Interesting find here, just putting this one out to document a fairly rare beacon.
McDonald and Arneson Traffic Master Model M.
Circa 1950's according to what little I could find about them.
Very interesting piece of history, the fluting on the glass dome really makes this light a looker.

On the East Coast from Delaware to Maine we used to use these as a station light when apparatus were entering the roadway it would be up on in a peek pole over the roadway and would say when flashing apparatus entering roadway

Dominion Automotive had a light out that had a similar set up with non rotation lights. Montreal Police used them on their cars in the 60s and early 70s.

Was this intended for a vehicle or for a 4-way intersection such as on a stop sign or some other arrangement?

So I know from my bit of searching, they made 6V and 12V versions of this light. Oldest versions appear to be WW2 era, and the most common pictures appear to be vehicle mounted. The most interesting was an extendable pole that lifted the beacon up to a high point on demand. Information is limited, and I am still searching some other leads on them.

@@stampeedvalkyrie It would be nice to find an old time stock photo with one of these in use, in practicality. It also seems as though it doesn't make sense that it has 4 random flashers rather than sequential like the train locomotive light from the 1970s that simulated a rotating beacon with stationary lamps.

I have seen them mounted in the 1970’s on top of a traffic light, and it would start flashing when an emergency vehicle would approach well before it entered the intersection. Usually on 5 corner intersections with limited visual oversight.

Several companies made this type of flashing beacon, all are relatively uncommon. This specific light is probably so rare since its from the 40s/50s.

I really didn't think that I was going to like this beacon. But, I fell for it. The dome looks almost brand new, and Cherry red. And I also like the 4 flashing lights. The Grandpa to the "Kojack" lights.🫡🫡🫡🫡

Glass domes never wear out really, not as easily as plastic.
