i could get it if they meant like “there should be buildup to the singing (like subtle music in the bg to lead up to it) and it’s worse and more cringe without buildup” (which is something i personally believe) but the way people are complaining about it makes it sound like they didn’t expect there to be. singing. in a musical. like girl

The thing is that in musicals there's a difference between diegetic and nondiegetic music, diegetic music is music the characters can hear and nondiegetic is when they cannot. The problem is that this movie can't make up its mind with which it wants, sometimes the characters acknowledge there's a musical number and sometimes they don't. They have to pick one and stick to it to not confuse the audience.

I think the issue with the movie is around the cast, the actress that plays Cady does not fill the Lindsay Lohan shoes, she doesn't feel like a leading lady. The girl that plays Gretchen does not feel like someone that could be a popular person in high school irl, Aaron is not cute at all, the point of Aaron is that you understand Cady's crush and Regina's inability to let him go, even if she likes someone else. Avantika as Karen, I don't know, she plays her like she had a brain injury, the girl is beyond dumb.

nah imo Gretchen and Karen were greatly casted, both beautiful and charismatic. And Karen was just as dumb as in the og musical. And og Aaron wasn't that cute either tbh, both are your typical highschool boy beauty. But I do agree with Cady actress, she didn't feel as genuine neither sings good enough.

See, as a fan of the broadway musical, I agree that this movie was a little odd. But not because of the fact that they were signing, cuz it was a musical. But like, the filming during revenge party? Wtf was that. And why’d they change all the songs, and add new ones. It could’ve been a lot better. I know they adapted it to appeal to a broader audience, but it’s receiving worse reviews than it would have if they had just stuck more closely to the original.

For everyone saying “dUh iTs a mUsiCaL”. The point is the movie is so clunky and poorly, the beginning of the musical numbers are so jarring and don’t make sense inside the world of the movie. If you think this movie is good, great but you don’t need to try to invalidate every other opinion and perceived critique bc it makes you feel insecure for liking it lol. Why are people saying "Oh wow, a musical have music"? I mean, the music wasn't the issue for me... it's the writing and delivery of most things, it kinda lacks that film creativity the 1st one had... The actors and music are fine, but the execution was just my issue... It just doesn't... idk... hit? at least for me. Don't get me wrong, Regina's intro gave me chills for that 1st part... but yeah... the rest? idk idk, the 1st one just had an "OHHH" while this had a "uhmm, meh" feeling. The writing and direction in the 1st is just, idk, kinda better. Just my thoughts though.

Thank god finally someone who gets it. People mostly complain because the songs don't have a buildup. When you see something like Cady's first song where she randomly runs while her mother is still talking to her and the music immidiately starting as she sings it's random, out of place and cringe.

For the people saying “it’s a musical, of course there’s singing.” I get where you’re coming from, but there’s no build up whatsoever when they start singing, they can’t decide whether the characters acknowledge that there’s a musical number or not, and the movie wasn’t advertised as a musical. i feel like going into it KNOWING it will never live up to the original made it better. like no shit it’s not as good but it wasn’t supposed to be like the original. it’s a mix between the movie and musical and ya they could have done a way better job but it’s not a terrible movie

I knew it was a musical going in, but I still can’t help but cringe when they sing. Especially Reginas intro 💀 Reneé did serve major looks the whole time though, and there are some funny parts so I appreciate that. Overall, I think it’s a little hard to watch cause the original movies so legendary
