Would I? I did. I replaced a Giulia Quadrifoglio with one and, you know what? I have never regretted that decision. The MX5 is on a different level of fun.
Here in the Uk, the 1.5L engine is probably the sweetest engine of the two available. Its not about performance, but driver engagement and the smaller engine just suits this car perfectly
I love my 2022 MX5. I like firm riding "sporty" cars. MX5 is perfect balance between everyday drivability and fun elements you can expect from sports car; good gearbox, handling, nimbleness.
There is storage space behind both seats and even under the soft top if you wanted space for things like amplifiers. Most reviewers miss the actual storage space and that’s unfortunate.
I've owned several MX5s during the years of my driving.. now, I've decided to get an MX5 RF MXR 2022. It is so much fun! The only thing that I've changed in the car so far is the oversized antenna in the back. I bought s 3 inch KSaAuto copper core antenna. I tested it yesterday, the radio reception is just as good as the original antenna. It's an amazing thing to drive!
Hiya! Glad to hear you've grown up; hat confirms it! Love this car (and well yes, your reviews too). Hubby just bought a CX3 manual and we love it! So now I'm eyeing a manual MX-5 for myself. So far, I'm impressed but it's a bit of a wait to actually get one. The manual transmission is so nice to drive in a Mazda and makes driving fun for a change. Anyway, looking forward to my MX-5! Zoom, zoom!
I've had 32 ounce drinks in the forward cupholder of my ND with no problem. Just need a lid and straw. It's actually the best cupholder I've ever used, it has a "tongue" that allows for different sizes. Too much grip spoils the fun for me. I've actually downgraded to all seasons. They grip well enough, even in the rain. But, because they break away so slowly, I'm very confident throwing the rear end around. This is my fourth MX5 and I'm still obsessed. I've put 45,000 miles on my current car in less than a year (and burned through two sets of tires).
It's a cute and attractive looking vehicle, well done also on having Yuri give his choices, I have been watching TheStraightPipes for at least 3 years now, Yuri and Jacob have reviewed everything from Supercars to everyday drivers. Matt, maybe you should of thrown the MX-5 into " Cliche Corner ".. 🤣
There's 3 mods that the average buyer should do: - Short Antenna - Muffler (Borla is much louder, but not so loud that it's obnoxious) - Stiffer Sway Bars (Flying Miata Sway Bars + Mounting Support) The sway bars dramatically change the handling characteristics of the car. Without the sway bar upgrade, you'll have a lot more body roll, but more playfulness in your transitions. With the sway bar upgrade, you'll get a much more precision driving focused machine.
I assert that it's better to first get a coilover that limits roll before a sway bar upgrade. Anti-sway bars tie the independent suspension together (kinda defeats the purpose of an independent suspension).
Here in Germany the top trim level has Recaro seats, have a ND 1. 1. modification: Big brake kit cheap K- Sports but the only availiable street legal one here , OK so far. 2. Mod: getting rid of the stupid sound - tube. Stiffer springs from Eibach ( genuine Mazda with Mazda part number ) and a oil catch can from Mishimoto ...
I bought an NC with 12,000 miles, 4 years later, I had 180,000 miles. Still ran like new and burned no oil. I have an ND, now, and have put 50,000 miles on it in a year.
Just got one and 100% agree, even with gas so high I can’t wait to get in and drive. Never had a stick shift but after less than a week I absolutely love it
It actually doesn't feel as small as I expected. Once I'm seated, it feel pretty much like any other car. Not much storage space in the cabin, but also not nearly as bad as I expected - the 'glove box' is surprisingly roomy (fits the manual, couple pairs of sunglasses, bottle of sunscreen and still has a fair bit of room left) and with a wireless charging phone holder on the dash I actually don't have much else to store. There's actually additional storage compartments behind each seat too, though those aren't super accessible.
I’ve had my NC for several years. Love it nothing goes wrong. I’ve ordered the ND3 have to wait 3-6 months so I’ll have to enjoy the nc till then. Wish I could keep both but I only have one garage 😢
I give the overall review an A-. I give the whirly hat a solid A (would have been an A+ if you were wearing a matching t-shirt). I give the MX-5 an A+, and I give your background of the City Dump @ 5:15 an F.
I just want to know what roads you took for the twisties. I purchased a 2016 MX-5 last year and dont have a single regret. I just love finding new places to take her.
