@@Vanisonic Adventure 1 was also just outright better then Adventure 2. The only bad gameplay style in Adventure 1 was fishing which was just four levels, Adventure 2's worst levels were 90% of every treasure hunting stage and shooting stage, which was gameplay styles that that Adventure 1 got right!
That's the thing about the Jet Set Radio games... the music and the aesthetic is 100x better than the game. It's like the Tron movies in that way. I absolutely adore almost everything about the Jet Set Radio games, but whenever I try to play them it's just... brutal.
Future holds up but JSR is one of the clunkiest most frustrating games ever made when you try to play it now lol. The music and style carries it a little tho still
Shenmue was going for realism and real-time. Yakuza is great but despite destroying your enemy.. they're still living at the end. Plus Yakuza isn't on the dreamcast, and requires more Horse-stance.
Virtua Tennis wipes the floor with that game, dude. As Max said, you had to be there, everyone and their mother where buying that games, hell, it was even selling systems at one point.
Dreamcast is a hard console to make a "top 10 games" list for because there's so much variety when it comes to genre on the console. Depending on what genres you're into (platformers, fighters, wacky arcade games like Crazy Taxi and Samba de Amigo, RPGs, etc.), your top 10 list might look completely different than somebody else's top 10 list
@@Gametester110-qf8vs Power Stone 2 DESERVES to be on EVERY List. It's a game that improved on the original. It's a Dreamcast EXCLUSIVE! It's one of the few games with Local 4 Player that EVERYONE can have fun with at once. An it's a game that 100% deserves to have a sequel. An if anything, Power Stone 2 had a LOT to give for a Sequel! They could have developed it to be a rival for Smash!!
I stumbled over a dreamcast at a flea market 19 Years Ago. Never heard about it or saw it in Stores. I bought a Bag including the Dreamcast and 10 Games for 80,- And god damnit what a grab, Shenmue 1+2, Grandia 2, Skies of Arcadia, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, capcom vs snk 2, Soul calibur, Time Stalkers, record of lodoss war and phantasy star online. I didnt realy know what i did buy i just wanted a cheap console with games to have something to game on in my first flat. the dreamcast fighting games and jrpgs shaped me to the gamer i am today. Fighting Games & Jrpgs for close to 20 Years now. Thanks Sega
Record of Lodoss War is such a gem, I feel like I never hear it talked about. I wasn't big on PC Games growing up (plus my parents probably would have really not liked it), so I never played the Diablo franchise, but RoLW definitely hits that same part of my brain. When I eventually played Diablo 3 I was like, "oh this is sort of like Lodoss" LOL
The editing on these recent vids are great. Did not expect to see the entire little animation from Violet in here. Respect the dedication to these recently
@@desantos288disagree but your entitled to your opinion. I think SA1 and SA2, while janky in certain areas, are very fun games in my opinion. I’d say I prefer SA1 over SA2 in my opinion but everyone has their preferences.
@@desantos288nah I didn’t even play the adventure games as a kid, only played them a few years ago and I really like them. Most of the jank is from later ports of them and the originals are about as jank as any other early 3d platformer. I won’t defend the fishing levels in SA1 being mandatory though that sucked
People that say "Only the Sonic levels are good" in Sonic Adventure 2 are the same people that say that only the Ozzy albums in Black Sabbath are the good ones without listening to the DIO ones.
I like Sabbath with Ozzy and Dio, to be honest I even prefer the Dio albuns. And I can say with all honesty in my heart, when it comes to Sonic Adventure 2, only the Sonic/Shadow levels are good. Tails being stuck in a robot is a crime, and makes the game slow, repetitive and annoying, and Knuckles/Rouge stages are an abomination of game design.
When he said that Shenmue should have allowed you to skip time, because Majora's Mask allows you to skip time, I was about ready to throw my mouse at my monitor. That's definitely not how skipping time worked in Majora's Mask. Not even close.
