I think they're a little too arcane for a general audience and companies are always chasing the money... That's why FROM has made like 1.5 armored cores in ten years, but 8 fantasy arpgs
Can I get my money back? This game sucks. I'm a FASA fan and top NBT commander from the 90's (Defenders of the Dixie Cups Merc and Clan Jade Falcon) it doesn't even appeal to me.
@@positrack99 The funny thing is when they got money from EPIC it was suppose to release in September and was pushed back. Than they did a December Release taht was buggy as hell. Me and many other cancealed our pre-order. Only reason I played it cause a friend bought me it on epic. So all that money and they delayed and they still didn't get it done right. Now it's a year and 4 months later and they still aren't relased on GOG and Steam. WHile I did like the combat over MWO, but it felt like we where in a 90's game when your in your mechbay, it was very slugish and cheap looking.
@@likeorasgod may 27'th is the PC / Console serfs release date. i hope you guys did a good job alpha testing the game for me. jokes aside, anyone that played MWO could see this coming; they can't even run that game right, and they're getting cash by the shovel from fans.
BattleTech was actually a tabletop that started in the 80s before the MechWarrior video game adaptions. In fact battle tech launched mechwarrior as a tabletop before it became the video game series.
Well, yes? There is a nice Hare Brain Schemes game out on Steam by that name right now. Good stuff. Originally it was Battletech, Citytech, Aerotech in box sets.
BattleDroids was okay. It was renamed BattleTech because George Lucas is a poison dwarf. First edition didn't have much content. It was a game about giant robots, and that was cool, but it didn't exactly stand out. No one gave it glowing reviews. There were some great tabletop editions, but not until long after the first PC game came out...which was only a few years after the first edition.
What I really love is that they kept elements from MWO and Battletech like aesthetics and mech customization. It gives the 3 games a sense of being in a united universe. They also kept traditional elements like really crappy AI for your lancemates too, so you'll get that retro MW2 feel (this is funny, but sad).
Thats probably the worst part How are you going to have mech variants; just swap out the arm, what is the point of hardpoints? not to mention that part where the same model is used across weapons, and only changes for variants
Hawken was perfect outside of three small things that eventually killed it. 1. Skill ceiling was too high. New players would just get roasted constantly 2. Maybe shouldn't have been free to play because that killed the devs monitization efforts. 3. Weird name that didn't convey what the game was about, limiting people who might have been interested in the robot fight genre.
There was no customization. Everything was behind a pay wall. Even basic color. I wanted that game to be great, but with hundreds of games with the same mech and same weapons .... It got boring
Awesome reply, I cannot support the Epic Store because of exclusivity. I've been telling people for years, unless you're a reviewer try and play games 12 months in the past. You get them at a snip of the price, fully patched and even maybe some dlc.
To me it's been ever since the crash of 2008 when investors realized they could start pushing for nothing but pay-to-rent-to-buy-limited-access-to-slot-machines-with-make-believe-virtual-items-in-them.
M.A.V (Modular Assault Vehicle) by Bombdog Studios that is actually some kind of small remake/relaunch of chromehounds out there, they have a discord and stuff, just google and you'll find it/them :)
Enjoyable game with some issues that need shoring up. Seriously youtube just screws everyone and demonetizes everything come by the patron and join with us! www.patreon.com/AngryCentaurGaming
Thank youuuu for mentioning Robot Jox and knowing what the hell the movie even is. My child hood movie of choice by far so much so that my dad stopped asking me what movie I wanted to rent from family video because that was always my choice lol all he had to do was buy me the vhs and I would have stopped asking him to rent it. Game looks great! Great review as always buddy 😊
Yeah, but no "All Systems Nominal". :( I do hope they patch that in some day. Edit: I eat my own words. It was absent in the beta, but it's here at launch. ALL SYSTEMS NOMINAL!
Titanfall 2 really raised the bar for how good it can feel to pilot a mech. Also, one of my favorites from when I was a kid was Shogo Mobile Armor Division. That game was awesome and really underrated!
I really want a titanfall game that sells and keeps a playerbase bette than cod and battlefield. They really deserve it's really sad they all die so fast.
I use Galaxy 2.0 now for my entire game library so I can care less about sticking to one storefront since all my libraries are compiled into one location .
@@chrisgibson8863 Weird to point out that you can care less. Are you trying to say that you care way too much about this sort of thing and that's why you think you could care less. Or maybe you're trying to say you only care a little bit but you could always care even less...or maybe... I'm just guessing here. Maybe you mean that you couldn't care less. Honestly I don't know. But I probably could care a little bit less about it. You know, in the grand scheme of things.
