Start to finish Engine build. Video included block blueprinting, installing cams, cam to bucket clearance, and motor assembly. Motor build performed by our own Vinny Melon here @ CS.
Hey Brett, First I wanted to thank you all at the shop for a truly beautiful video. Second, as a young guy that's been aggressive about getting into school for High Perfomance Engines I wanted to take the time to let you know how inspired I am watching this. Being a Tech, Single Father, with no help, can be hard, but the movement I felt, reminded me of why I'm doing what I do & that I will not quit no matter how hard it gets, or stop until I get to where I want to be. So again, thanks to you & your boys for showing how far pride can take you & that you keep doing what you're doing.
Hi.. Good night.. I'm thinking about doing a little upgrade to a 2005 Mazda 6... I'd like to know how thick are the cylinder walls...? Thinking about boring out the cylinder to .0080
Very cool video thanks for sharing. I have a few questions, what is the expected power ratings for this build in hp & tq? Is this a Dankai build? what is the difference with the Dankai 1 and Dankai 2? Thanks. Perfect engine building music by the way.

To have an engine that clean to work on... Just pulled the head off my ms6, and I can't tell you the load of oil and grime on that thing. Discovered the timing was off quite a bit, and my exhaust valve in cylinder 2 was missing a pretty large chunk! Ugh. Why did he mark the timing chain cover and cam shaft bolts like that?
You’ll just have to put them in an measure them. From there you can put the measurements into the CorkSport excel sheet and it will tell you the proper bucket number for each one and that can get you what you’re needing to know
hello I have a question about the kind of valves you got and where and possibly if you know the dimensions, Partsology provides a much more affordable option and im trying to figure out if its safe.
It is not stamped as far as I know it is a white sticker on the flywheel side when you take off the transmission And then on the back side of the engine on the same flywheel side there is a flat spot with numbers stamped in but you need to take like a wire wheel to it to see
I need help! FROM ANYONE FAMILILAR WITH THIS ENGINE. i HAE A 07 CX7 AND IT WAS MIOSFIRING ON CYLINDER 4 SO I REPLACED ALL 4 COIL PACKS. HOOKED EVERYTHING BACK UP AS THERE ARE ONLY A FEWE BOLTS REQWUIRED TO REMOVE THE TOP MOUNT INTERCOOLER/ AFTER REINSTALLING EVERYTHING THE CAR WONT START. IT CRANKS BUT WOINT START UNLESS I USE STARTER FLUID AND THEN AFTER IT FINALLY RUN (=VERY ROUGH) MOST LIKELY LEAN. IT REUINS AT 1500 RPM AND SPUTTER AND DIES UNLESS I GIVE IT FULL THROTTLE. THEN IT RUNS BUT POORLY. LIKE FULL THROTTLE IIN NEUTRAL TS ONLY 3500RPM. TRYING TO PUT THE CAR IN GEAR AND GO IT JUST DIES. THE ONLY THING I DID WAS DISCONNECT THE INTERCOOLER THEN THE 4 COIL PACKS AND SPARK PLUGS./ ANY IDEA WHAT I COULD BE DOING WRONG? nO ENGINE CODES ARE SHOW USING OBD2 SCANNEWR. PLZ HELP
I haven’t been with CorkSport for a while and the sheets we used aren’t around anymore sadly. But usually the pistons and components you’re using will have their recommended specs
Hey Brett White, love the vid and glad to see how nice the block and heads are from the factory. I do want to ask, did I miss you guys putting lube on the main bearings and cylinder walls or did you guys not have to do that for some reason? Also, was that royal purple you were using? Is that the best stuff or is there something else you found that works better? Also, how much were all those parts and how aggressive will those cams be? Too aggressive for street driving? And lastly, what is the best break in process after rebuilding these engines and tuning them? I've always been nervous about taking it on the dyno after a break in period and everything blowing up when your on the dyno trying to tune it.
We definitely did put assembly lube on the main bearings. If I missed it in the video it was probably because I was going to the bathroom or something LOL. The cams are designed for anything from street driving to built motors making high hp. They're the definition of no compromises, just like the TB. Any assembly lube really works great. The Royal Purple is just an example. And we have a blog written up for break in procedure. Ill link it here: corksport.com/blog/winter-projects-update/ Give me a call at CS or shoot me and email. 360 260 2675 ext. 106. Or Brett@Corksport.com
Whats the absolute max horsepower a stock MZR Mazdaspeed engine can withstand before you run into problems. In other words, whats the most power should a person push on they’re stock 2.3 MZR. Before running into engine problems. Like cracking a piston, block bending a rods damaging other internal parts
I have question about the head: IS this some kind of special performance head, or it's stock machine worked head? ported etc.? or mybe It's just made to shine?
Hey buddy since you clearly are professional I have a question what turbo do you personally think I should go with in your professional opinion to make 500 all day my engine is fully built with everything that you just put in that engine I literally watch the video may be about a hundred times and we'll all the same parts
A Gen II GTX3071r, Gen II PTE5862, or EFR7163 could do it all day long, but you'll need supplemental fueling figured out - either a LOT of methanol or a 6th port. Full PI wouldn't be needed.
Numinous thank you I'm getting specs on those 3 turbos right now so far it's been about 4 months since my engines Ben complete I just hit the two thousand mile mark and now I am hitting full Boost well Phobos for the factory turbo I am getting between 20 and 22 PSI out of it free tune is not done tuning I am on tune c right now So far I have the water cool tial wastegate top mount manifold braided stainless steel lines
If only this video had the flash in and out stopped; gave me a seizure watching this; all I wanted to do is learn about this motor, instead I'm having sore eyes watching this
@@brettwhite08 thats alot though, We had an blue mazda 6 2.3 SV-T its the same engine without turbos That already made 166 horses without chip. very fast car because of the variable camshaft. Nice video enjoyed watching it
Amazing video! Love it...im about to tackle this project myself in the next few weeks. I have a few queations can you help please? I see that your vvt actuator is stamped FoMoCo. Can i have that part number please? I work for ford im wondering what parts i can use or cant use thanks!
I know this video is pretty old but how much would it cost me to get am engine done in that way ...rebuild I have a hatchback mazda3 2006 but non turbo I would like to know thanks
Brett I need some help. I'm Doing a 2.5l duratec swap, and ring gap is bothering me. I am installing Molnnar rods with the stock pistons. My question if you have time is...Should I regap the rings to .20 top and .024 bottom? Or is the stock 2.5l gap ok? I will be running 17 to 20 ild of boost. I have looked for the answer all over. Thank you for any information you have time to share.
