I lived in a very strict family and if I did anything wrong, my dad would have a tantrum. I got my first car and after hearing this song around 1970, I started laughing when I made a stupid mistake. It helped more than you'll ever understand. Gary
Born in '72 and grew up in the 80's and never remember hearing this song. Someone shared this video with me and, after watching it, I thought, "This can't be a real song, the lyrics are ridiculous.". I looked it up and couldn't believe it when I found out Donna Summer remade it from a Richard Harris song and it hit #1 in the U.S. in 1978. Great video and had me rolling in tears laughing!
it not really Donna Summer's song. This is a Summer Influenced Disco Version. Totally runs away from the ethos of the original 1967-68 original. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tRwYQgk05DY.html
Spring was never waiting for us, girl It ran one step ahead As we followed in the dance Between the parted pages and were pressed In love's hot, fevered iron Like a striped pair of pants MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark All the sweet, green icing flowing down Someone left the cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take it 'Cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again Oh no! I recall the yellow cotton dress Foaming like a wave On the ground around your knees The birds, like tender babies in your hands And the old men playing checkers by the trees MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark All the sweet, green icing flowing down Someone left the cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take it 'Cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again Oh no! There will be another song for me For I will sing it There will be another dream for me Someone will bring it I will drink the wine while it is warm And never let you catch me looking at the sun And after all the loves of my life After all the loves of my life You'll still be the one I will take my life into my hands and I will use it I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it I will have the things that I desire And my passion flow like rivers through the sky And after all the loves of my life Oh, after all the loves of my life I'll be thinking of you And wondering why MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark All the sweet, green icing flowing down Someone left the cake out in the rain I don't think that I can take it 'Cause it took so long to bake it And I'll never have that recipe again Oh no! Oh no No Oh no!
My daughter was telling me how she made this perfect egg and perfect fluffiness and perfect spices and as she went to cut it, it flew off the plate into the floor 😆. I immediately started singing this song! 🎵✨☺️
I used to assume this song was a joke, but it isn't. Read the writeup on the man who composed it. It's like a true story. Set in MacArthur Park, Los Angeles. " it was meant to be symbolic and referred to the end of a love affair." Jimmy Webb, MacArthur Park
Found your recipe, and takes less than an hour. So quite whining. Quick Cake "A quick chocolate cake also known as Wacky Cake. It has no eggs or milk, and is mixed in the same pan it's baked in." Ingredients 1 1/2 cups sifted pastry flour 1 cup white sugar 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 cup water 1/3 cup vegetable oil 1/4 cup white vinegar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Directions Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Have ready an un-greased 8 inch square pan. Sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt into an un-greased pan. Make a well in the center and pour in the water, oil, vinegar and vanilla. Mix until blended. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool. Finally, don't leave it out in the rain. Otherwise it gets soggy and you have to sing another damn song.
What is the meaning of someone left the cake out in the rain? Losing a chapter of your life, I've been asked a million times: “What is the cake left out in the rain?” It's something I saw…But as a metaphor for a losing a chapter of your life, it seemed too good to be true.
The cronology seems 1920's erotica. Not sure it succeeded but, the singer is pure art. Donna Summer and Richard Harris would be impressed, and so would who ever wrote the song.
I’m sorry, it may not be a meme to u all. But it has been for me and my sisters. It’s so nostalgic of just being funny and silly, singing home from school. I’m 21, we just found the song randomly and it’s been a good memory ever since!
😂couldn’t stop laughing at this song as a kid. Like why would someone leave a cake in the rain? And what was the big deal about how long it took to make and that you lost the recipe? Those are pretty minor problems compared to the real bad stuff that can happen to people. It is so overly dramatic and self-absorbed that the song is begging for parody. In fact, I don’t know if this is a parody or not bc the the original version was equally dramatic (but no music videos then). I love the part where the soggy cake slips off the plate. My advise to our damsel in distress: Go buy on of those plastic covers that protect cakes. Or better, let someone else bring the cake. Even better, don’t go to picnics. But then again…I might miss laughing at this song like I did as a kid. Yes, it is for real.
More to the point....why was the cake camping out in the elements in the first place.....i mean really.....it took so long to bake it and she will never have that recipe again. Oh no.
