When Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022, there was a big push for companies and brands to leave the country. The social pressure mounted alongside the sanctions, and consumers in the West started talking about boycotting any companies that didn't pull out!
Shortly after the invasion began, McDonald's halted all operations in Russia, and after mounting public pressure and several months of deliberation, they conceded. They sold all their properties in Russia to one of their Russian franchisees, who rebranded the company at "Tasty- period!"
Of course, per the deal, McDonald's is allowed to come back any time in the next 15 years and buy back their property...
