Me on stealth rollback and relaunch 

it's good that they do an announcement to reassure the probably shocked riders.

I like how reassuring the workers are, makes the clueless riders feel less scared

this is not a fail, as it said the coaster is designed to rollback and the coaster realizes when the coaster rollbacks the brakes automatically know that the train had a rollback. this mostly occurs during the winter

A stealth roll back describes my life

Imagine if u went on this, didn't know about possibility of a rollback & suddenly went backwards at the top, the announcement after would have been a little too late to have stopped me crapping myself!

I blame ASDA they're always rolling stuff back...

How long did the relaunch take? It looks as if it is midday at the start and then at the relaunch it looks like sunset

If you've seen the launch process close up on this format of coaster (Stealth, Top Thrill Dragster, Kingda Ka), you will see a "wave" of metal plates pop up as the train launches. They are the primary brakes that deal with the energy from the rollback - there are a similar set of fixed-always-up plates which handle the "normal" initial braking work when the ride runs normally. They are a magnetic back-EMF type of brake which ultimately dumps the kinetic energy to heat (via electric current).

went on it yesterday... was terrifying enough without a rollback! I loved it!

I know why it rolled back, not just because of the wind. At 0:10 and 0:11 you can hear the sound of the brakes because they put them up too early and it hit the train (Aka rollback death insurance)

One time I was on Swarm and as we started I watched Stealth, it went up and nearly made it over, but it just about didn't and rolled back and I didn't know it was meant to do that so I said to my friend "Oh my god did you just see that?" Then she said "What?" Then I replied "The Stealth didn't make it over and it rolled backwards" and as my friend had been before, she said it was called a rollback and said it was designed to happen. I was like "Oooooohhhhh" and then I realised that we were at the top and I was like OMG we are at the top already? Lol. Now 2 years later my friend has experienced a rollback and she said its so fun! I'm going in 4 days, and I hope to get one xD

To everyone that says its fake: It really isn't, I've worked with these rides before and its all about momentum. If there isn't enough power, too much wind resistance, or not enough weight on the ride it wont experience enough momentum to get you over the hill. That's why they don't run these rides on windy days, cause all you'd experience is a rollback, and it'd be the same car launching forever. Ride conductors can make "test" rollbacks too, or for fun. We do it all the time!

Very unusual to see Stealth roll back on a sunny and (presumably) warm day. Usually, it seems to roll back on cold and/or wet days. In fact, I've ridden Stealth during miserable weather and my train had no problems making it over the top hat, so this is an extra rare occurrence!

that must be so scary in the split second as it first starts to roll backward before you realise whats happening, it does look kinda fun tho, good footage.

iv had rollback on stealth but this one really would of made me shat my pants as the seemed to be pointing downwards when they stoped and then they rolled back , like wtf fam

I’ve ridden 30 + coasters and only have had 2 rollbacks. One on Kingda Ka, 2 or 3 years ago in the summer. Back then I didn’t know about rollbacks so I thought we would all die. Then my second one was on Red Force, and I quite enjoyed that one. Now every time I go on a high roller coaster, I pray for a roll back.

stealth used to roll back nearly all the time when it was 0-90 in 2.3 seconds and then they had an upgrade 0-90 in 1.8 seconds

I noticed that the launch sounded much quieter than it is now. Has the hydrolics changed over the years?

people are saying these rides are designed to roll back, as if they're meant to not go over the top! these rides are designed to break in the case of a rollback, they're not designed to just not go over the top

If that were me I’d be ordering it to go forward saying stealth forward stupid go forward.

to anyone claiming this as fake. they actually have a warning at the start of the queue saying that it is not guaranteed to reach the top, if this occurs it has built-in safety measures to return the train for a re-launch

THIS IS NOT FAKE! It even says on the sign as you go into the queues for Stealth that sometimes it rolls back. Seriously, I bet anyone who says it's fake is just jealous they got a cool experience.

I'm one of the techs that used to run this ride almost daily, the problem you have is the launch pistons sometime don't get enough umps

Actually, heavier people give the car more momentum on the launch, therefore a less chance of a train of light people. Light people don't give the car as much weight, therefore there is a bigger chance of a rollback. It's weird, I know, but its physics.

Omg that happened to me!! It was really scary and when we stopped at top I asked is this supposed to happen and then it went back I thought we were gonna die lol

I was here last week with my school and they explained the roll back in the "thrills workshop" , the stealth ride takes averages of the weight of the people amd the force needed to push them up, so it is every fourth ride uses the average force of the last three rides, so lets say a group of kids go on the ride and the next ride is a group of adults, a roll back is queit possible.

