Ok so, John! I am so happy to find your channel! I found your channel because of the need to make backpacking meals instead of overpaying for the ones found in the stores. You turned this pot pie into an MRE sort of thing and I love it!
John, we really enjoy you videos. We did your Chicken Pot Pie with biscuits about a month ago and had it for dinner last night. Turned out fantastic. Thanks again and keep posting.
I am inspired! Looking at getting a freeze dryer. You make it look worthwhile! Last blackout we had was pretty dreary in the dead of winter. Doing this would be good for the soul & not be worried if my freezers contents would be lost !
This is a great idea. I think I would have added onion powder and seasoned salt to the chicken mix. Your videos are giving me so many ideas to freeze dry. I bet this could be done in the dehydrator too. I can hear your freeze dryer beeping in the back ground.
John, I really enjoy your videos! Just got my fd and am looking forward to doing most of what you have done. Thanks for all you do and I hope you know how much it is appreciated.
Love your videos, this is a must try as always. One problem I'm having the beeping of your machine makes me check mine unit thinking it needs something done. Lol.
Question? Can you put the chicken in mylar bag first then seal so its separated from other stuff. Then add the biscuits and seal those in, then the mashed potatoes and so on? That would be a way to save on using so many mylar bags? I honestly don't know if that would work. I am new at the FD thing. Thanks for the video and recipe. It looks delicious. Oh, I love using Knoor in all my soups for added flavor. Blessings...
kool aid no absorber, pot pie mix yes biscuits yes, mashed potatoes yes and also a 300cc in the large outer bag, you can never be to careful and the absorbers are relatively cheap
Just bagged the first run in my FD, I made the Chicken Pot Pie. It took 30.5 hours, is that normal? I really appreciate your video instructions but I think it would be somewhat helpful if you let us know how long it takes to FD your items.
Your load took 30.5 hours this time. If you made the same load and ran it. It would most probably run a different time. Length of run has many variables. Outside temp, humidity, water content of food. Those all change every load
I had to watch it again and am answering as I watch. The outer bag is a one gallon 7 mil bag with gusset and ziplock, the main bags are 7 mil one pint bags with gusset and ziplock. The desert bar was something I picked up off of amazon with the clear front.... just trying to use them up as they are not good for long term storage but ok if I am putting them inside a large 7 mill bag.
John, I just love your video's! I just had a question on ...how long to do think these MRE's would be good for? I know it depends on how you seal them, with that said how long do you think they will be good for the o2 absorbers in mylar bags...I'm looking for long term. Thanks in advance!
The correct answer is that I am not sure, I am very careful to remove fat and oil as much as possible. In my opinion the meals I do will last 10+ years and probably more. The exception is my breakfast skillet which I did include bacon. I would like that to last 5 years and I have tested one that was over a year old and still good.
