this track has claimed many iRacing lives ^^ turn 6 killed me like 3 times in the Porsche GT3 Cup series, instant death if you kiss the inside wall (1:04)
Tried it in GT Sport. Good lord that lap is fast.He had to do everything goddamn near perfect. I was roughly around 2:02.5 which is on par with the irl drivers. (fastest time was 2:03 flat this year)
#DoItForDale i do both race in real life and play sims. a sim will allow me to access any track in the world at any time. to familiarise myself with any new circuts if needed and i can push at 110% can die 16 times trying to make a perfect lap. in real life i have to start at 90% and slowly squeeze 10ths at a time out. also sims are far more cost and time effective.
+tangles01 with such racing luminaries like the late Possum Bourne, Rod Millen, Denny Hulme and of course Bruce McLaren all hailing from NZ, it's as if NZ have a production line of professional racers in constant production!
+hvf26 word on the street was that the Pirelli tyres had the edge for "one-lap/qualifying" laps whilst the Michelin tyres had the edge over multiple stints. That really didn't effect the SVG/Parente/Web 650S GT3 though; they managed to win the race (relatively comfortably) despite having to serve a penalty for pit-lane speeding!
+Donn Alfred Mendoza Also don't forget that the car had an issue and was stopped on the start/finish straight for about 45 seconds until Parente did a full system restart!
The bends on Mount Panorama are some of the best in the world. Absolute precision and pedal to the metal. I've seen some of the best crashes and some of the most awesome overtaking go up and down through the bends. Fantastic driving, total respect.
So much grip on the front end and confidence inspiring traction. The car turns in on a dime. Love it. Think I need to go drive the 650S GT3 in Assetto Corsa for a bit. :P
+Blame how so? More power, less mechanical and less aero grip. No ABS or TCS. Sequential shifter.. Definitely not as easy. Even Rick Kelly said he can triple stint the GTR and be comfortable but the V8 is tough!
+Davi Lu So do I. Really fun, and tests overtakig commitment, particularly when you reach the summit and The Chase. Hell Corner on a hi-PR car is a breeze.
Sensational lap by SVG!! You guys certainly did get the lap record but it wasn't this lap. It was the 2:01.567 on lap 23, officially a lap record must be produced in the race. Personally I think the 2:01.567 is even more impressive, likely having far more fuel on board and a more conservative map!
i love that as a 50 year old bloke, i take EXACTLY the same line and gears around the mountain , in SIM, as this guy does.....its epic in modern day sim, to drive it is another level entirely...basically park your 'self preservation' instincts at home!
if you have not driven that track, you will have no chance of understanding just how steep the first downhill S bends are, called The Dipper. Its narrow, steep, watching this car go through there at speed is unbelievable. I worked in bathurst for a few years, drove countless laps, perfect track, great to drive.
Man, that was an awesome lap! He has so much confidence in that car, picking up the throttle so early around corners... BTW, what's the yellow button on the left of the steering wheel that he presses... headlight flashing? He does it a couple of times as he comes close to the back marker.
+Troy Seven . Hopefully he would be a good teacher. Unfortunately that isn't always possible, because good teachers often have a slightly different skill set. .. For example, he knows how to drive via the 'seat of his pants', but he might not know how to convey the way that works. There is a magical connection between his pants and the slip angle of the tyres. . (Idiom: 'by the seat of (one's) pants'. Informal. 1. In a manner based on intuition and experience rather than method.)
Good god the speed across the top of the mountain is insane. Ive driven around the track in a family car. Its damned narrow. Ive watched many videos and this one is obviously and absolutely really really fast. Epic.
Fighting this track in Assetto Corsa Comptizione in VR now. And it's pretty intense from the safety of my rig. Imagine real life, and he's still 3 secs faster than me lol
Haha I came here for this, I didnt think about the left to right hand drive changeover, but my first thought was anti roll bars or brake bias from Supercars 😂😂
Absolutely amazing! Especially when you consider they're driving upside down all the time, so the aero must push the car to road way harder than on the upper half of the planet. Or maybe the Kiwi have evolved to compensate for that through driving skills.
SVG's ability to drive all manner of cars well, be it GT3, V8's or even time attack cars is without a doubt his best asset. Lift through the chase... I think not.
I'd really love to be the driver he overtook, haha. I'd tell my grandchildren: "And in 2016 I was in that video where that other guy beat the lap record in Bathurst."
I tried to find something to critique him on, where he could have made up time... However, it turned out that this indeed was the perfect lap.... amazing
Could you imagine how scary this would be if you were a passenger. Also, I know race cars have crazy aero and stick tires but my gosh! It seemed like he barely slowed down then went back up to insanity mock 3
and after that .,. SVG...takes the Win...awesome race last yr..going to be a good one today as well...great vid ty for sharing...nice ride along.🐈🙋.....luv McLaren's..
