Me Made May - Understanding What I Love About the Clothes I Sew and Love to Wear

This May I am making a conscious effort to evaluate the clothes I sewed. I want to discover what it is about the clothes I sewed that I love to wear, wear often, and those I wish I wore more. I want to learn more about my style and the types of clothes that truly fit my lifestyle so I can use my sewing time to sew clothes that I know I will love and get a lot of wear out of them.
I think Theresa from ‪@LostMyThread‬ has plans for the fabric this May that I used in the Brumby Skirt.

it's always so interesting to see what does or does not work for people and why. thanks for sharing. after you get through me made may, maybe you could make yourself a checklist of the things that work for you to help with future plans.

Yes, I want to learn from Me Made more than discovering I wear dresses most days. I suspect I default to dress because of not liking the combo options more than I just love dresses.

I’ve never done me made may but I always consider it. I think you looking into your makes and understanding why you aren’t wearing things is a great idea. This was a fun video

Hi Christine! Thanks for discussing your closet sort-out 😊 and what you're sorting out. It's nice to hear you like your Brumby pattern; I made one last summer from an Atelier Brunette Rayon, and it turned out well, but I haven't worn it yet. 🙃 (Summer fabric, winter colors 🤔) I love your Mave, and I'm in the middle of one this very minute! I'm glad to hear you'll be able to keep it, that fabric is so nice! Happy sewing and looking forward to your MMM!

Thanks Lynn. I am currently unpicking a collar where I did not catch the under collar in the seam. This third attempt will be aided by some basting!

I definitely need to do it more often! I got up early this morning and pulled down the baskets I have on top of the closet for out of season casual clothes and created a pile of t shirts and shorts, then added some long sleeve tops to the pile that I did not wear instead of piling them in the basket at the switch over.

I love your strategy this year! Journalling is such a good idea - this will give you so much valuable information. I’m not really pledging anything this year and probably won’t be sharing daily anywhere, but my goals this May (I think) will be a summer closet edit. I don’t have the energy to go through all my summer clothes and shoes in one day so I will try to wear as many of them as I can during the month and only keep the garments that help me accomplish my style goals. I’m hoping that at the end of it, I’ll have a bunch of summer clothes I love and gaps I need to fill. Great video today!! Xx 💞

Yes, I spy my fabric scrap! I actually used that to line a Kelly Anorak, and I absolutely love that fabric. Of course you have to make the decision that works best for you, but I would be tempted to add some elastic into that waistband, just the width of the skirt when it's washed and dried and the size you want. That should stop it from slipping down. It would be a real pain, with the zipper there... Just a suggestion, though!

I did contemplate how to change it. Straight out of the dryer the fit is perfect. The waistband grows after I have had it on for a while and then it sits lower and looks very frumpy. All of my contemplation involved not taking the zipper off. I don’t want elastic around the entire waist. I did think that maybe I could unpick from side seams to close to the zipper, but am unsure how I could do that neatly because the waistband will be on show with a tucked in shirt. If I can’t gift the skirt to someone it works for, I will go in and have a good college try. The fabric is still in good enough shape I could scavenge and make a romper from it.

@@ChristineSewsALot The idea behind adding elastic that is exactly the size of the waistband when it comes out of the dryer, is that it wouldn't look gathered at all. Nobody would be able to see that there's elastic. It wouldn't look like an elastic waistband. In theory, it should look exactly the same but stop it from growing. I wonder if you could even just add a more structured fabric to reinforce the waistband from the inside... Like a strip of fabric going over the whole waistband on the inside. This is starting to sound like a lot, though. I hope you can find a good home for it and if not, I agree you should be able to salvage the fabric if it comes to it.

I would love a pretty journal cover, but right now I have to be practical and use something I have. I will eventually make one.

I completely forgot about me made May, Can u reuse the fabrics of the clothes you are getting rid of? Clothes for the grands? Dress a girl dresses?

Some of the items have a lot of seams (Yanta Overalls) and the rayon would not be sturdy enough for dress a girl. I am hoping I can pass most of it along as I have plenty of other fabric I can use for children’s clothes. Those are great ideas though. I won’t be throwing any of it in trash.
