Must say Mazzy Star is just about the only time I ever appreciate harmonica. Soulfull, aetherial. Like a whisper of it to sound nostalgic and longing. This band jas total mastery if texture. The way it settles into the entire jangle and hum od the rest of the instruments. So damn good.
All my couples would get jealous coz everytime I heard Mazzy Star, I would get so absolutely lost in the music and the hope's soft, velvetty voice that I wouldn't pay attention to them. This band should have gone much higher... One of my favorites in the likes of Zeppellin, YYY, Mars Volta, Sabbath and Eurythmics.
Lol ya that'd be me too, all starry eyed :) I'm happy they never achieved grand commercial fame, and I bet they are too. The people that know their music really LOVE them for the beautiful artists they are and that's more important to Mazzy, I'm hoping. Peace and love Mazzy!
The reason they've aged so well is because they never played juvenile pop music to begin with - their music was always by and for adults. They could play these tunes at the age of 80 without any embarrassment. I wish other aging musos would follow their example instead of pretending to be 17 when they're 50
could there be a less comercial song chosen as the long over-due return single? LOL how 'bout playing it live, in front of 50,000 people, as headliners @ coachella?? LOL LOL the uncompromising audacity & beauty of Mazzy Star
