This is the day when we make Maznik ( Macedonian pita ,with a coin ,for Old New year which is on 1-14
Srekna Stara Nova Godina
That means !
when non-believers ,(bad people came to the city and asked everybody to get all their gold ,and Jewelry !
to give it to them , St, Vasiliy did not give it to them ,so everybody give their jewelry,
And St Vasili Took it back from them
He could not give it back to the good people !
So St Vasili went to the bakery and asked to make bread ,and to put all the gold and Jewelry inside,
and Everyone the Believers ,who they give their gold , Took a piece of bread And they got all their jewelry , Everyone who took a piece found their own whatever they gave !
that’s why we make either bread or #Maznik #pita and everybody takes a piece ,whoever finds the coin is the lucky one for the year
Here is the recipe I used
5 cups sift flour
1/2 tsp yeast
1 tsp salt
2 cups of warm water
for the brushing 100 ml oil 100 g unsalted butter
egg wash on the top before it bakes ( Optional
Bake it on 350 for 45 minutes or till golden brown
