LIST OF ITEMS TO BRING ALONG-
Clothing:
Underwears and banyans (undergarments) are very expensive. Try to get the stock for
2years. JOCKEY & CRUSOE
Get 2 pairs of thermal wears (also called as inners). Get Jockey thermal wears. Do not get more than 2 pairs because they are extremely expensive and not required more than 2 pairs. (1 Pair means one top and one pant (trouser). So you have to get 2 pairs
of inners (thermal wears).Thermal wears should always be tight to the body to keep u warm Also when you get the thermal wears usually the top is a full sleeve. If you wear only half sleeve shirt or T-shirt then get half-sleeve inners. Inner is worn over your undergarments and T-shirts or shirts and pants (trousers) are worn over inners. Otherwise, your T-shirt or shirt will be half sleeve and inner full sleeve.
The place you live (Germany) is very cold so get at least 4 to 5 jeans or as much as you
want for 2 years.
Cosmetics:
Get soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, face cream (if you use), deodorant (if u use), shaving cream or foam, shaving brush, shaving blade(s).... only that is required for one month. These items are
very cheap there (cheaper than India) and do not waste your luggage capacity carrying these things in excess. Get this stock that is enough for one month only. and one comb to comb your
hair.
Note:- Do not forget to get your comb. Carry an alarm clock which you can use in Germany. Also, make sure that you have put a new battery in it just before you board the flight. Also if you have not changed the batteries of your wristwatch please do change it with a new one from the exclusive showroom. All these things are extremely expensive here.Get a needle and thread for stitching (to stitch your buttons or some loose stitching...) Also
get shoe polish (just one polish and brush), if you want.
Winter Jacket: It's better to buy a winter jacket in Germany because it's less expensive and withstands the cold, but Indian winter jackets would be costly and mainly wouldn’t serve the purpose.
Food Items:
Some of the common food items that students carry are:
Spices, Tealeaves, Masalas, Haldi, Dhania, red chilly, Instant masalas, etc.
Mustard packet.
Tamarind paste
Different dals in small quantity for initial use.
Asafoetida powder.
Indian instant coffee + Indian tea (it takes time to get used to the American stuff)
Elaichi, clove, cinnamon
Masalas and tea/coffee powder, if you are a regular drinker (until somebody shifts to
beer.)
Get a couple of bags each of haldi, red chilly powder, Garam masala, Dhania, Pickle
bottles (if you have enthu, but preferably get sealed ones), rice, Moong Dal. Bring
approx. 1-month supply of masalas.
Note: You will get all Indian Spices and Masalas in Indian Shops in Dresden.
Most Indian foodstuff is available in Dresden Indian Shops or GET GROCERY Online Shopping. Don't come loaded with foodstuffs as you may have a problem with customs. Try to get "instant" stuff, as people don't have much time for cooking in Germany.
