I started with the crowd-funded Meater right from the start (waited for almost two years for it to be delivered), then graduated to the Meater Block, and then the Meater "+". I have been completely satisfied with every one of them. No Bluetooth issues (as long as you follow the Bluetooth rules) no mechanical issues - I occasionally did get over temp warnings, but everything still works. Would (will?) I buy the new unit? - Totally YES. - The app is amazing. - Great review Roel - Cheers!
I just received mine today and what I found interesting was that when pairing with the app, the "DO NOT" instructions they have you read before pairing specifically says, "DO NOT use when searing" and "DO NOT use over open flame or hot coals". I was under the impression this new version now allowed you to do those things as the Temp threshold was bumped up to like 1000 degrees.
It's like a waterproof watch - they will rate it as water resistant with pressure resistance but then say some shit like "Do not intentionally submerge in water for over 30 minutes" as a disclaimer so they don't have to warrant it.
I have a meater 2 plus. Can't wait to find out definitively for myself if it has left all of the widely cited problems of previous gen iterations behind or not! The improvements sound promising though. I only have one issue before I even test it. Meater need to either stand behind the marketing claims that they make about their product, or not. Specifically talking about the warning warranty disclaimers you get on the app before cook set-up. In my mind, if you are confident enough that your product is not in danger of breaking or failing whilst using in scenarios that you actively promote it will tolerate, then there should be no such warning disclaimers that propose that you would be forfeiting your warranty to use in such a way. Dont just sell it to us Meater. Back your claims.
Okay I have one of the original and one of the new generation. My GEN 1 had two serious flaws: First the range was about six feet and second, it kept adjusting the cook time upwards at the end and wound up seriously overcooking. Now I check with a thermoprobe near the end. The next generation only improves the range by a little bit. Maybe 20 feet. And the other problem is still present. However, it’s still the best product of it’s type on the market.
I had similar problems. Range wasn't bad as long as the block was near the cook, but the cook estimate would swing wildly from "14 hours remaining" to "take it off now or it will be charcoal." Seriously? I quit using the app to estimate cook time. Maybe it was due to that one single sensor? I'm skeptical, but I received mine as a gift from my son, so I just bought two. One as a gift for him. We'll see.
@@gchomukI got the Meater and after that the Meater+ both have the same issue: cook estimate. it varies SO much ! even when I use my regular oven, where the heat should be fairly consistent. But that did not stop me from buying the Meater 2 Plus.... I HOPE they fixed the problem with this one.
I cooked a $30 piece of Iberico pork yesterday using the Meater Plus. The probe kept disconnecting from the base and i had to use an old insta-read thermometer to finish. This is the second time in a row this has happened in two cooks. I have only used it three times. I don’t have time for a fickle device when I am cooking. I cleaned/sanded the tip and length of the probe but all it did was to connect and disconnect multiple times. Not happy with this product -
The Meater plus is great but damn I've had a lot of connectivity problems with it. I now keep a dedicated phone literally next to the dock which is never less than a meter from my BBQ and it works ok. May be my house build or WiFi quality. I'd love to know if the 2 will fix this but no way 8m spending the money till I kill my old one!
Just got one of these. The BT range is not very good and worse it seems to really have problems communicating through even windows. I tried it on Dino ribs and the meat turned out great but there is no way I can keep my phone that close to the grill for 6 hours. I get a notification every 2 minutes once it gets disconnected which is really annoying. It may not be usable until the end phase of long cooks.
I have killed a meater+ over open charcoal fire. It never reached the 300 degrees, but still, the ceramic and the endtip were slightly separated and not working anymore. On my second Meater+ the indication light on the bamboo box stopped functioning, but that can be overcome once you know. Most problems with the Meater+ I have with the weak signal reception in my all concrete house. My Kamado is on the roof terrace. I have to strategically place the box somewhere halfway in the staircase to have a signal. Very curious about the Meater 2.0! Will definetely order one.
This problem can be solved using the Meater Cloud. You just need to have two mobile devices, one close to the probe or Meater block and the second … well, could be anywhere, if connected :)
@@PITMASTERX I get that but all these companies say you can 500 feet no problem or 1,000 feet and no problem. But that being said you can’t even get 200 feet without it being out of range.
@@PITMASTERX Right, I have the Meater+, I assume there will be the M2+ as well. Anyway, when buying probe like this, I suggest go for the plus version.
Maybe if they would release one like the meater block. Using the block as wifi connection works fine for me most of the time, and would like more than one thermometer
Bought 3 of the first gen. Charging problems, thermometer ungluing or stopped working ... bought a 30 euros Inkbird on amazon and does wonders for a third of the price.
I have the original Meater, and the Meater 2 is on the way from the company. But Meater 1 was a dud - the blue tooth range was about 10 feet. It was a real disappointment - I dont even know why I ordered M2.
@@ne0teric Either way, it's a terrible leave-in thermometer. I used it in a chicken on the weekend and there's a 100f difference in the Meater reading to the hood thermometer (which is accurate to 15f I've tested it).
curious of the real temperature of the oil?? should have a temperature probe in the oil vs the Meater. Curious how the 932 degree limit is going to hold up against a 1000 degree open flame?
I have a Meter + that was given to me as a present, the few times I used it I kept getting disconnects. Today I deleted my profiles and did a reset on the App and it seems to be solid now. I will just take your word on the deep fryer test, I'm not doing that. HA
i just wonder how long the electronics and battery will last, electronics are not welded together they are soldered. and if not made with high temp parts it wont last long!!!
Unfortunately I have the whole 4 piece set of the original one but I also have seen 2 other reviews on this one and both people said that the ambient temperature was off
Ambient should only be a guide and not relied on with these probes. Putting a probe in a giant hunk of cold meat won't be accurate due to the cold meat being so close. You should always have a backup thermometer for your actual bbq
Time to re-season that carbon steel pan. In old time America, after the harvest when the fields would be burned back the wives and mothers would bring their cast iron cookware that needed re-seasoning and they'd put them in the flames of the burning fields to get bare cast iron after the fire died out.
Meater 2 its a total crap! Its Algorithm is not precise at all! I set Target Temp on the Ribeye at 56c and when it reaches 50c it asks me to Remove the Meat from the heat. I immediately remove the meat from the heat and it continues cooking it far further than the 56c Target I had inserted at the beggining. It keeps cooking during the Resting period and at the end when it says Cook Done its already 65 degrees, overcooked and for the bin. I paid 100 Euros for this piece of junk metal with Wifi capabilities. Totally useless and paid by my own hard earned money...
