When I was a deputy sheriff many years ago, a beer truck overturned on the Intersate. My roommate, a cop called me and asked if I wanted any beer, Pabst Blue Ribbon. We ended up with about 20 cases of beer at home. I'm not sure if they still do it, but at the time, because of insurance, the contents of overturned trucks had to be buldozed and buried on the side of the road, so all of the cops in the area filled their trunks with cases of beer and took it home. That's why they don't need any help. It was gone within an hour.

when I was younger, a truckload of watermelons had a tote slide off the truck and hit the road. the fire crew asked the driver what the shipper wanted done with the watermelons and he said even the undamaged ones couldn't be sold, so the next 50 or 60 cars past the crash scene got offered a free watermelon.

what do you mean by 'bulldozed and buried on the side of the road'? ofc, insurance wants this removed but in a civilised country it would end up in garbage disposal and not wherever the accident took place. the US is a weird place. police officers helping themselves and friends to this stuff cannot be legal as someone probably signed a form confirming the beer or whatever else was properly disposed of.

@@embreis2257 yes, burying spilled cargo on site is abnormal. in my area, trees that fall on the road, and animals killed on the road are supposed to be moved only enough to reduce the hazard, and nature allowed to take its course. but spilled cargo is required to be removed at the expense of the person responsible for the spill. in the case of cargo that retains value, it is up to the owner to decide to allow salvage or not. as my own story with the spilled watermelons - the company declared them a total loss, and so the emergency responders could legally give the intact ones away.

Yes, he would miss his master, but with enough love and care, he would have a good chance of happiness with a new family. That actor's final wish for his dog smacks of the days when the wives, servants, and pets of a newly-dead king would be slain and buried with him so they could continue to serve and amuse the king in the afterworld!

And one one hand I'm really sad because I know that her life span is much shorter than mine. And part of me really wishes she would outlive me so I wouldn't have to go on without her. But on the other hand, that's kind of selfish, and part of me is glad she'll die first because I know how hard it would be on her if I died first. It's a very complicated relationship in that way.

My grandfather had his dog put down when he passed. I don't know how my grandma could do that. After my dad passed I inherited his dogs. They have helped me through the pain. I wish my grandma didn't honor his wishes. My(my dad's) Saint Bernard mix will be 15 in December. He deserves all those extra yrs. He's helped so many through the rough times that he gets whatever he wants now.

Your grandfather probably believed in heaven and might have thought that dying is a lonely journey. So despite knowing the consequences, he might have chosen to go through the journey of death together joined by mans best friend, the dog. For people that believes in existence of heaven or after life. This has been done in the past by various cultures if a person dies, they get lay to rest with (some of) their pets so they can accompany them to after life. But it's nice to hear your dad's Bernard has been such a pillar of support for you 🐾

It’s so disturbing that people choose to do it and that clearly there are some vets who would comply! I’m so happy you have your dad’s dog. Not only has he helped you, I’m sure you have helped him as he would have also left that loss. Going through it together and having each other is so important. My parents and I each have a cat (so three cats total who are all actual siblings) and we have said on multiple occasions that if one or two of us were to die while the cats are still alive, whomever remains will still keep all three cats. They are our babies. They are a part of our family. I have had the worst year of my life this year, but those cats have literally kept me going. Some days all I have to keep me here is those sweet babies and the knowledge that they would feel the loss and not know what happened. The thought of it breaks my heart. I’ve got to stay for them. ❤

The Tatum t-shirt story reminds of a guy I used to know who refused to wash socks, so he bought new socks constantly and wore a new pair each day, then threw them out. As psychological quirks go, that one was kind of mild. - He had it better than his friend who had lifelong insomnia, and picked up and changed hobbies frequently to fill the hours other people used to sleep. We were all pretty amazed that he was one of the sanest people we knew. He also knit some fantastic hats and scarves!

I am from Maryland (though I live in Sweden now). I looked up the city and it is Cumberland (it is in Allegany County while I am from PG). However, there is a catch if you move to Cumberland for 20,000 dollars. They expect you to live there for at least five years. If you move away from there before five years are up, you expected to pay back the city the money they gave you for moving there.

that tiger wasn't rubbing against the fence like he's please to see you. he's doing it because he's marking his territory as a refresher to any new passerby this message: "THIS IS MY TURF! OUT!! Gen Alpha is 14 years old and younger. Their generation started in 2010. I’m not surprised that they have started coming up with their own slang. It is still weird though. I have niblings who are part of Gen Alpha and one is four and the other two are one. The thought that when they are older, they will have their own slang is logical but also crazy to me. Right now, they are just adorable, sweet, curious, and funny. The four-year-old just started JK! Where has time gone?!
