Hey Dietrich I love your channel. Huge surprise the steering and ride isn't to your liking. I plan on getting a CX-70 next yr. I love a good inline 6 and cheap price. Holy it's going to be $43k avg where I live. With the trade in of my 2014 Mazda3 GX in Canada, plus $1000 Mazda Loyalty and $500 Go Auto discounts I could have the SUV for under $36k :) I6 is inherently smoother than turbo 4 so I would gladly take this over an Ascent. I've never driven that model but I didn't like the NVH of 2023 Crosstrek. Hoping CX-70 is smooth riding. Isn't Prefereed Plus on bigger wheels? I heard differing opinions on 21" wheels affecting ride quality. Some say it makes CX-90 harsh. Others say it's stiff but absorbs bumps well. CX-70 hopefully will be 18" like the CX-90 in Canada base. The ride would be wonderfully smooth esp with long wheelbase OMG :)

Hello Watson, thank you very much for watching. I was also surprised I didn't like this CX-90 more, because I usually love how Mazda's drive. Hopefully the CX-70 is a better riding/driving car. This Premium Plus was on 19" wheels. In theory, larger wheels like 21's would make the ride a little stiffer but the handling a little better. In practice, having driven a lot of different cars with different size wheels on them, I don't find much of a difference between 19's and 21's. Here's hoping the CX-70 will be awesome, and also here's hoping Mazda brings the 3.3 diesel they are apparently going to sell overseas to the North American market.

I've never herd of a battery pack on a car being less than 1 kw, I think I've herd where the battery pack on this car is one third of one kw. That is so small I don't see how it could be useful.

My understanding is that is essentially meant for power regeneration to aid the alternator. Since modern cars use so much electricity, the “mild hybrids” recoup energy from slowing down and power electrical systems in the car with it, along with being able to give brief boosts of power to engine for forward movement when needed

I don't hear many auto journalists praise the new Pilot in this segment. We have a Touring model in the shop. Not a fan of the looks, but the interior space is nice/semi-premium. Your thoughts on it's placement among competitors?

Frankly I haven’t driven the newest Pilot. It’s on my list

21mpg combined is not ideal, but I reckon the Pilot would be cheaper to own long-term than something like a mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid vehicle like the CX-90 because the Pilot is a much simpler vehicle mechanically speaking. Just change the oil, keep up with scheduled maintenance and I'm sure it would run to 200,000+ miles easily. One hybrid battery replacement evaporates a decade's worth of money saved at the pump.

@@ktakashismiththe battery pack for mild hybrid costs 3,605.72$. Not sure what kind of “loss” you expect for replacing that… it sounds pretty affordable to me. Also unlikely you will need to replace it in a very long time into ownership.

@@David_Journey Typical replacement interval for a hybrid battery pack is 10 years/150,000 miles, sometimes sooner, sometimes later. Sure, you can buy the battery for $3605.72, but are most consumers going to replace a hybrid battery themselves? Unlikely. Therefore the cost increases to $6000, at which point you've lost all the savings from the difference in fuel economy between the two vehicles (21 vs 28mpg).

Subaru Ascent has a CVT - how is it even comparable?
@David_Journey
@David_Journey 9 месяцев назад
Ask any good mechanic about CVT-s they are complex and prone to breaking down. Not to say that Mazda’s new gen transition in this model has enough track record to judge reliability. However Mazda did quite good job with their in house designed 6-speed automatic present in their lineup.

The Subaru drives better. This is a test drive video, so that’s what I focus on.

@@CarDietrichThe CVT drone adds to the driving enjoyment? Which department of driving is Subaru better at? I guess it can eat up the bumps = important for family duty vehicle, but I doubt it provides the direct steering Mazdas have...

As a rule of thumb, yes Mazdas have sublime steering. As I'm sure I mentioned in the video, I have loved the Mazda3, CX-5 and CX-30 I've driven over the last couple of years. The steering im this car is average at best, and the Subaru Accent handles better and rides smoother than this CX-90 did. Even the Grand Highlander Platinum handles better, which I would not have expected in a million years. Of course the Toyota is a lot more money than this Mazda, but the Subaru is actually a bit cheaper. They can't all be hits buddy.
