Really enjoy this time with you. At 66 I went out recently and purchased a little Stihl 180 for my small yard work in Louisville KY. never ran a chain saw (it’s not a power saw) but the satisfaction is rewarding. Been selling Caterpillar equipment for 40 years so I really enjoy mechanical things. Thanks for your videos and your words of wisdom. I will try and be kinder.
You may never see this comment, as the video is a year old, but I’ve watched several times. My favorite so far. Amazing that it also included your insights on your Dad. Great words. I’m an old Homelite guy. Like, almost 70 old. Use mostly just some old SXLAOs and a few XL-12s unless I need big for a fall or little for pruning. The 2 second difference in cut time notwithstanding, I’ll keep them. Ya see, I got started on them from my Dad. He had some old Macs too, but liked the Homeys best. Every time I pull the cord on one, I think of that old timberbeast. Good thoughts. And his shop and work bench looked about like yours. Thanks for the channel. I watch it a lot more than the news!
My dad run homelite 1050 for over 20 years, he didn’t think there was a saw that could compete with it. He bought it new in California came with 36 inch bar and 42 bar he sold it running in year 2000. Now I want one even though I dnt need one I dont cut wood for living. But reminds me of some of my best times as a kid
Buckin' , I started watching your channel for the tips on felling, but have discovered the real message is about MY example and the kindness I can show others . thanks
@Bubbles The SEZ, with a roughly 16 year model run, might possibly have been Homelite's best selling model. At only 40cc's with awesome compression, it's super powerful and really rips. Easily pulls a 16 or 18in bar.
I have my grand fathers super EZ and hope to have it professionally redone if they can still get parts. I ran it quite a few times and it cut great and the muffler really barks. Miss ya gramps.
Love the words of wisdom. I am walking my Dad’s shoes right now. Boy do I have a different understanding and respect for him. May God continue to bless you.
I just got my dads homelight saw back it had gotten stolen a few years back a few days after he had past away and I am going to get it running again ,thanks for this video and God bless you and your family
My dad graduated High School just in time for WW2. He was in the Pacific. I learned how to be a SeaBee beginning at age 9. Only when I started watching the History Channel and the War in the Pacific did I understand my Father
Buckin Billy you’re the man. Your one of the most positive and inspirational people I’ve ever seen and I don’t think I will ever see anyone who can run a saw as good as you. I only wish you would wear eye protection when you’re running your saws. Thank you for sharing all that you have with us.
Ha Ha.... Tell that ole Buckin Billy whats up... Ear gear =good Eye gear=where is it ? Eye protection =needed Well if your Buckin on the ground it's easy to control the directing of your dust. But if you're up in the tree cutting overhead, could be a problem. My eyes are like dust magnets, sometimes i wear swimming goggles for moments of high dust, just don't want to keep them on too long. Regular safety glasses are good for most things. After you spend a lot of time flushing the eyes out you realize that wearing a breathing mask is sometimes a good idea also... Tiny particulates getting everywhere... Yikes. 😷 I'm no germaphobe but grinding rust is dirty. Ear gear /eye protection /breathing mask, then i add gloves /hat /clothes and gloves... More gloves... My hands are like delicate little flowers 😄 I'd rather be cutting wood. I'd rather be climbing a tree. I'd rather be playing guitar I'd rather be watching Buckin tune up a power saw/splitting wood /playing drums/telling a story /talking trees. Got much love for humans/animals and trees, not necessarily in that order. 💛
I almost gave away my 1973 Homelite XL-12 when it was being cranky and difficult. But my wife talked me into keeping it. She loves the throaty sound, not at all like my other saws. I'm getting her all tuned up and ready for another firewood season.
There is something about cutting wood for a living I find satisfying and sustaining. It makes the soul sing. The continuum of, “I was born to do this. I’m at the right place, at the right time, with the right instruments” has been a mantra of mine for years. I’m indebted to you for the compass bearings and motivation you have supplied, by just being you! Learn to love yourself and your life. The rewards are endless friends❤️🌲🌳🌲🌳❤️
Buckin! Just picked up a Homelite Super XL-12 Automatic! Got a carb kit and new air filter in the mail! Cant wait to freshen her up and get her running good! God Bless!
Buckin', I realized something about my dad, he should have done a better job parenting but he couldn't. That was his best, things happened to him when he was young that shaped how he would parent. That was sooo freeing for me. I'm trying to be the best parent I can be because my kids need me to do that. Thank you for sharing. This too shall pass, one day at a time.
Ah yes, the old Homelite brings back some of my fondest memories cutting Pulpwood and Firewood with my Grandpa back in the School days. Grandpa had each saw back then and they are what I learned a lot with. Love those old machines. Unmatched durability, reliability, and longevity.
