I think I should provide more information about the car. This is not a "race car" in the literal sense of the word. It's a normal road car. I drove it to the event and back home afterwards. It's parked on a driveway waiting for the next adventure. No matter what it is: a road trip, a trackday, a gymkhana, drifting, nurburgring, you name it. It has no specific purpose, apart from providing a joy of driving. It wasn't optimised to be outright the fastest car out there, it was optimised to be a great fun whatever it does. And yes, I like the oversteer quite a bit :)
Now think about this a 6.0 Ls V8 buttttt cut in half so its only a 3.0L V4 ½LS & THEN sequentially turbo'd to say 600hp (easily achievable ) ppl Turbocharging a 4.8Ls can get 800 on a bone stock internals. An 1200hp on a 6.0L Ls , an Texas Speed engine builder's get 1500 -1700 outa a 7.0 . Back to the V4 IT would weigh at least 100lbs less an be way better for Mx5 50/50 weight.
Daaaaayummmm that's a clean build...at just over 2500lbs with 450HP you've effectively made a Japanese version of the TVR Griffith 500 equivalent. 🤜🏿🤛🏿💯🎯

definitely a pretty clean show car. Shaved bays are not my taste, but well done, I also like the transmission cover / shifter area, thats a clean look too. IMO the poorly paint matched body kit, non functional aero (iirc that wing actually creates lift) no flat floor, splitter, or diffuser, poor grip (even off the line) from likely poly bushings (which bind the suspension arms and prevent shocks from doing the dampening) some crap coilovers, likely overly stiff sway bars, or maybe simply a terrible alignment with old tires? makes a miata that is pretty lame to me. A miata expert could sort that car properly, the owner would have a much better driving car with likely not too much extra money, once the replaced parts are sold. I've been in several v8 miatas (in the mid 500whp range) that dead hook from a launch with nothing special tire (245width) or suspension wise, and dozens of miatas with insane cornering grip even without aero. Guy is not even in the throttle yet and he's still sawing at the wheel trying to keep the car going straight.
Miata guy for life. This one has a particular style to it. depending on the angle I see hints of mini supra, I see hints of a flattened Porsche and of course as always rx-7 jr.
I’ve seen 400+ hp in the B engine when fully built. I’d prefer that over the taller heavier V8. Unless of course the LS was pushing out 600+hp, then the pros would probably “outweigh” the cons.
Why does it need 600+hp when it's already a handful with "only" 450? Plus, if you read the pinned comment, you'll know that this is not a race car, it's a street legal car that the owner drove to this venue and back home. 🙂
@@marcolee7120 it sure is! The power delivery is very nice, but the center of gravity is also different. I have had both and I prefer a lower center of gravity and lighter weight.
@@module79l28I simply said that I’d prefer the 4cyl engine because it can produce a similar amount of power up to about 400 for much less weight and lower center of gravity. The LS can handle 1000+ hp, so unless it was just going to be an HP monster, for me, there is no reason to swap the engine. Just my preference. 👍🏼
The engine's overall height and CG are much lower than you think, and aluminum block versions of the LS are remarkably light for their displacement. Also remember that the LS typically punches out just as much torque as it does horsepower, and almost all of it is available just off idle. It's also practically unkillable at these power levels, and you don't have to deal with all the extra weight from turbos, intercoolers, or boost controllers.
Nice build man had a NA Miata you got the NB with the 1.8 l. I prefer jdm motors over muscle but I gotta say it's great man especially for what your using this thing for.
When you take away the 50/50 weight 😅😅 better off spending on the set up over the engine.. rule number 1 of racing if your sliding you not going forwards 😅😅😅😅
