Demonstration of the Opticreach Mechanical Splice. The Splice offers a loss of around 0.1dB. The universal mechanical splice is suitable for all Singlemode and Multimode fibres. Average splice time is around 2-3 mins.
The tooling required to perform the splice is minimal.
Stripping Tool for fibre
Alcohol (IPA 99.9%)
Fibre Optic Cleaver
Alignment Jig
Visual Fault locator (optional)

hey thats great in your weather controlled lab, now go out in -2° blizzard weather like we have to in the real world...impossible to mechanically splice fiber in freezing tempretures

Vignesh Venkatesan you are right, I work for att, fiber is fusion spliced up to the terminal, then at the FST the service drop connects to one of the ribbon line through a mechanical splice. The way I see it, if the cleaver is in good condition, there is very little loss between connections.
