Yeah, especially considering they gave Cyber Dragon it's alt art here despite being one of the extra good stuff cards, but ignored doing the same to what amounts to the cover cards given the Supreme King is on the box. Really don't comprehend what they were thinking with this. Could've just done it like LCGX at the very least where the normals are common and the alt arts are secrets again.
Feels like Neos would need a new card to be playable for Speed Duel format. Basically a "This card is always treated as Neos. If you control a Neo Spacian you can special summon this monster". Because otherwise the only deck they can release is Neos Fusion or bust.
I wish they’d add neos before they backtrack to og yugioh. Also did we really not send this to MBT? The only guy who I actually see talking about speed duel? Huge miss.
I wonder if they are ever going to release GX season 4 stuff, but considering that characters like Darkness or Trueman aren´t even in Duel Links I doubt it. The closest would be Judai/Yubel being a thing in DL but to my knowledge that's the extent to which they are acknowledging it, even the also non-dubbed Ark Cradle from 5Ds is more referenced. I guess that O'Brien getting literally traumatized on-screen about his parent's death really was way too much.
They did have Jaden Vs Darkness as a DLC duel in Legacy of the Duelist, and I believe Darkness was the last opponent in the GX era of the old Duel Generations game, but it’s awkward from a business standpoint to promote characters that a majority of viewers weren’t exposed to. That being said, the only reason they ignored season 4 was because it made sense to rush to 5DS as a way to promote the synchros.
I hope Speed Duels get more popular. They are a lot more beginner friendly for the general public. Just a little concerned about where Konami takes it from here. Like I don't mind doing Battle City again but after that what do you think they will do?
I would think Konami would bounce around between different arcs, but they are clearly willing to milk Battle City again. I want a set with cards from the 2 Digital World Arcs, along with the episode where Jaden went into a computer.
Sad they didn’t include Archfiend’s Awakening as a reference to Titan Ritual summoning Archfiend Matador (which is currently anime-only) by tributing Summoned Skull. 😢
What would be interesting is if they did some sort of tie-in between this and DL, such as releasing a new Legendary Duelist in DM or whatnot in Speed Duels while also running an event to obtain that duelist in DL. Especially since it is most likely meant as a bridge between Duel Links and regular YGO rather than strictly a "beginner" format.
You know what would be a really interesting thing to do with speed duel box sets? Do Sevens and Go Rush themed ones. We aren’t getting rush duels physically here anyways, might as well give us some kind of English printing of the cards. Even tho they’d be very weak when adapted to speed, Konami could always give them busted skills to compensate.
D-boyz finally getting D reprint. also not sure ih joe watched cyber knights opening, but dark fusion is also 1 of the secret rares, and looks pretty good.
With Speed Duel already being on life support, it only made sense to go back to DM. Weird that they chose to go back to the 1 specific arc that already has a box, but it could be them trying to recreate the sales of the first BCB.
Posted this in the original Twitter thread but I still assume that they're going back to DM just to slow down the progression through the series. If they kept it at 3 sets per series they would not be able to have a whole lot of sets so instead doing 3 of a new series + 1 old series one makes it so they could release more product without being stuck on one series for too long.
Plus the Battle City Box and the old DM decks are out of print and way too expensive second-hand. From how many Midterm Paradox sets are still on store shelves, I think they want all of these to be accessible to players.
The two are not really related. Speed Duel is explicitly a US generated product. They have no control over whether or not HQ prints an entirely separate game.
@@RunicSigils That is true. I was not suggesting that they were in any way officially related however in my mind, despite one being singular supplemental products and the other being an entirely seperate product line, they share the same role as “the other version of the game but without one player jerking off for ten minutes while their opponents sit idle unable to interact before being told they lost the game”.😅
Aside from how much we all love retro formats, Konami needs to push them as the next step from speed duels. After being comfortable with speed duels, the next step is Edison.
