The fact that three different people across the world were fiercely and unknowingly racing to document an obscure McDonald’s training game for the DS at the same time is almost like a minor miracle. How tf does that even happen. It’s SO specific

The "Spooky" image, is background assets from Metroid Fusion, specifically the very first room. _Absolutely_ no idea why this would be inside this rom, especially seeing as it's from a *GBA* game, rather than DS.

15:40 The teriyaki patties don't require hand-washing because they are already cooked, but refrigerated. I worked in a fast food chain that sold chicken sandwiches, including teriyaki, and all the 4 variants of chicken patties were already cooked upon shipment, you just need to reheat them on the grill. This is because, ironically enough, chicken is very dangerous to handle raw, moreso than any other type of meat, so they cook them before shipment, unlike the beef patties, which aren't AS dangerous to handle raw.

About dirty teriyaki: McDonald's don't actually wipe/wash their hands after handling the raw patties. They all wear gloves. Two different gloves are provided for raw food and prep. The dirty teriyaki was simply a forgotten step in the game alone. (Coming from an old McDonald's employee)

15:52 isn't showing somebody washing their hands, they're cleaning the top of the burger off the teflon that comes down. The 10:1 and 4:1 patties have a tendency to stick to the top after it goes back up, so you're supposed to clean it off. Maybe the teriyaki pattie doesn't stick.

The Laval thing is interesting, I worked at a Canadian McDonald’s about a year ago and the methods taught in the game are incredibly similar to the actual stuff we did in the restaurant, so the idea they might have ported the game to English and French makes sense to me

Theory: Montréal is the world's fifth-largest video game centre, after Tokyo, London, San Francisco, and Austin. Laval is right next to Montréal. eSMART 2.0 was in development in Montréal and used Laval's McDonalds as beta testers but the project was eventually cancelled.

I'm assuming the "alien landscape" image is probably a piece of art from another game the developer was working on. Sometimes devs use assets from other projects early on in the creation of a game so they can test the engine. I wonder if that asset was actually used somewhere. If so, it may give a good clue to the original maker of this.

Okay I really need you to read this; I live in Ontario Canada (born and raised), and I swear to god I've seen/heard of a Canadian McDonald's DS game. Maybe this is some weird Mandela effect, or maybe this video really did unlock a hidden memory in the back of my mind. Either way I had a massive wave of deja vu when you mentioned Laval Quebec. I just have this memory of CBC (the Canadian Broadcasting Channel) reporting on a DS McDonald's game for training staff, and how it was "used in Japan as well" (or something along those lines), and I remembered my dad being mildly perturbed by this, probably because of his fear of modern technology. I think I was intrigued though, at least enough to have this memory still (if it's not a false one). I was probably 9 or 10 at the time, making the date somewhere around 2008/2009.

Ok so I am coming here with like. Minimal to no CDP knowledge, and I thought this was going to be a deep dive on restaurant history and shit. This has been the wildest fucking ride. You guys’ passion is unmatched and delicious.

I didn't even know this game existed until last month when Nick's first video about it popped up in my recommended. Now the game is so widely known that there's Tool-Assisted Speedruns, SiIvaGunner rips, and even not one but TWO fanfictions for a game made to train McDonald's employees. This is probably the deepest rabbit hole I've ever had the...experience...of falling into.

Something I remember seeing exactly one and never again at a McDonalds in Metairie, Louisiana is a fully functional Wii set up similarly to those Gamecube/PS2 stations that were pretty common back in the day. Now, It's possible I'm misremembering it (It could have just been Cooking Mama or something) but I distinctly remember there being a Mcdonalds-branded cooking game with motion-controlled burger flipping and boxing that was set up there. Idk if there are any further leads on that, or if my mind is just playing tricks on me, but I swear the memory is so clear to me.

Regarding Laval, Quebec. I’ve heard that a lot of McDonalds “tests” are done in Quebec. Weird store layouts for example. I don’t think this is unknown so the person commenting could just be lying based on that knowledge, but it gives it some credibility.

at 33:34 that's the docking bay from metroid fusion! it's severely miscolored (it should be gray and white) and cut in half with the right side seemingly being replaced with a different sprite layer of the left, but that's definitely the docking bay! edit: I should mention that no color scheme you tried matched it because metroid fusion is a game boy advance game, and that the docking bay in question was actually very much human in design. trust me, it looks a lot better properly rendered.

something that confuses me is how you wrote “kanai”. it’s wrote as かなえ in japanese, where the え at the end means “e”. wouldn’t it be spelt kanae?

The “alien” stuff is probably left overs from an earlier game they worked in, if you can retrace what game it is you might find the people who worked on it.

i lived in québec for around 3 years and when i moved back to ontario, everyone pronounced it like “kwa-beck” even though i’m used to it being like “keh-beck” and the fact that nick pronounced it correctly is rly satisfying lol

This day and age McDonald’s now uses a training game at a computer set up in the break room and employees are made to complete so many tasks each day during certain times when they are first hired. The game is sort of like this one but it has a lot of quizzes. And is in English!

on the download play title: generally those sorts of things have a "distribution cart" that you can put into a DS to create a "DS download station" which other DS units can download from. So there may actually be a cart floating out there somewhere.

The way that download play games were given out is through a cart being on a ds within the store, same with pokemon distribution at toys r us etc, so there will be a cart for mac adventures

It was tested in more than one location in Canada, however, it was only run within a timeframe of a week from what I remember hearing about it. I remember seeing it on my local news channel about 4 years ago.

I wonder if people who had the carts had to wait ten years to release them, for legal reasons. So the Laval Quebec might release soon too, once it hit ten years