I know everyone says that these don't need more power. But if I buy a sporty car I don't want to have my arse handed to me by a ford fiesta. Offer one with 300hp from a turbo 2l and update the infotainment and I'd take one. It could do with making a better noise too...
You are forgiven! Love my ND to death, swapped in some MCA coilovers for a slightly stiffer ride and honestly if there's a better handling car out there, I'm yet to find it!
Hey I got MCAs on my NC. They specced 9kg on the front and 4.5 on the rear but I swapped down to 6kg fronts. What does yours have and how do you find them?
@@hogey74 I have MCA's with 9 front,3.5 rear and the thing handles like a go cart now.Been on the car for 3 years, the wife thinks they are a bit harsh, but she also thinks a Mercedes SLK is a good convertible(They handle like an ocean liner !)
@@hogey74 Sorry for the slow reply mate! I got the Pro Comforts and stuck with the recommended 7kg front 3kg rear, and I couldnt be happier. As my daily driver comfort was my priority and I believe the car rides just as good, if not slightly better than stock (bumps are firmer but handled much more quickly, the car feels unsettled much less). The handling improvement was huge, it still feels like an MX5 with a bit of initial roll, but everything from turn-in to mid-corner adjustment is sharper, and more controllable. Best 2.5k I've ever spent - would be incredible if Mazda Australia partnered with MCA and offered them as a dealer addon (like how Eibachs lowering springs are offered in certain markets), because they could seriously pass as a high end OEM setup.
Was looking for a review of the current model mx5 and stumbled across your channel. Mate! Love it, awesome personality and great content, been binging a few of your videos for last 45 minutes :-) Keep it up, and I am currently looking forward to when I can drive more than 5km too haha (from Newy)
What i dont like about this car design is single exhaust it should be 2 on each side and the antenna (i wish they could replace it sharkfin). Other than that its beautiful.
@@tpv59 well , i sold the mustang because a ford dealer offered me 42k for it and i paid 37k brand new . I miss the power but not too much since i put 4200 miles on my miata in 2 months and my mustang had only 7800 miles on it. I love the hard top , it's a bit quieter and i can wax it . Since i got the car my average MPG has been 35.5mpg . I also sold my 2018 mazda 3 and am going to use the miata as a daily driver . I cant think of anything I would improve on the miata other than maybe 20 more HP.
@@Spiritcr1jsher THANK YOU for replying to me sir, Very Much APPRECIATED. Thank You. I am happy you are impressed with the 'MX-5'. All the Very Best from 'OZ'. (Australia)
I have a 207 MX5 NC, the only car I had that handled better was a 1959 Austin Healy Spright with a 1964 MG Midgit race preped engine, that was like a 100 HP gocart at 1250 pounds curb weight, it was a 150 mph top end fun car.
it's actually not cheaper to buy a performance package over a base that you mod yourself later for one crucial reason: interest. A 50 grand car with 6% interest (even 3% interest) over a 45 grand version means your additional 5 grand of performance mods is being bolstered by the other 45 to serve in phenomenally increasing the amount you pay over the course of a loan. the only way around this is being a rich bastard and annihilating the loan in short order with a massive principle pay off, or buying the car outright. something even the most affluent mx5ers won't have the coin to do. that said, I still purchased an RF ND2 brembo bilstein recaro package with the 6 speed and complete factory aero kit all round because I'm a sucker 🥴
Those of us who are over 6ft tall WISH we could find a convertible as fun as the Miata but that don't make us feel like a packed sardine..lol. Enjoy, you lucky hobbits! 😁
G'day Matt. How did you find the space when the roof was up? I'm built like you and I sat in one at my local dealer and I felt like a sardine and struggled to get out haha!
Eh, the 86 / BRZ isn't its competition however, given most people shopping for a roadster, don't buy a 2+2 Coupe. And same for people shopping for a coupe, they won't buy a roadster. The closest you can get in price is the 370Z convertible. Its typical competition was the Mercedes SLK250 which is now discontinued, the Porsche Boxster, and BMW Z4. And yes. Most people who dislike the MX5 never driven one and will swear the dead and done S2000 is better cause "dur it has 240hp on paper with 9k rpm so must be better". Benchracers. I got a 2019 MX5 over a newer Porsche. I had a 2008 MX5 and a 2002 986 Boxster S with the 3.2L previously. The 08 MX5 was originally for the wife, and I didn't like it _before_ driving it. That should tell you enough. As for a Fiat over the MX5, laughable. Very laughable. Enjoy the engine failures before 100k miles. And being slower.
