy hooked the battery up backwards. I was able to replace the main 120AMP fuse and get power to the car, the lights work, and the cluster is working but we have no crank. Already replaced the starter relay, 1 & 2 and the ignition fuse (40amp). Any idea what else we can check to see what the hell is going on?
First off, why you testing the battery if you already said yourself you know it's good and you have all of your lights strongly Etc etc?? Just get to the point man LOL
If you do that you may get the connector to pass current again but it would be a temporary fix at best. What needs to be done is to replace the connector or to bypass it by soldering the leads together.
I have the same issue. But it only happens once every couple of weeks. It happened today, but my 07 mazda 3 is a stick shift, so I just push started it
Best of luck fixing the issue. In my opinion I recommend soldering the connections and bypass the plug. Anyone reading this make sure to test the connections or the shop and dealer might sell you a new starter and the problem would remain due to bad connection
@@selenigarza3985 I recommend not using the same connector type. You can solder the wires and heat shrink for weather protection a mechanic should charge no more than $20 to do it. If you do it your self you can do fix it for less than $1!
Just got a 179 dollar starter at autozone tried what you recommended instead of getting to that wire and exposing it I ran a wire on the starter and to the battery and bam it worked so I’m gonna change the connector thinking a FDD5.5 with heatstrink for insulation
Ik this is a long shot but I have a starting issue in my Mazdaspeed 3 and I can’t get the starter to turn over even with jumping the relay and the starter is new
Hi, this video has shown me what my issue is, I have a new problem though, I can't work out how to remove the connector from the starter, it seems to be stuck somehow, can you post a short video on how to remove these stupid connectors please.
I would bother with the same connector, I would use an insulated push on connector. Something like this www.amazon.com/dp/B01F8NCRH2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_whK8EbM8SFB7W Then put plenty of grease in the connecting end to keep water out.
Hi, thanks for watching, I don't have access to the car at the moment but if you remember that you will need to access it from below it will help you be prepared. Practice safety you will need ramps and chuck the back wheels alternatively jack the car up but be sure to use towers as to not rely on the jack alone.
My 2009 cx7 truck doesn't crank or click or make any noise when I try to start it. In addition, the cluster and all the lights turn off and nothing turns on again until after a couple of days.
Thank you very much, I had the same problem and did not know what to do, I had already disassembled and disassembled the starter, cleaned it, fixed it and after a while it bothered again.
First random no crank for me on a Mazda, last two no cranks I had on vehicles ended up being a bad starter. First thing I tried was another flip key, the fob wouldn't unlock the doors but it was able to start the car, easiest fix yet.
Thank you for posting this video….. because of you my wife is now happy again. I didn’t fix the connection yet but after I wiggled the signal wire it fired right up.
:) significant others appreciate having a competent partner around, maybe if the car fails again you can always come to re rescue with a more permanent fixt lol
I have a 626 2002 mazda with a 2.5 V6. When I was driving it overheated bad and shut off and now it has not started. We're can I start to find out what it is or what I have to do to get it started? Thank you for your time
What happens when you crank the engine? Does it crank? Does the motor turn? A quick way to find out if your engine did not seize (the pistons are stuck) is to try to turn it by hand (usually by turning the crankshaft bolt) I'm not familiar with your engine or car model but I think that's a good start before you start throwing money at the car. After that you can do a compression test to make sure that your gaskets are still holding? Then find out why the act overheats could be a simple fix such as a thermostat or you might need new gaskets or a radiator. Sadly I can't help much over the internet but if you are able to diagnose that your engine is still usable that would be the best way to start.
@@irvininz1 yes the motor turns like if it wants to start but it does like it's out of gas but yes it does have gas in it I checked the fuel line and it's throwing gas I change a coolant temperature sensor I also changed crankshaft sensor and it still doesn't say anything
@@bvolivas8510 Ok at least the motor turns. In your first comment you mentioned the reason the car stops working was because it overheated. The very first thing to do is to find out if your engine did not suffer damage. Spray engine starter fluid into the air intake manifold. Your engine should start if it did not suffer damage from overheating and if all the electrical stuff is fine. If does not start proceed to the next steps . Start by going to AutoZone and borrow from them a compression test kit.(you will need to search on RU-vid on how to use it or have someone help if you are unsure) also search head gasket pressure test. Basically you want to make sure that the engine will be fine before to throw money at it. Second you need to find out why it overheated. (Search RU-vid cooling system diagnose) Wish you luck and that it's a simple fix. Otherwise you will need to have a mechanic do diagnostics for you but at least you will give it a fair try before going to them.
Wow man . I got my miata in a hack repair auto chain. Waiting on a Starter. I do have a feeling it also mite be something else. They are not trouble shooters
Best of luck JN I'm eying a Miata myself when the right one shows up. Hope it works out for you and it ends up being nice reliable car after a little elbow grease. Sometimes it's s gamble and depends on how the original owner treats the car. I bought CRV few years back but the owners never did any maintenance on it a I bought it based on Hondas reputation ended up being the most trouble some car i have ever owned. Due diligence and a long test drive are a must when buying used if the place won't allow you to take in your own mechanic or test drive the car simply walk away. Like in relationships you need to take it slow and get to know each other before commiting :) best of luck JN
@@irvininz1 ,,, yea its a 2007 , owned it 6 years , i left inside lights on a day before. I jumped it fine to go out, left the bar an NO START but all dash lightes a go. Shop did say starter cylinoid got fried. You just never now . But i will be looking for a good trouble shooter Tech for later. An yea these can last awhile . Motor & trans are strong. I see these videos can be anything, shift lock , ignition fuse , imobilizer , relays , starter cylinoid.
Hopefully the vid helps. If it's that then soldering the leads to the selenoid would be the cheapest and long term solution. You can always try cleaning the leads in the connector and get by for a little while. Best of luck, thanks for watching.
Hi Jani thanks for reaching out. So places like AutoZone won't have it and if you call the dealer they might try to sell you the whole harness and that can cost a fortune. The best work around in my opinion is to have the connections soldered directly. Personality I would not use the same connector even if I could source one new due to there being no water protection and it would just corrode eventually. Best of luck. If you don't have access to a solder I suppose you could clean out the connector pins of rust and that can be a bandaid fix for a little bit if indeed the connector was the problem and not something else. Best of luck !
@@irvininz1 Hi Irvin, thank you very much for the quick reply. It is happening once in a while on the Mazda 3. Interesting to say I had the same thing happening on my Aprilia Mana motorcycle, after hours of checking on all the wrong areas, finally it was a rusted connection at the starter. A good clean up, some electrical grease and a boot on top and since then a couple of years of trouble free riding.
I'm adding a link as it would take to long to explain I would just skip the connector and splice the wires to avoid the same problem later on. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r7GlDBge_WU.html
Sorry Chris I do not have access to the car at the moment. A helpful way to find out for sure would be to watch some starter replacement videos and hopefully they will show the connector.
hey thanks for watching the video. If you have tried all the diagnostics stuff on the video you may try to take out the starter and bench test. If it does not run ones of the car that likely is the issue.
I'm hoping this is my issue! Made it to the store, parked, did my thing, came back to start it...Got lights got power. Nothing from the starter, tried love taps swapping and jumping at the relay. crawling around in the rain😂 got it push started so it's not battery, relay or crank position sensor ( bc that can be same symptoms as this) will dive in tomorrow and advise😉
