When I was elk hunting, I bought a small chest freezer from walmart, seems like it was just over $100, I carried my Honda generator. We usually get 2 elk and they both fit in that freezer. Just run the generator for a bit every now and then and it doesn’t matter if somebody got a elk on Monday and somebody got one on Thursday. People who think Elon Musk is stupid probably think the border is secure and groceries are cheap.

Usually when we plant winter rye, we put down some 13-13-13 to help it get established. About 6 weeks later we hit it with 13-0-0 to give it enough nitrogen to re grow. That is the only way we have been able to keep it growing faster than the deer will eat it.

That blower is awesome. Wonder if they make one for the mini skid that works just as well. Just looks awkward running it backwards on such a long tractor, definitely a neck kinker. The mini skid would be facing forward and more nimble through the yard with the trees.

Happy birthday Mike. Congratulations on the bull elk. Love the European mount. ( at least that’s what we call them up here) Here in southern Minnesota we have a guy that does a deer skull for $50. The bucks are just starting to push each other around up here. I’ve been out with the crossbow several times. The weather here has been incredible. Our oak trees here have changed and are losing there leaves. Good luck deer hunting this fall and stay safe.

Mike you should take three t-post drive in the ground to make a triangle then wrap it with so fence so the deer can’t get to it and it will show you how much the deer are really eating your plot down.

Most of that dust in the truck bed is entering from the bottom of the tail gate. (there is no weather stripping)

That winter rye is going to be great to plant into next year. It will come up early and outcompete the weeds. Then you can spray it with glyphosate and plant into it. No need to even till again. That will only undo all the advantages of leaving the dead standing rye. If you don't have a no-till drill, you can just broadcast smaller seeds like turnips and radishes into it. All the drought and weed issues you had to deal with will be gone. The standing duff will conserve moisture and keep weeds from growing.

Had to pause on the deer crash story - that's the 3rd I have heard, or experienced, starting with my own brush with a deer, in the last week or so. Started when out chasing the aurora, we unexpectedly came upon a deer in the middle of the road, however expert avoidance driving and luck led to a near miss, but I have the face of that "deer in the headlights" burned in my memory (CO). I was the front passenger and would have had the deer on my lap. 2nd - The invest answer channel (James) stated that Tesla FSD saved him when it avoided a deer he didn't see (CA), and now your story in PA (along with the derby of I-80). I'm taking this as a divine warning to be careful driving at dusk/night people! 🙏 Amen.

Truth is that the dust in the bed is mostly from the bottom gap where the tailgate doesn’t seal with the bed. Love the diamondback cover… my next truck will have one, also.

I got a buck auto hit story for you. I was going into work an OT shift in my 91' F-150. First new vehicle I ever purchased. About 1/4 mile from the plant entrance, out jumps a nice big buck. You know they are big when the rack is wider than their ears. I had zero time to even hit the brakes. Took him right between the headlights at about 60. The front end looked like I smashed into a telephone pole. Broke the battery, cracked the water pump, lots of carnage. The hard chargers are the ones that get hit.

After about 40 years of commuting either to Rochester or Syracuse in upstate NY, I’ve found that Ford Taurus-1, Ford E150-1, Dodge Van-1, Dodge W100-1, (2) Ford Rangers-3, Ford F150-3. Untold numbers of near misses. Those early morning trips to work could be real white knuckled rides. I prefer cows in the road, cause you can see them from a distance and they don’t jump out in front of you. You can also stop before you hit them!

Old timer told me Buckwheat was the ideal plant. You may want to try it as he had a big farm and was an avid hunter. He lived in Punxsutawney.

They'll eat it if there's nothing else around. It also works well as a cover crop or smother crop to plant into later. Radishes, turnips, and soy beans attract deer and have a lot of protein and other nutrition value. They do take a bit more care to get growing well compared to buckwheat or winter rye.

My dad had a buick lesabre diseal back in the 80's ... he loved to pressure wash the engine ... every time he did, he got water in in and destroyed it ... be careful in the rain and when washing ... you may have a design issue

The prerut is definitely starting up. Searching. Soon theyll be chasing, mostly younger bucks. Here in Pa peak breeding is around 2 week in November. Nice bull elk! Any animal taken is a trrophy regardless of size. Still a great bull!!

I'm sure the colors there are magnificent. we have the colors like you saw in CO. The most beautiful fall colors I've ever seen were in Porcupine Mountain State Park in the UP. We hit it during peak color and it was stunning. Lake of the Clouds in the park was incredible.

I had 9 trees blow down all white and black oak you could have had, the local mill wont take red oak said it rots to quick! Its all trash now some were 90 feet tall and had 40 plus straight lumber sections what a waste! Happy Birthday!