@@AngrySunTheoryThe time skipping in Majora’s Mask AT LEAST is a TIME RESET or maybe like changing night and day times……right? Fuck it’s been a while understanding MM mechanics for Zelda that is similar to OOT.
Max and Kenny restraining themselves from telling him Skies of Arcadia shouldnt even be a part of this discussion was...wow, I wish I had friends with so much patience for my bullshit.
@@Jose-se9pu I'll defend Simmons because I think a LOT of people including him have forgotten how massive sports games were before the PS2 era, especially non-EA Sports games. It's hard in hindsight to imagine a *tennis* game being a majorly influential game that isn't Mario Tennis or Wii Sports Tennis.
And again when Max was later talking about how he has to think about "influence and impact," when JSR was one of the most influential games on the board. Certainly wasn't thinking about influence and impact when they crossed that off.
@@neintimesthegeek1337 pretty certain Max put Melee down as the 7th most important fighting game of all time (and you could argue that that was too low). So bring that boring ass FGC gatekeeping somewhere else.
Yeah the console wars was a thing in its time, the time when word of mouth and school yard arguments of which side you're on was a fun experience, today console wars are just done by fully grown men on the internet and is just annoying more than fun. Seeing Max and company make this top 10 list is a reminder of how fun it was back then.
If Sega had not fouled up during the Saturn and 32X, I think the Dreamcast would have been a power-play. Legit, not the same when they dropped out of the race
@@A_chocolate_bar_review_channel The 32X should've never been released. The infighting between Sega of America and Sega of Japan helped screw themselves over.
SEGA had a lot of problems. The constant fighting between the Japan team and the US team along with Sony doing everything in their power to utterly kill them, just did them in. They could not outspend Sony.
As one who had a DreamCast, I salute these DOODS to attempt such a challenging list… (PowerStone, Grandia2, MvC2, RE CodeVeronica and Sonic Adventure 2 would be my top picks…) Edit: OH HELL NO THEY STRIKED OUT VIRTUAL-ON O.T.!!!
In the west it had a great launch lineup. Japan had theirs a year before that and only had 4 games on it and they mostly sucked. One year later and the US had about 20 games, all of which were cream of the crop. Midway had some issues with the discs not being pressed right or something so they had to immediately reissue games like Hydro Thunder and Ready 2 Rumble Boxing, but the games still sold well. Also for how short lived Dreamcast was in the west, it's library is mostly high quality. It does have some stinkers here n there, but they aren't ever mentioned in anyone's lists of games they think of when it comes to Dreamcast. Japan got a few extra years out of it and some exclusive fighters and the direct sequel to Shenmue, but that was it after that.
Regarding Shenmue, the criteria for it being a top 10 Dreamcast game, is that you had to experience it 20+ years ago. Back then, the whole game was an incredible, unforgettable experience, but it's very hard to recommend that someone play now. That is a tricky debate though, deciding which of those holds more significance.
Sonic adventure dreamcast is actually top 10. Look I'm not the biggest sonic fan out there. But everyone i know always agrees the dreamcast version was superior. Hell there's a mod on the steam version or a website to make the entire game look like the Dreamcast version. Plus it was the game that sold the most with the console but i know that really doesn't count.
Sonic Adventure 1 might even be top 5. Liked it or not, it was both the best selling game on the system, and, well...its fucking Sonic, the only reason why is not #1 is because of how iconic Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, and PSO were.
I think the story is great and the gameplay is fun, but a ton of glitches and not all the gameplay may be great across the board, such as fishing or gem hunting. Also no 2 player. Top 20 for sure.
It’s very true with the amount of bugs are in the ports. I’ve never fell off the loop de loops but watching other streamers and game grumps playing the gc version or 360, dropping thru the floor. Also I like the chibi look to the models.
@@MacUser2-il2cx It is a better game, but I think the first game was a tighter experience, It was a game that you wanted to do everything in one smooth run and go for the best possible score. Sequel was a more chill experience.
