YS Khong checks out the new 2018/2019 Mazda 6 SKYACTIV-D 2.2 Diesel sedan. This is the only diesel sedan in this category that is available in Malaysia. With its unique SKYACTIV-D technology, this diesel engine runs a super-low compression ratio of only 14:1. With 188 horses and 450 Nm of torque, this is a great car.

Hi Uncle YS Khong. I am looking at this mazda 6. But just wondering why there is less mazda 6 on the road. Is it because more ppl is switching to Suv? Is the 2.0 basic a value for money at this moment compared to camry and Honda accord, if I am looking at reliability, driving experience, price package?

Hi Ronald, it all depends on the individual. This one is on the firm side of comfortable. It's been quite a while since I drove a Camry, so it would not be fair to comment. I would say that both cars are targeted for the executive types.

The fact that this is a SkyActiv diesel with 450 Nm of torque should tell you the torque is actually quite awesome, compared to a gasoline engine.

My dad owns the last gen Peugeot 508 GT with 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine. 204hp & 458NM is just so addictive to drive. Such a shame Malaysians in general are still sceptical with diesel when the fact that Euro 5 diesel is so much more cleaner than the normal Euro 2M diesel used by trucks. It’s only few cents more expensive than RON 95 while being much much more economical than the petrol counterparts.

How does this car compare to Passat 2.0 TSI in terms of handling, performance and overall package?

The Passat has the advantage on power, whereas the 2.2 Diesel of the Mazda promises to be more economical to run. Both cars handle well.

I’ll be honest, this review hardly is a review in the sense you have dissected and given your actual opinion on the car. Felt like you just read the information of the Mazda spec sheet and brochure. There was no impartial elaboration from your end about the car. It’s a shame because your hill driving videos often talk about how a car performs or handles. Please take and learn some cues from car reviewers such as Mat Watson, Throttle House, TheStraightPipes and even WapCar.
