(5-9-2015) Enjoy a video of me driving a historic bus! Stay tuned for a video detailing the move from the Virginia Museum of Transport to the Commonwealth Coach and Trolley Museum! I volunteer at the Commonwealth Coach and Trolley museum so stay tuned for many more videos about this amazing museum! Robert Preston and Mary Tyler Moore rode in this bus as it was featured in the movie Finnegan Begin Again

I remember riding in these in Wash DC. DC Transit..O. Roy Chalk started buying Air Conditioned New Looks. WOW. what a ride. Never felt bumps on those terrible Washington DC streets with the super comfy air-ride. The A/C was perfect. Seemed like a huge dinosaur unit that really dragged the power of the engine. Towards the end of their reign, The New Looks started getting old and I would see them driving in town with one side of the bus leaning to the left or right. Must have been the air ride system failing. And I would see hydraulic fluid on the back window as the condenser fan drive system would fail. It was a helluva bus made in America. They were designed for maintenance. Engine could easily be replaced. The structure support system of the bus body was pretty neat.

I was interested in becoming a transit vehicle operator for San Francisco's Muni system and one of the drivers that I talked to said that it takes months of training . You have to know not only how to drive the bus but be familiar with it , learn to stay on schedule , deal with unruly and fussy passengers , and return to the barn so the next driver can use it at the end of the day .
@exoressdelivers70
@exoressdelivers70 7 лет назад
iluvmusic62 it certainly does not take months of training. I drove a Transit bus for a 15 years. The training in South Florida is a 5 week training course. The first week is pretty much in class training. After that you go out on the road in a bus with the trainer. Each day it's a different bus model. You take turns driving the bus because the training is done in classes. The last week of the training you actually drive around with passengers with an experienced driver over seeing you. After that you're on your own.

GM had their ducks in a row when they started building buses, especially with the Silversides, 4104 and especially with the PD4106's and the Bufalo buses, those are top notch, high tech back in those days.