I never had a Sega console, but even I know that some of the Dreamcast games were some of the best EVER. Some of these NEED a rerelease, especially SC1 and Skies of Arcadia
@@randomcharacter6501It's good that Sega remembers that they have IP. I don't care if it's a remake, a remaster, or a port. I just want to play Skies of Arcadia without having to shell out money for a dreamcast/gamecube, the game, and without needing to sail the digital seas either.
I think they should be considered Dreamcast first not just because that was the console they released on before GameCube, but also because they were made in-house by Sega themselves. Sonic Team is part of Sega so that's why I count that. GameCube got better ports, sure. But that's like PSO getting more content on GameCube so you gotta include that too.
I was about to say how dare you not place the FIRST online console rpg at the number one. Those of us that experienced that realize that NOTHING will be that special (gaming wise) again. To see a chat bubble pop up from someone else, and you’re holding a controller and looking at a TV… my childhood brain imploded on itself. Good job lads
Simmons argued that Sonic should be removed because the Gamecube version was better, but then said that wasn't something you could use to remove a game when it came to Skies of Arcadia. Totally not letting his bias get out of control.
Man, I'm not gonna lie, I get really sick and tired of when people just say this about SA2. "Oh, the Sonic levels are the great but the rest of the game is bad."
for me one aspect that really is underrated af was the chao gameplay. that shit was fun af. developing these little shtters racing with them fighting etc i loved that
Having discussions like this with my best mate is one of my favourite things to do. Passionate, shouting, but from a place of love in a healthy relationship. This was super entertaining!
made me laugh how they kept arguing how they're not bias and the cultural impact of certain games but sonic adventure 2 was taken out of the running really quick lol
I gotta be honest, I'd rather discuss politics with my closest friends instead of having THIS discussion, because holy shit this has to be the *toughest* topic to tackle with the sheer variety in genres the LEGENDARY Dreamcast's library had and how *GREAT* its games were
I can't believe I'm sitting here agreeing with Simmons, but DoA2 is not better than CvS2. And a DC top 10 without Skies is no top 10, man! Also marking of REZ is just, y'all come on. That is a legendary game right there. Zwei may be the better rail shooter, but REZ is good for different reasons!
Absolutely love how intensely this was debated, exactly what the Dreamcast deserves. Ngl tho, no jet grind in the top 10 is crazy to me, the ost alone warrants it.
I will always put my hat in for SA1 being better than 2. I love both but playing both recently SA2 has so much more BS in in than I remember lol All that said the Dreamcast had such a wild library of games lol. So many bangers and just as many "wtf is this?" and I love all of them haha
Soul Cal was a defining moment in the shift towards console from arcade, but PSO did something that no game had ever done on any platform. It was truly special.
I kept having to remind myself this isnt my personal list and shouldn't take it personally. But where is Gauntlet Legends and JET SET RAAADIO! ( Honorable mentions for Vigilante 8, Army Men, and Toy Commander, and both the Ready to Rumble boxing games) And Slave Zero. And Spawn in Demons Hand. The Dreamcast era for me is just so awesome like my brother literally snuck it into the house along with a massive tube tv (he later got the vga cord) and hid the setup in his closet to gide it from our parents. Later that i remember it being dragged out and we all played Tony Hawk 2 for thanksgiving. I was a N64 boy but the dreamcast is just something magic. Shoutout to finding the Saturn had a lot of awesome stuff too, just took too many years for me to find out.
Gauntlet Legends is immediately out classed by Dark Legacy on Gamecube tho tbh. I get why youd want Legends there but despite loving that era of Gauntlet too, I'd also keep it out
@@MistromLuthane I agree it is, but for the time it was a great shoot the shit game with friends game. As I said earlier, this isn't my list and I'll respect their opinions as well as everyone's here. Someone just need to open the Midway vaults and get the old games out of Warner already.
Excommunicate the man that tried to start a conversation about removing Skies of Arcadia. Literal best game of the system. Edit: Skies at 9 is so fucking wrong
