MDOT US-127 Fall Announcement

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be improving the US-127 corridor from the Ingham/Jackson county line north to the I-69 interchange. Work is being broken into several projects between summer 2022 through summer 2026. The majority of work for these projects will take place over several phases.
These improvements will provide increased safety and mobility in this area of US-127, which is a significant local and national trade corridor.

Why not improve 127 north of this, its in terrible shape and so bumpy in some spots its dangerous

No projects set for that area of US-127 currently in the MDOT Five-Year Plan but work can always be added based on available funding.

Why does MDOT keep pretending induced demand does not exist and keeps expanding lanes? How about using that money to fund transit along these corridors instead, like the A2 to Traverse City rail?

Hi there! MDOT invests every dollar in the yearly transportation budget as dictated by the budget bills drafted by the Legislature and signed into law by the governor. The amounts for all modes of transportation in the budget are also determined by the yearly budget law.

@@MichiganDOT Thanks, we’ll check the legislative budget and touch base with our Michigan legislators to push for these changes. It would be nice to see examples of MDOT execs and board members working with the legislature to shift its mission away from private-car-dependent modes of travel to other modes of transit - such as rail, bus, bicycle - which are healthier and far more effective at moving large numbers of people. Do you have examples of this that you could share, if not what would it take to bring the upper echelons of the organization on board with these values? Thanks again!

Hi there! MDOT officials, just as any taxpayers, can certainly make suggestions to lawmakers regarding the yearly transportation budget. However, all final decisions made on those yearly budget bills are made by the Legislature and then signed into law by the governor.