Hello Canada! Hello world! Hope you are all well, alive and kicking! Welcome to all antique, medieval and new subscribers. Glad to see you United here. Glad to be part of it. Even if I don't write a comment to every vid - my thumb is up for every single one of them! Stay safe and well and kind! 🔥❤️🔥from🌲🇩🇪🌲
I've started using the phrase "Friends" a lot in my everyday life being a direct influence of this channel - love the craft & knowledge shared my new cyber friend
I know this is an older video but I just picked up an xl12 with a 20" bar at an estate sale for $18. They couldn't get it started and there didn't seem to be much interest in it. Long story short I took it home, inspected the empty fuel tank, added fuel and it fired up on the third pull and runs like a champ.
Dad had the 10-10 (we called it a Two-10) and a Mini-Mac. Great saws, that finally failed due to letting them sit with old gas and Dad was no mechanic. He replaced with the Homelite Super XL-AO when I was 17 y-o and that was a step up. I still have and use the SXL-AO and I am now 69 y-o and it runs like new. Just finished cleaning up a huge black oak dead fall with it this past weekend. I have used your sharpening tips with it and the method is EZ and very effective. Thanks!
Old-school Woodsman and Tree Man for over 30 years. Now 73 and still Love the Trees yet now play with Boats! Still have a quiver of Saws purchased new! Macs,Stihl,Husqvarna, my favorites and Yes, Have a Pair of SP125Cs,big stihls, and Husqvarnas! And several 020 and Ms20s my fav for climbing! And lots of mac n Stihl intermediates.just kept them in case! Lol
Love seeing old saws come back to life,I got spot in my heart, love the Macs the most, then a pioneer. But it's just a preference one has.another good tutorial video buckin'
Love it! I'm ashamed to admit that I ditched my sweet xl12 because it had a mechanical failure. I'm a mechanic but didn't think I'd get around to another project. Wish I still had it. That saw impressed me thoroughly!
I love all of these videos, but this one really resonated with me in so many ways. It has to be that karma. 🙏🙏🙏 Absolutely, there is the passion for power saws, trees, and axes. That is a given! But it is the man behind that and his message and meaning that keeps drawing me back deeper and deeper into this community. At my ripe old age of 55, I never thought I would get into something like this the way I have. I am forever grateful for finding this channel years ago. Love to all comrades and new subscribers ❤️❤️❤️ Lieutenant Bradley
Cool vid Buckin'. Good sentiment. Forgiveness is releasing the prisoner from prison only to find out that the prisoner is yourself. Real Men Learn to Forgive. Chop On Bro...Chop On.
Great to see a couple of old warhorses go at it. They can still get the job done. This channel has encouraged me to learn all that I can on chainsaws and cutting and splitting wood. Thanks and keep up the good work Buckin’ Billy Ray!
Yeah brother tweakin and tuning the 66 man that thing was singin. Love the 1010 and XL12 saw off. Thank you Buckin for all you are doing for our world and our community. THANKS Buckin 🌲❤🌲✊
Good morning to all the true blues, its been a little while since ive been here so many new people welcome to yas all glad you joined the buckin army, Buckin your the man i love you brother ✌🤘
Love the video.these videos are so good not only for us viewers but for your family. To pass on from you to your children and their children. From generation to generation a lifelong story, information and life lessons. Priceless. Keep on keepin on.
Seeing that Mac brings back memories of hauling firewood with my dad. We still have that saw at the cabin. That thing is loud, it really wakes the dead.
That was a fun video @ Buckin' Billy Ray Smith I am so happy you ran the XL 12. That Homelite needs to be broken in. I grew up running McCulloch and Stihl. But when I went out on my own and was cutting firewood to pay he bills I ran Homelite. The Homelite I had did not let me down and now I look at them like a old friend. Looking out and looking in. Great stuff Friend. :) We all should think about this more as we go threw the day.
@@BuckinBillyRaySmith I'm a Stihl mechanic, however my first saw was a Super XL Auto I bought at JC Penny for $188 in 1978. I'll have to get it out, get it running and run it against my MS261C-M.
Damn that husky sounds deadly!!! The homelite and Mac are pretty close both are nice saws! Right on on the father advice, my father only talks to me if there is a life changing event, or if I have got something new and he wants to check it out. Usually once or twice a year. I have accepted it and I’m going to make my life happen! 👍🏻✊✌️
I’m from Vancouver island too buckin! I work in forestry as a driller blaster. Absolutely love the channel! And can’t get enough of forestry! Thanks for sharing your videos!
I agree 100% on your philosophy of "its a power saw, its meant to run" I told myself right after I started this I would never own a power saw I wouldn't want to take out and run. I leave those for the collectors. I had one about a year back, never had fuel in it, traded it for something else because I didnt want to be the one to run it lol. Awesome video, as always!
