Hammer doesn't get enough credit for being an excellent stage performer. He could dance an entire show without being gassed. Not to mention his moves were flawless. Its crazy how much flack he got for taking sponsors for companies. Nowadays you have rappers taking anything and selling stuff like Travis Scott meals at McDonalds...
He should have kept the James Brown fused pop rapper personality, instead of going the mid gangsta route. "Pumps and a Bump" was that mid-hard rap. MC could have been a mainstay in Vegas after his rap career if he had learned all of JB hit songs and added his flavor and dance hype! "Hammer don't hurt em"
Before its time? It's the most early 90s thing when it comes to the beat, lyrics and flow. (Thats not a bad thing btw) similar in style to Sir Mix A lots "Baby got back " Put em on the glass " and even a bit of influence of earlier 2 live crew but with that west coast G funk sound that was prevalent in the early 90s. They don't make songs like this anymore really, sadly. People appreciated it but the album "The funky headhunter " wasn't promoted correctly and by the time it was released in 94 people weren't so much into Hammer anymore. It was all about Biggie, Snoop,Wutang, and other artists who were starting to make a name for themselves in this time period.
Shit it's still a heavy tune to me. An updated 90s version of atomic dog with teddy riley on the knobs.....shit. Pumps and a bump is by far my fav hammer joint.
Umm this was OF its time lol. After that you didn't hear much of the funk-house-infused sound of hip-hop anymore like the early 90s. It was still a jam though
Lmao..I am trying to dance with it now.. I am holding it down at 44 years old but I always dance at home so it helps. Dance moves are not as crisp but I am for damn sure getting it..😁
This is still my all time favorite video . The dancers were all on point and so flavorful with their dancing.. I always loved to watch them perform.. where can I find a list of the dancers in this video?? I tried several times to try and slow the video down to pick up the steps, but I am not good enought to do it by just watching, I have to have an instructors there to show me and , correct what I am doing wrong... these dancers with Hammer himself involved it cannot be anything other than perfection...
What a blur 😲!! 30 years!! Dancing is in Hammer's blood! Whenever he makes a brief comeback he can be able to STILL dance his a-- off!! He's always filled with energy! He's made memorable music 🙌👍! May God continue to guide his path!
Still is. Kendrick is out here. Not as huge on dance, but his artistry is up there. Keep looking underground for the good stuff though, because the mainstream isn't gonna push it like back 30 years ago.
@@BeastNationXIV Time for a new form of musical expression. Hip hop currently controlled by the Supremacist who use it as a tool to keep our young folks confused and ignorant while simultaneously imaging the Black/African American man as a irresponsible Damn fool around the world.
MC Hammer was one of the few artists whose live performances was just as good as his video or any of his recordings. VERY FEW artists could ever pull that off.
This is one of the few performances where you will see ALL the dancers bring their own swag to a choreographed song. You can tell they are dancing with emotion and passion. Everyone brought they own STANK to this song lol. I freaking love it!!!
MC Hammer was a true Pop rap pioneer, he was a true performer, a flawless dancer and rapper, he is brushed aside as a gimmick rapper but he was truly talented.
their 2 remaining dancers from his second crew, I think the taller chic is Junella Cooper and the shorter chic is Michele Jennings... but I could be wrong..
The girls in the 90's had better body's to me. Them two girls he had for his backup dancers were cold blooded. I love the 90's even though I'm growing up in the 2000's
James Matthews yep I grew up in the 90s. I was about 15 when this song came out. Going to the gym was unheard of back then for black people. We lived outdoors---no social media or cellphones. Everybody was in shape back then.
Wow! The live version is just like the video, on point! Hammer was/is truly a great performer! I hear he is doing well despite rumors going on for years that he's "broke", I wish him the best and I will ALWAYS be a fan and support him! We love you Ham!
This gave me so much adrenaline just watching them dance I felt like I was up there dancing with them!!! By the end of the video I was sitting on the edge of my seat bobbing my head, I think I rewound it a few times watching ALL the dance moves 😯😯😯🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
I bet the people who dissed Hammer back then are appreciating the hell outta this, compared to todays trash. Hammer and the dancers were 🔥🔥🔥 and on point!!! All you see today is the same ole boring twerking shit.
I used to love this song!! And not only that I used to dance just like this!! That’s probably why my knees hurt today!! 💯💯 😂😂😂😂 But wouldn’t trade my young adulthood for nothing!! He was the only wrapper/dancer that was positive!! Just loved him & his music!! Thank u Hammer for sharing your gift and contributing to my early adulthood & dancing just like this!! It kept me out of trouble!!🙏🏾🙏🏾🙋🏾♀️❤️❤️
Imagine if you will, an 8-year old British kid spazzing out to this in pyjamas and a hat pretending to be Hammer - that was me. This was one of my fave tunes back when we only had 2 cable music channels (MTv and The Box). Mid 90s was the peak, I was well into Hammer, K7, Skee-Lo, Positive K, Toni Braxton, TLC, Montell Jordan, Sir Mix-a-Lot, Ini Kamoze. I love a lot of music but I'll always go back to the 90s for some positive vibes.
I have been looking all over for this performance. I remember when I was 16 and made it my mission to learn these dance moves. I still know them to this day! Thanks for bringing back awesome memories!!
Wow, I remember watching this live on television my senior year of high school. I wish I had a time machine to take me back to 1994 so I wouldn't have to listen to today's worthless garbage........
@@louisstephens2965 Most of his entourage was his family and friends. This created a lot of problems for Hammer primarily financial problems. He took care of everyone according to him and a few other people I've seen in interviews.