Before you join the queue for the ride, there is a sign that says "This ride will occasionally roll back, this is perfectly normal and you will be launched again." Or something similar. It's not fake.

well...what i meant to say is i love how some of the rides at thorpe park are based around ides at Alton Towers...i know they are both owned by Merlin...but its like Stealth is loosely based on Rita and Nemesis Inferno is...well...nemesis

Yeah, your right. Most of the rollbacks occur during morning tests, when they are running the coaster with nobody on it

they upgraded stealth and made it way faster and more velocity to it when i went it 2k11. when you start it just flings you straight away instead of speeding up like in the video then u go at a moderate speed up top then 80 again its awesome havent heard any rollbacks since then..

I went on it yesturday, we were the second train to go in the morning and the guy said brace yourself it usually rolls back in the morning, me and my friends laughed but he kept a straight face lol. At the top I thought it was gonna rollback but it didnt, fun tho.

the tracks were to cold it has to be warm to at least get over all other wise it doesn't work. yes the stealth ride can only get over when the track is warm not cold its how it works. warm is good for grip and friction but makes it slipery for the wheels to turn.

if that were me, boy id be scaared... but really excited and shocked! ive never experienced one but i hope to when i go in july

would be funny if there was a voiceline that says "uh oh" or something when it starts rolling back

@TheChoclateKing it is only really about 15 minutes difference - its the cloud cover that makes it look later all they do is reverse you back into the station, which takes about 10mins, unload everyone, send a test train over and then reload everyone - and away you go again :D

@freer191 What on earth are you on about? Converted Energy? It's a precise closed hydraulic system. Rollbacks happen because of wind, extra friction on the track, unusual passenger loads or the hydraulic pumps haven't been warmed up.

It's fine. I cried, and I'm 12, shouldn't of done, ik. But afterwards I was embarrassed, cause it was actually great fun..

If u get a rollback at Thorpe Park they give u a free exclusive shirt I’m pretty sure sometimes

It hardly ever rollbacks anymore because it is now 0-84mph in 1.8 secs but they haven't done up the sign! I really wanna a ill back but I never get one and I have been on this so many times! I really want one and you kno when you get one because it makes a whirring noise and everyone shouts rollback! I am gonna try shouting rollback and see if it works!

lol, when it goes back the first time the sky is all bright and blue, but when its the relaunch it seems 5hours later, cos its orange and theres a huge cloud

to those people who say its fake its isnt! i have seen it happen myself lots of times at thorpe park it happens when they dont have enough energy

im glad you said that saw is good because ive read so many comments that its rubbish and dosent give you the thrill that it looks like it will give. i cant wait to go on it lol

@venus344 No rollercoaster is bigger than Kingdaka yet, stealth is 205 ft and kingdaka is about 460ft (Not sure of the exact height)

if you do a stealth roollback, you get a tshirt that says: i rode stealth baclwards

I'm going in April, May and July this year and three times a year won't bore me. I get nervous about this one every time.

@maddancer1002 One would suggest that it's designed to never stall, i reckon once it gets to stepping distance, its forced back in one way or another!

umm all I can see is ppl saying it's fake. it's not it has happened loads of times before. I've never been on stealth but I really want to it looks fun

rollbacks are epic i wish i could ride a rollback but i have not yet been on one though but i have seen three rollbacks at three difernet times of visiting the park

and stealth breaks down like every other time down the track

this is cool but theres a ride called top thrill dragster and it goes 128 mph and the hill is 420 ft tall

it only took about 15mins before relaunch u just have to be reversed back into the station - wait a lil while while a engineer checks it over - they do a test launch then ur off again

@19jayde88 I would have to disagree TTD has lap restraints instead of shoulder ones like kingda ka which add to the experience

@freer191 catch car at the station? Try the plant room at the end of the track with the over 500HP hydraulic motor. The catch car is nothing but a clever hook.

Bloody hell the train when speeding over the top never seen it go soo fast and i have been on ths ride +50 times

That looks amazing i REALLY want to experience that. AND it is good cus u get 1 1/2 goes on stealth and 2 launches without queing again :D

Oh my god,I'm glad it didnt do that with us as I would have shit myself twice haha. This is the scariest ride I've been on,and I've been on a few. :)

And to everyone calling this fake... I swear on my life it isnt. I have seen a rollback and there is even a sign at the park saying that it is normal.

when the it gets cold it is to slipery for the wheels and that what makes it loose its speed because the wheels aint doing mucho

If you want a rollback, then put the fat people at the back so then that way they will pull the coaster back... if they're at the front once it goes over the hill they're more likely to pull it forwards
