Lyrics:
I remember every little thing
As if it happened only yesterday
Parking by the lake
And there was not another car in sight
And I never had a girl
Looking any better than you did
And all the kids at school
They were wishing they were me that night
And now our bodies are, oh, so close and tight
It never felt so good, it never felt so right
And we're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
Glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
C'mon, hold on tight
C'mon, hold on tight
Though it's cold and lonely in the deep dark night
I can see paradise by the dashboard light

My wife was the lead singer of a lounge band in the '80s. Several times late in the evening, my wife and myself would cover this. While she had the voice of an angel and I admit I not the best singer but when on that little stage there was no one better in the world. Unfortunately she was taken away from me in an auto accident. Every time I hear this I can feel her right beside with a wide smile and her eyes beaming. God knows I miss her. RIP LeAnna I still love you and miss you every day of life

I watched a great documentary on Meat Loaf and he did not have it easy. He had to grind to make it then to fall and then rise again. Amazing story, great music and performance from someone who really worked extremely hard at his craft. His duo singers were also unbelievable and need a lot of credit too.

This song reminds me of a music theory seminar on classical music that I attended in college. The prof talked about how in symphonic music the composer will introduce a theme (like "Will you love me forever") and expand on it, then introduce a counter theme and expand that one (like "Let me sleep on it"), and then next blend the two musical themes into a new complex movement. Finally the symphony will bring out a synthesis of the two in the final movement (as with "Praying for the end of time"), usually harkening back to the introductory movement ("Glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife") to complete the circle. This song really is perfect in every sense of the word. Not to mention how tone perfect and precisely executed the music and background vocals were. Jim Steinman deserves to stand next to Mozart in history for this and Bat Out of Hell.

This is not a song. It's a great theatrical performance, a masterpiece.

@@patpeck2405 it’s crazy you say that, because I’m a musician and have written songs and whenever I think of those two song I always think “how the fuck can you write something like that”. Also as a musician when I listen to music I can’t help but being like oh this song is in whatever key and the chords and melodies and harmonies and why they work, but with those two my brain goes back to pre musician brain, it’s great

There was nothing like Meatloaf together with Jim. I never knew them personally but their music was literally the soundtrack to my life across decades and it hurts that they're gone. They were so underappreciated by the critics and the music snobs out there, but they will be forever loved and appreciated by their fans.

You gotta love Jim Steinman...the most insane, ridiculous, operatic, melodramatic, over-the-top composer of the rock era. SO entertaining. This song has 4 movements, for crying out loud! God love ya, Jim. We'll miss you.

And it's not just this song, or even the album. EVERY SINGLE DAMN SONG Jim Steinman created was so far over the top it descended down the other side into Hell, then back up the other side to the top at the far side. It's kind of amazing how often he pulled that off.

When I was really young and we played cassettes in cars, my dad listened to Meatloaf's Greatest Hits. It wasn't until adulthood that it occurred to me that I probably should not have liked this song so much when I was single digits.
