Jake Gyllenhaal, DIED DEAD UH HUH, People don't realise how fragile anyone is at the age of 19/20/21, I'd go as far as to say that we're the most fragile at this age as a collective. Anyone that we're with during these years leaves a very permanent impression in our lives be it wonderful or scarring. I'm close to being 23 now but no matter what I do now I'll always be carefully catching the red flags that I ignored at this age, then again Taylor's lived a lifetime since. I'm so glad that this exists, that this talks to people slightly younger in age who don't know anything about themselves yet and questioning whether they're acting crazy or acting a lil too extra. This made me cry but also so proud of where she and I both of us have come in our respective journey's since. ❤️ Love how expressive you are emotionally :')
Yeah I agree and this film handled it with real nuance! You could argue Sadie's character was not communicating well or maybe over reacted at the party but that's kinda how you feel when you're that age its a very real portrayal of the situation I think
the whole film was such a whirlwind of emotions , I've been watching it on repeat for the past three hours and it hasn't been any easier I break down everytime. the song is so beautifully written and then this film oh my god the ACTING!!! everything fit into place, my eyes are so puffy I don't think I'll be able to open them tomorrow! i loved watching your reaction!!!

I love the cinematography too! How it's all so Autumnal and the kitchen scene is cool blue and contrasts to starkly. Ugh and how she feels blue too 😭 And the Keychain line too says SO much about him and how his persona he portrays is so different to his actions and who he really is. And the fact that Sadie looks soo young compared to him and his friends literally made me uncomfortable. How she straightened her hair and wore red lipstick and a classic black look so she'd look more mature 😭 cryingg I'm in s(pain)
Just going to comment again now that I've seen the video and I apologize in advance because this is going to be an essay. I can't get over how brilliant the acting is in this, it feels so REAL and raw and Sadie and Dylans chemistry is of the scales. And the fact that we got to see them in the car upstate, and dancing in the refrigerator light. I'm so glad that we have a video for all too well, it was even more perfect than I ever dreamed it could be. Taylor's lyricism and storytelling are just unparalleled, you can feel the pain and confusion in this song even more than the original, which I didn't think was possible, the fact that she had this perfect version for 8 YEARS and we wouldn't have ever seen it if it wasn't for the rerecordings is just mind blowing. also I had the exact same reaction to Dylan wearing the scarf at the end, shit got too much for me 😭
But it wasn't Dylan at the end wearing the scarf... check the credits. The "him, later on" (wearing the scarf) actors name was Jake Lyon. She got a Jake to play Jake!

Everytime I heard it the scene fits exactly in my mind and feels like it's so intimate and deeply romantic. So simple and so beautiful. When I saw it in the movie I just SOB, you know. It's a beautiful tragic portrait.

Love your commentary! I have an interesting theory for the scene around 5:28. I believe it's connected to the "a new notch in your belt" from Trouble and meant to symbolize how the guy viewed Taylor as a number and not a person. And Taylor's slowly figuring out the truth.
Mine had to do with the fact that the scarf is said to remind him of innocence and. Along with the line in I Knew You Were Trouble where she says "Flew me to places ive never been." That he was her first. And thats why it hurt even more, this relationship. Someone in a comment on another video mentioned that shes wearing a purity ring in the video until the bed scene. But i havent been able to confirm that. I googled it to see if others had come to the same conclusion and there were a ton of news articles about it. Which i thought was a bit strange with people saying that insiders "confirmed it." That she thought she was gonna marry him. And that he had been her first. I was expecting to find fan theorys about the lyrics or the short film not articles. Some of them were so mean and came iut a long time ago. Some recently. I didnt see any that referenced the lyrics I said, i was just upset reading some seeing how they talked about her.