I find nothing more satisfying than cutting and splitting firewood, especially when my brother and I are wackin and stackin it together. You can SEE what you have accomplished unlike working on your computer all day. Take care.
The ol xl 12. This was my first saw my grandfather gave me which got me into the business I have today. "Leaf it to me" gotta love the manual oiler!!! Stay looking up fellas
You gave him a chance is main thing BR. And choose to move forward and create a relationship with him. Put the past behind you. Love you for that friend and you chose a different path for your kids and love ones.
I cut high lead logs for a year with a Mac 10-10 until one day I set it down in front of the yarder track and Dad moved the machine forward a few feet during a road change. I was pulling straw line at the time helping out so I got my first Husky along with a good lesson.
I couldn’t agree more with what you said about understanding. You said it best when you mention people not understanding but empathizing. Everyone is different and each person’s life broken down into the simplest terms is can be considered harder or easier than another’s. You’re a wise man buckin! Love to you and the family❤️
To be fair, if the Homelite is brand new, the rings aren't fully seated yet. Once you have a few cords under the belt, it'll be neck and neck with the Mac. Nonetheless......you had fun doin it and we had fun watchin.
Welcome to the new subscribers and a salute to the true blues....Happy hump🐫🐫🐫🐫day y'all. Ah the mach is still champ, both great little saws, even greater in the hands of the man beaver... love to all, be kind, love and hugs for our cynthinator and mama buckin... Duffy 🤛.....😎👍🇦🇺
Yep, just what I remember: the Homelites always started, the Macs were always cantankerous. For some unknown reason my dad preferred the Mac - until Stihl's came along.
Buckin' You put a smile on my face, every video I watch. Your good nature, good humor, and great attitude is infectious. Keep up the good work! I have Mac 10-10's and Homies. I think i like the way the Homie sounds the best. Great comparison. They were neck in neck. I need to try this with the saws I have acquired. You inspired me to give them a race. Michael
I am 60 now. I put the plug in the jug at 27 years old too. St. Francis of Assisi. 11 am in NH 90 degrees no mortar for brick today.. Made a decision to do something different. Been successful one day at a time since 1987.
Gosh dang bub. I was on a homelite kick and got some serious insight from this. I’m close to my dad, so I don’t understand where you’re coming from, but that first part got me choked up a little. Love your channel. Love your content. Love your high energy and personality!
You are way too much fun!!! Your gratitude for the little things reminds me of a great song by the legendary American singer Tanya Tucker called ‘The Little Things’. 👍🏻 One of my favorites!!!
Buck'n my dad never said he loved me neither but I knew that he did love me tho. He tough me a lot. How to run a power saw was one of them. And I love it. I loved him Buck'n. He passed away in 2000 of cancer. I love you.....Buck'n.
Billy! I’m only 7 min in and I’ve got this shit eating grin on my face a widow maker couldn’t smack off🤣 your gratitude is spreading!!! Thanks for you n yer army friend! Youz brighten days❤️🌍🌎🌏❤️
🌲🌳 Buckin I've got the highest respect for how you are a Very Talented man=🌲Man!! I'm so Amazed how you fall trees.. Lots of ppl don't know that thers an Art to it
Billy, you are one unique person. Kind of glad I got to find you here on the tube. By the time I wade through all your videos I'm gonna be better educated no doubt.
Clicked So hard i Put Another Crack In The Screen.. I Love My Homelite. SAME Saw. Can Let It Sit For a Year..Choke Bam Fires Up. I Inherited it And It Looks As Good As Yours. I also have the Older One With The White Paint around the Pull Start, i Gotta dig it Out, it Is it's Older Bigger Brother.. What i do Miss Is The First Generation of the Little top Handle Homelite.. Peace Brother 😎
Found 2 of those top handle homelite in my travels on the pawn, both fired up on the spot and run pretty good for there age,so fine for agility, they both could use some a little help but are a testament to the quality of the saws, thanks for the post good day
@@ferrallderrall6588 same as the 1 i got 20 yrs ago at a yard sale for Free...Now it needs a Full Rebuild. But i can't Bring myself to Get rid of it. 1 Day I will find a Parts one .
Just picked up a McCullough 10-10. Looks like your kind of saw. Im starting fire wood business this year. For necessity and love of the job Iv had a DeWalt since moving to the woods and cutting and prepping the property. Not down yet and tye DeWalt took a crap. Grabbed this McCullough and a craftsmen with a 18 inch bar. Tye McCullough seems bigger heavier stronger built.
I grew up packing saws and wedges, pulling haywire with my dad we worked and worked that is all I know, some of the best times and some of the worst, I left him when I was 18 cause he was a hard man to be with, fast forward 20 plus years he died at 63 i took care of him the 5 years of his life , use what you have and make the most of it.
