Jeez that nurturing voice, the non judging spirit and the calming presence. It's the true essence of an old school black woman or grandma energy. People don't like calling black women queen anymore but this is the definition of a Queen. This kind of vibe is where the definition came from when it was a common thing.
Beautiful to see Hip Hop legends grow and mature. She was a monster back in the day. She also never compromised herself to what the mainstream needed, but still is relevant as any other legend from her time.
grownmanbiz05 Exactly! She really laid the blueprint for the female MC's in hip-hop! I recently did a video of the female MC's & had to give her props!
qwe qwen Roxanne Shante is the greatest female rapper ever because of the juice crew legacy n the epic battles. Lyte next but its not easy to overlook lil kim n Hill.
dude I missed her at a concert she was on the same bill as salt and pepa LL cool j naughty by nature Bell Biv Devoe but i got there a little late i felt bad
MC Lyte came up the hard way. No digital, just vinyl and straight up grinding to earn her place in the pantheons of Hip Hop's Royalty. Her voice grabbed me from the first time I heard I Cram to Understand you Sam. There is absolutely nothing not to like about Lyte the MC 🎤 💓
Winter of 89' "Its the cha cha to this Mardi Gras I'm da dopest female you've heard thus far"...........I will nvr 4get how talented n dope her lines HIT me👁️💪
People will always question a beautiful female’s sexuality when they thrive in a male dominated industry and don’t act in an overly sexual manner. She carries herself in such a professionally regal manner and is so articulate. Female rappers please take notes! Make us not only sound good but look great, my queens!👸
***** Dope! I think she is the greatest female MC of all time. I actually just did a breakdown & analysis of who I think are the Top 15 Female Rappers Of All Time on my channel! I gave her the Number 1 spot. We need more like her!
SHE IS SO AWSOME. i love that she said she loved asap at the end of her list...you can tell she still respects the new hiphop youth and is still such a legend in her own regard, its amazing to see. God bless shes a Queen.
Ebro's questions were on point. When you step to a class act like MC Lyte, you better come correct. I must say, her presence alone lets you know that while she's all about business, she's extremely humble. Artists from this day in time know nothing about humility until they're broke. Keep movin' and shakin' Lyte.
I love her voice and I love her verse on "Self-Destruction" Funky fresh, dressed to impress, ready to party Money in your pocket, dyin' to move your body To get inside, you paid the whole 10 dollars Got _____ with a razor blade taped to your collar Leave the guns and the knives and the crack alone MC Lyte's on the microphone!! Bum rushin' and pushin, snatchin' and taxin' I can't understand why brothas don't be maxin' There's only one disco and they'll close one more You ain't guardin' the door, so whatcha got a gun for? Do you rob the rich and give to the poor? Yo, Daddy-O, school 'em some more!!
Yo, it was that verse that made me wanna dig into the crates and listen to all her early stuff. Like, I thought "cold rock a party" and "keep on keeping on" were dope, but that verse on self destruction pretty much solidified her as my favorite female mc
I enjoyed this interview so much I'm not even going to stroll down to read a single comment:-). I'm just going to savor the fact that this was the first interview I've seen Ebro do without constantly trying to turn the conversation sexual, or ask a bunch of dumb ass questions that have absolutely nothing to do with why the celebrity is there. A good clean conversation with only PROFESSIONAL level questions asked, and total respect shown all across the board... now if only this was the norm for ALL Hot97 interviews. #JobWellDoneEbro!!!
I miss u lyte!! I miss those strong lyrics that ripped m.c.'s to shreds and commanded respect from your peers!! A true lyricist and recording artist!!! Thank you for setting the bar high, thank you for your passion and love for the craft!!! Thank you!!!😁😁😎😎❤❤❤
SHE IS REFRESHING TO SEE AND HEAR AN ARTICULATE ,YET I WANT TO GET TO KNOW HER AS A FRIEND WHO ADDS THAT SIMPLE THING I HAVE BEEN NEEDING .. LOVE YOU MS MC THE LYTE (IN ONE EAR AND RIGHT OUT THE OTHER) THANKS !!!!!! MAY THE MOST HIGH BLESS AND PROTECT YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
This was an awesome interview and MC Lyte has depth and knowledge in a lot of area's and can show a lot of women and young women and girls how to navigate in life. I can appreciate her, love this interview.
That was a great interview. I love that MC LYTE is intelligent, articulate and quick. She's well received, and positive with a great disposition. I met her twice, at the House of Blues in Cleveland and at a popular nightclub named the Mirage. A true hip hop legend.
"Funky fresh dress to impress ready to party- money in your pocket dying to move your body-to get inside you paid a whole 10 dollas scotch tape with a razor blade taped to ya collar, leave the guns and the crack and the knives alone, M.C. Lyte's on the microphone, bumrushin' and pushin' snatchin and taxin i cram 2 understand why brothers don.t be maxin, there.s only 1 disco they.ll close 1 more, you ain.t guardin the door, so what you got a gun for- do you rob the rich and give to the poor, yo Daddy-O, school some more!" LOLLLL..(Have remembered this verse for about 26 years!) Self Destruction, 1989..check up on it if you.re not aware!! She is a super legend in the rap game & was there when it started for female rappers...she.s incredible. One of the women & legends you need to study, girls, if rapping is what you.re trying to do! :)
This is an AMAZING interview. I TRULY love the way she handles herself on the questions. Then being a vinylhead, I LOVE what she says about vinyl and record stores. Fantastic!
People talking about smashing a woman that's old enough to be their mother. I mean if that was your mom you wouldn't say things like that, so chill. Let the hip hop queen be that instead of perverting her mental in your mind fellas. You guys got kim kardashian for that.
I understand what u saying, but some of us men can't help it. She is what's considered a cougar.... A sexy older woman. Same thing with Nia Long, Jennifer Lopez, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Taraji P. Henson, etc.... We're not being disrepectful though. It's just a lustful feeling.
I was stationed in Naples, Italy in the 90"s and MC Lyte came to Naples, I knew American's loved her and we were going to be at the concert. She shut the highway down, the Italians just LOVED her, it took us some time to get out of there. She was just AWESOME. Thanks MC Lyte, you are truly an ICON!!!! You are soooo smooth with everything you do, thank you for all that you have given to us and have continued to be YOU!!!! We love you!!!! 😘😘😘😘👌👌👌👌
Never could get with Eminem and always felt he was given cred cause Dre was his mentor..but Lyte is uniquely herself. She can rhyme and act...do comedy and drama. She should have her own show be it TV or radio. She is interesting and could school some of these young spoken word women.
She is! I spoke about it on my channel why I think she's the greatest female MC & how she laid the blueprint for the other ladies. Her consistency is impressive!
This is how an interview is done. She's intelligent and seems so gracious for just living. She's one of the greatest emcees and lifting her people up instead of bringing them down has always been her focus. BiG respect to Mc Lyte!
Love the last half of this interview---mature adult conservation about relationships and other things---and from a very positive place, too! I love it! Really enjoyed this!
MC Lyte speaks and energetically flows with such a clear, sure style. Maturity and true knowledge of oneself will do that. Also, having your spirit centered on things higher than this world, including oneself, is a BIG plus. I hope, at least, that's what Lyte's spirit is like.
