When I watch floor I always just pay attention to the tumbling and not so much to the dance elements. I had not realized that Mckayla has some pretty hard leaps! There's a split leap 1.5, a switch full, and a Ferrari!
I also saw her ub and bb live at podium training. As I said, the way she's looking (which is amazing) she WILL be an AA contender. Hands down. She came back to prove she's more than a vaulter. Ross came back because she knew she could do better. Idk what the next few years will bring but I do know if these two keep up this pace. .. they are both aa contenders. I love simone. She is an amazing gymnast. Sadly she doesn't have the lines the international judges love to see at this level.
After suffering such a harsh injury last 2012 ,to see her perform at this level is so inspiring to me and I'm sure many people with injuries from sports. Thank you for being an incredible athlete MM! So inspiring! Your changing lives!
She made right choice going "All Olympia" Seeing this live was amazing!! She wants to be a better AA contender (they didn't expect much but consistency for the London team, aside from vault) now in RIO she will definitely be an AA front runner (I keep saying "please no injuries" Rio Dream team? Ross, Maroney, Douglas, Wieber, Biles, Ohashi....... USA has so many options right now. Woohoo
I was there and I stayed after the comp to get her and Kyla's signature but they made everyone expect the staff and gymnasts evacuate the XL center because there were so many people
She is so great on vault and floor! Coming out of the competition as national champion on vault and floor will certainly bring her to worlds. Congrats McKayla!
This was the USA Gymnastics 50th anniversary. It was awesome. Nadia, shawn, chelsea shannon miller, moceanu lol. You name them, they were here. It was AMAZING!! THE FIERCE FIVE WERE INDUCTED. IT WAS A WHOSE WHO OF GYMNASTICS PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE. I AM SO GLAD IT WAS CLOSE TO HOME AND I WAS ABLE TO GET MY DAUGHTER THERE (I'm a 70&80's) gymnast and she's competitive now. Once in a lifetime for all of us!!
I read somewhere that the 3.5 twist and the double layout have the same difficultly value (which I don't agree with). She's had huge problems with that 3.5... and I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't return that element. Awesome routine. Good job McKayla!
McKayla once again proves to the world that California girls are truly unforgettable XD she makes her state proud :) I'm from Cali, so yeah... I had to make this comment.
Dconticd1....I agree. I couldn't understand why she and her bff kyla weren't even speaking (prayed it wasn't mckaylas change in hum/coaches) but it was clear after she was just so focused. When they were done they clapped and hugged and all is still well in Ross/Maroney land. Lol. This was amazing
You always have to count on Aliya's little habit of underperforming when she knows she can get away with it (Russian nationals, Universiade, even Europeans a bit), because she was taught (wisely) by Alexandrov not to spend her precious strength where it isn't worth it. Just remember how bad things looked for her prior to Olympics, yet she had tricks up her sleeve. She hits it when it counts. She'll miss a bar in training 10 times and she'll nail it in competition. She's always a contender.
@ajani_solomon3137 back in the early day of YT, replies didn't exist in the way we know them today, instead of going down in the other person's comment, they were added to the comment section, so they could be replying to someone talking about Aliyah.
This should have been her routine for the previous quad! I have always said this, her routines during the London Quad were handled very poorly! Her 3rd pass on floor was a built in error and so was her second low-to-high bar transition on bars (she missed it on BOTH days for trials). For how well she could swing she should have been much better on bars than she ways. And with how well she could tumble, if she didn't have a built in disaster of a pass (her 3rd pass) and if she wasn't injured, she should have qualified for the floor finals in London
i like her dance elements from her '12 routine more than this routine. Reminds me of the old school way of adding artistry into the routines back in the day.
Thats just it. WHEN they hit.. She hits pretty much 99% of the time and won't get flustered or put off by the world stage. She has power and she can also do the more artistic side of things.. Marta her self has said that she could be an all around gymnast if she builds up her endurance for it. shes doing two because shes not ready to do 4, not because she doesn't have the skill. Its the start of a new cycle.. she won't be pulling her upgrades until next year or 2015..
It was so odd to see mckayla and kyla competing from different gyms. But all olympia has definitely oushed mckayla ahead with choreography and dance elements. She is going to be known for more than the best vaulter ever. She "will' be an AA contender going forward. Watching her warm up on bars at this meet was lile watching a whole new mckayla. She made the right choice. Sad, she's been with kyla since age 5, but they r still bff's and ashe made the riggt choicr for herself
And I'm sorry. Calling Aly's routine awful just shows its your opinion. She deserved every ounce of that medal. She nailed it!! Gymnastics will never be a science (as in measuring a long jump) and it will be all about whose on that day. We cannot count out the jr's either. Now with wieber and aly coming back the selection committee will definitely have their work cut out. We cannot forget Ohashi, Key and Preissman. I think its very exciting. And no...never count out mustafina. Especially UB.
she's so cute i love her floor and vaults and i love how she always manages to stay in bounds when other gymnasts would've just taken the L and stepped out
Ugh, I wish the Americans would teach their gymnasts decent hand positions. Kyla Ross does that same awful busted wrists thing and it's so distracting.
It wasn't that serious of an injury and she didn't break it.. She just fractured it .. nothing that a few months off can't fix with some rehab. Its that inspirational.. People break and fracture leg bones all the time.. if she tore everything in her knee or something that can't be as easily fixed.. then yes..
She has so much power. I think that she should add a stag jump after her double arabian for an extra tenth, and she should also change her double pike for a triple twist, it would be easy for her because she has an amazing twisting technique. This would increase her d-score to a 6.3
Sorry Mariana I have to disagree. Yes anything can happen berween now and worlds and next couple if years. But if she continues on UB and BB like she did during podium training she can def contend AA. Sadly, Mustafina hasn't been able to nail her routines so far. Her connections will b amazing "if" she hits. Iordache and afenzi are of courwe among ones to watch. But so many are up there. Its her consistency and upping her sv's ans executing them. She will be up there
Not with everything I Have to say. Look at her first tumbling pass, she leans backwards and because of that, she does not get optimal height. Gotmtonsay that 95% of the gymnasts do it that way.
She runs funny like a billion little steps lol. To b honest I watched with the music off but some of the choreography looked a little bit on the sexual side no?
She always trained a stag jump after the arabian double front, I don't get why she never competed it. It would give her an extra tenth and would eliminate those steps after the landing.
I'm hoping she brings back the stag as well. I also wish she would add a whip into that pass as well. That would up her D-score, and make her competitive for a world medal.
Well, if she had done the stag jump here, she would have jumped off the podium xD It's not always easier to jump out of a tumbling pass cause when you land with your body in front of your feet its way easier to control the landing by taking a few steps. When you're jumping out of it you touch the floor once to jump and then land where ever the flight takes you..
She didn't compete floor at the Olympics (even in quals) due to her broken toe. I believe the original plan was for her to do floor over Gabby in the team finals.
