First saw Meat Puppets in London, at The Marquee, back in 1986 and got to meet them backstage, and swapped a Residents T shirt I had made for a fIREHOSE tour T shirt with Davo Claasen, their sound guy/roadie on that tour. Saw them several times since over the years and they've always been amazing. One of my all-time favourite bands!
Sweet man I was born in 85 and while I've grown up listening to some great bands like steely dan ,Ian Dury and the blockheads, buzzcocks ,magazine etc there's not many good bands to go see live nowadays. I did see devo in Edinburgh on their farewell tour and future islands and sleaford mods recently but man I can only dream of what it would have been like to see talk talk ,the sound ,the smiths ,comsat angels and the puppets back in the day
@@MarkGormley-nn7fh “Comsat Angels”?!? I haven’t heard their name for years! I saw them back in 1980 when they supported Captain Beefheart at the Glasgow Apollo! I hadn’t even heard of them back then and wasn’t expecting much, but they were great! Saw The Smiths at the Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow around about ‘85 or ‘86 maybe…that’s almost 40 years ago…jeezus! Time flies… ⏰ 🦟 🦟 !
@@MarkGormley-nn7fh Saw Buzzcocks at the Apollo too, when they had Joy Division as support! That was an awesome gig! One of the best ever. Also saw Ian Dury And The Blackheads (as my mate used to call them back then!) at the Apollo, the first time I ever had enough money to get a box ticket, the box was at eye level with the band, right next to the stage so you could look right across and see the whole band up close.
They still sound great, even now with the original lineup plus two, but I'm glad I was able to see them in the 80s when they were crazy and out of control. Cris making comments from the stage about how they were only using Owsley LSD, never mind where they might have gotten ahold of that at that late date, unpredictable medleys and tempos so fast on songs that were already cooking. I liked seeing them more than seeing the Dead, as they were really flying by the seat of their pants then.
Too bad Curt retired his old Morley echo/delay. That thing was the best for getting weird and psychedelic. It was responsible for trippy sounds on both MP II and UOTS
@@lesfaul4924 A long time ago. I think the last time I saw them (1990 or so, opening for the Red Hot Chili Peppers) he had already retired it.. Probably afraid to take it out on the road. Can't blame him though. They are decades out of production and if anything happened to it, it would be irreplaceable, and next to impossible to repair.
Never had any idea that seeing them live around the time of the release of this album would be such an important piece of music history. Got dragged down by a high school friend to see them, and was instantly hooked. Others had the Dead, but for this one, the Meat Puppets were IT. Saw them live every time they came to the DFW area from Up On The Sun until Forbidden Places. The energy was very different then. It's kinda' hard to take them as anything but a three piece because of seeing them as such all those years. Cool to see Curt still playing that same Les Paul.
Saw them up on sun tour, huevos , monsters and too high to die. Meat puppets 2 is a great cow punk album and probably my fav of all time. Wish I coulda seen that tour
That jangley guitar sound is part of what made the Tempe music scene so unique in the 80's and 90's. The Meat Puppets were the forefathers of great AZ bands like Gin Blossoms, Refreshments and Dead Hot Workshop.
Saw them recently in a small venue here in Belgium. I did not know their music. Building a song up, then tear it apart. They did not really get the respect they earn. I had the opportunity to talk to them but i did'nt. I'm sorry guys but you were fantastic. RESPECT.
From the 4th minute was what made these guys a sheer joy to watch. At the Jar one night, Cris blew his amp and they made noise for the next 20 minutes until they could get replacement. Cris ended up with his mike duct taped to his face. what a show, what a band.
The Pups are still epic! I ashamedly remember drunkenly shouting for Sweat Leaf at a show at Maxwell's, in the early 90's I believe, since I'd heard them cover it at an earlier show. After maybe 15 minutes of this, Kurt - visibly annoyed - obliged me with 4 bars to shut me up! Ah, those were great days!
You can't really change the pitch of an instrument without tuning it alternatively or using a pitch shifter and this song is in standard tuning, so you mean to say that the bass was too loud. I disagree because otherwise you wouldn't be able to hear it, but some people like lower frequencies more than others.
@@davidtapper6941 ah dont worry. ive made my fair share of comments like these too, like in 2018 i wasnt in a good place socially and posted comments about my situation on vapor wave videos, and of course people are kind and empathetic, so i got loads of replies recently to those 3 year old comments. idk i just thought of that like since were discussing old comments being brought up again and... holy shit this is a long comment