Though I agree that 5D's is a dramatic shift for those getting into the game off of DM/GX nostalgia there is still quite a bit of nostalgia for 5D's (just look at the popularity of Edison) and if the point is to get folks wanting to get into big boy yugioh through Speed Duels then it should do something to bring in new summoning mechanics as teaching tools. So if we do ever get 5D's speed duels here is how I would do it. First design each character's decks in a way that they can work competently without synchro monsters (blackwings and plants can do a fantastic job as battle and swarming focused strategies without ever making extra deck plays). Then if players want to use tuners to make synchros they have the OPTION to play a synchro in their Skill slot. So like for example something like a Stardust Skill will read like a monster card with a rules reminder on synchro summoning like this (Synchro Summon this card by sending the above materials to the GY whose levels total to exactly 8) and be something like a Dragon/Synchro/Skill card with atk, def, a level, attribute, and effect; you can still play the big synchro bosses but you only get one and give up a skill so it's not overwelming and you can play fine without them. In addition to the Synchro skills each Character should also get a non Synchro Skill to play their decks in a more classic way, Yusei can have a skill that gives a monster he controls and atk boost equal to the combined atk of all lvl 2 or lower monsters, Jack can have a skill that searches a card that does piercing and gives his piercers double battle damage, Akiza and Crow can get Lonefire/Black Garden and Blackwirlwind as skills, Luna some weird field spell effect, Leo can get equips and position changing effects to use his morphotropics more effectively. There is so much potential in a 5D's set and this format can be used to introduce XYZ, Pends, and Links down the line in a way that doesn't break the game.
It's weird how the theming of this box is Season 3/4, and then like half of the support is for Season 1 guys. Unless it's supposed to be villains, but then there's still some notable exclusions. Give us Dark Worlds, Konami! You can even make Colorless as a skill.
Well, the difference is that Battle City has already been way more thoroughly explored in the TCG, and this is easier than making a bunch of new cards for the other arcs.
To be more exact, they aren't free to make new cards for this in general since it's the American branch that does this. Main TCG/OCG would need to be involved and since Japan doesn't have Speed Duels it's really not a world premier card option.
I'm SO HYPE! GOD I love speed duel, and I don't necessarily hate the battle city refocus, especially if it makes some of the older cards from EARLY speed duel way easier to get, y'know? but yeah! Looking pretty cool! :D
Speed Duel cards are TCG legal but nothing the other way around. You need cards with the watermark to be legal. So if you're like me and have a pile of these cards from when they came out, you can't use those. Although tbh you may be able to get away with it of your OTS is desperate enough for players.
I think it's right to not go to Synchro they could build a new game for slightly later stuff. Agree they should do something different to battle city. I think they should print new cards for people like Duke and Tristan and make mini decks that work for them
As the only MBT fan who watched all of GX Adrian is here because he becomes a villain in season 3, but he plays Exodia when he's a villain not Cloudian so the deck choice does not match up.
I can't fucking believe adding stars together is so complicated they're just not letting 5Ds into the children's card game I can guarantee Xyz will be in there evntually
There's a lot of potential for DM product, i would buy the SHIT out of a millenium world themed box, or a darkside of dimensions box, or they can also get a little cringe and add stuff from the filler DM arcs. I also don't think it makes sense to go back to battle City again, its already been done, what else New is there to see?
Don Zaloog was in one of the previous GX boxes, so the aim is to get all of them and build a Dark Scorpion deck (kind of like a reward for buying all of them, or incentive to...)
Is there a list of what cards are legal in speed duel somewhere? Im curious about the format but I don't want to buy all the speed duel shit because i have alot of old cards anyway so i could just use those and buy the skill cards
If you want to play in any official setting, Konami's rules say you have to use the actual Speed Duel prints. If you're playing in an environment where this doesn't matter you can use your old cards of course but luckily almost all Speed Duel cards are very cheap anyway. As for the viewing of the cards, Duelingbook lets you filter Speed Duel legal cards at least.
Maybe I'm too TCG-brained but I feel like you can Altus + Aerosol just double or even triple handrip someone with the Fog Warning skill turn 1 and the game is just over
Pack openings and reactions to pack openings are cool, but what youtubers should be doing if they want to promote the format is actual gameplay imo. ;)
I gave up on speed duels. There's no support for it in any of the locals I go to. I still keep some sealed products in sleeves to play with non-yugioh-playing friends, cause it's a much better nostalgia bait than GOAT, surprisingly. But to actually play it? Nah, it's dead.
I love how Joseph has this conception of himself of understanding the game and being a deck builder etc in reality his best accomplishment is day 2 in a ycs with floo
