Like again I love Korean culture I love the people etc there’s still so much I don’t know about it yet but I’m not gonna go out of my way and try and be Korean I’m a white Canadian woman and I always will be I can’t change my ancestry or my nationality for anything it’s something that’s stuck with you forever You can get different countries citizenship but that doesn’t change your race or nationality It’s just those who try and look like a different race for me like? Why? Again nothing wrong with loving a culture and it’s people it’s clothes it’s language etc but there comes a limit Like for me when people try and fake a Canadian accent or push Canadian stereotypes onto us it’s not nice same with any other country

@@uminitals3028 Same here I plan on learning Korean at some point so I don’t have to watch/listen to music with subtitles on 😅 it gets tiring plus I think the language is beautiful and it just makes it easier on the idols to like if you meet them at like at a fan sign or something (not that I’ll ever because ya girl is broke af 😗✌🏻) cause I know some don’t know English or just aren’t good at it some may understand it but can’t speak it well Or even just people not just idols if I met someone who was Korean and they didn’t know English well I’d totally help translate for them English is a very hard language to learn it’s one of the hardest to learn

People can restrict their love to one race lol... its called preferences. It is a different thing to not want to date a race because you think the race is like "stupid" or something because thats just racist. But if you generally prefer how asians look so you want to date an asian, thats a completely fine thing. Again, people have preferences.

I've seen a number of people who treat East Asian people like merch for their favorite anime/K-Pop band. They'll talk on K-Pop forums about how many Korean people they know as if they're talking about ticket stubs for the concerts they're been to. It's absolutely disgusting.

@@HxHorse There are many people who cannot tell the difference between people from different Asian countries, yet only actually show interest in people from a certain country. Do you think a K-Pop stan would be just as interested in dating someone from Cambodia, or Thailand? I know for a fact that many wouldn't, even though most of the defining "Asian/East Asian features" also apply to those people, so it isn't just about finding the features more attractive. That's when it crosses a line from just having a preference to straight-up fetishizing and objectifying. That's when you're starting to treat the relationship like a piece of K-Pop merch.

I agree strongly with this comment, I feel like it’s ok to obsess over this whole culture, meaning language, stile, looks, but there is just a point where it’s too far, I don’t think anyone should be going out and about trying to copy other cultures, it’s ok if ur interested in them though. Also I think that a fetish for Asians is ok, it’s based on one’s preferences, like for example someone is only attracted to guys with brown hair, you just like people with a determined characteristic but don’t like people just because they have that characteristic. Does what I’m saying make sense?

I totally agree! The problem is when people use the term on anyone who so much as listens to one kpop song. I can't count how many times I have been called a koreaboo just because I watch kdramas and like kpop. The people who use the term like that don't actually know what a koreaboo is, and how harmful it can be to call anyone who just likes the culture that word.

Exactly what I was going to say, the definition of Koreaboo is “Someone who is obsessed with Korean culture so much they denounce their own culture and call themselves Korean. They usually are kpop fanatics (not fans) or fans of League of Legends or other competitive games popular in South Korea. However there is a line; if someone just likes the music, language and culture they are not classed as a koreaboo.” And not stereotyping everyone that likes/appreciate Korean/East Asian culture as a koreaboo

eh... uhm. i mean why be attracted to a specific race in the first place? its like saying that races look the same... like, you believe a race has a specific look when that's not the case. there's a diversity of traits in humans and reducing races' traits to traits that are stereotypically associated with them just dismisses other people with that race that don't match the stereotypical look of a race. like just look at my brother and me and see if we look like the stereotypical look of a black girl and black boy that's pushed on media. just because a race is likely to have a trait, doesn't excuse saying "i prefer (race)" because there's people that don't have the traits and then there's people being like "i prefer a race bc of culture" when ppl are diverse enough to not be involved in controversial parts of their cultural or people being like "i prefer a race because they're less angry" which is also ignorant itself. but yes its an incredible bad thing when people fetishize a race, its objectifying and is just disgusting.

Be careful not to romanticise the country too much. Many Koreans are not that polite, for example I've heard racism is a really big problem there. All countrys have their problems. I also want to move to Korea, but I know it's not a perfect country. (This is not me trying to argue with you I just know some people overly romanticise Korea and Japan etc. and then get really disappointed when they actually go there).