@@SkelNeldory I'm glad you brought that up actually. Literally not a second has gone by since I wrote those words that I have not thought about clarifying the intent of my statement. To answer I think we first have to evaluate our definition of "caring". Keep in mind this is our own individual definition of the word and the meaning behind it. What does it mean to you? What does it mean to me? What does it's meaning to you mean to me? What does it's meaning to me mean to you? Perhaps most importantly we have to ask ourselves, what led us to ask the question to begin with? Now I say "us" but do I really mean that? How much of you did I have in mind when I asked the question? That really brings us to the root of it doesn't? The epicenter of our discussion. Now speaking of that I apologize for keeping this so centered on my own thoughts, feelings, ideas and branching beliefs. As a matter of fact as we begin to broach this area I think it's important to hold close to what brought us to this discussion to begin with, this meeting ground, this table of mutual respect we both find ourselves sitting at. Respect, that's really what's important isn't it? Sometimes I get accused of being to concise in my statements and I think I am guilty of doing just that here. Respect. When we keep respect in mind we can really accomplish anything. You have value, you are important. But I do wonder if I am being far to self centered with regards to making such a blanketed statement about you. Are you important because I am wielding my own sense of importance to bestow that title upon you? Do I have that kind of power ? Power... Power and control. Two essential pieces to the puzzle that we both find ourselves wrapped up with at this very moment. A puzzle of your choosing or mine? Now to answer that I think we have to move towards a question that has existed since the dawn of time. Who are we really? I would like to answer that with a question
with Piranha - it's all about the MTX .. I just can't trust them after MWO and the fact it's Epic store exclusive, this will just be a budget next year when it's cheap game.
Ian H just saw article that stated the game you buy is the game you get one and done deal, might have been pc gamer I am not 100 percent on that. I’m still skeptical tbh
So sick of poor AI. I can remember when developers were bragging about the ai they created . Seems like game devs do not care about ai anymore which ruins immersion . Tired of whack a mole gaming .
cus it's all about gfx these days, eww make it purdy, nobody cares about the technical side, AI or mission structure etc I mean more universally, to me games like GTA and RDR are just more graphically impressive than they are enjoyable at least to me... Halo 4 and 5 also look impressive visually but are vapid from a story POV and most modern games are like this
@@EnterpriseKnight Plus Epic is not very likely to put a game on sale as long as it has exclusivity rights. Why would they? It's not like we can get it anywhere else yet.
'Mechs are powered by fusion engines, pal. No diesel, no nothing with carbon chains. What you smell burning... is probably just some wiring and a very small piece of meat.
Just found this channel for the first time. So happy. Haven't seen detailed reviews like this since TB left us. The comedy may not be my style but it's not obnoxious. The detail and depth here was amazing. Subscribed. Thanks for the content mate, I'll be checking you for game reviews going forward.
I game for over a 20 years and during that time I have read/watched hundreds if not thousands reviews but thus far you are the best reviewer I ever stumbled upon. Not only you have similar taste but also you are not shy to point broken features or simply say that reviewed title is shitty. The cherry on top of that, you have very good sense of humor. You simply Rock!!
It was my favorite part of the golden age of PC gaming. As much fun as I had in the beginning with Mechwarrior 2, Earthsiege 1&2, Shattered Steel, etc. It reached its prime in the late 90’s. When Mechwarrior 3, Starsiege, and Heavy Gear II came out I was really loving it. Mechwarrior 4 was the final phase and I put a ton of hours into that one also.
Just an fyi for people passing through, if you hit "o" while in your mech you can bypass the overheating shut down but it does damage your own mech by bypassing the emergency shutdown from overheating. Have a good one yall~
didn't russ bollocks say that there won't be a steam release? or was that just for people who backed for this game to happen even though he promised steam keys in writing?
@@FerrickAnima russ is a piece of shit. He lost thousands of preorders when people found out that Russ sold out to epic games. We want this game on steam. Not any other platform.
@@FerrickAnima It doesn't have to be on Steam exactly (GoG would be fine), but if they're retarded enough to never release it on any PC platform other than Epic I'm just gonna pirate it. Because fuck Epic and fuck Epic exclusives.
@@jong2359 oh, i am seeding every exclusive on epic (that has been cracked) indefinitely, even if i end up buying some of the titles :) i just don't need to pirate for myself, i can pay for some of the things i enjoy.
The only way they wouldn't release Clan Invasion DLC is if they (Piranha Games) either a) Want to prove their incompetence literally knows no bounds or b) They want to make a full release and milk us for more c-bills (and Epic for more exclusivity deals)
That game was great untill we found out you could just win every match without even fighting the enemy.. just lob artilery on all possible base spawn points and win
I see that a lot of people are torrenting this game so that they can play it without giving epic money and then later buying it on steam to support the devs
I've never played a Mechwarrior in my life. All I remember is that this was one of the games I wanted to play so fucking badly as a kid, but I had no money even though we did have a PC back at home. Ended up forgetting about the franchise when I grew up, kinda sad. And now this one is EPIC exclusive for a year. A year from now and I might just forget about the franchise again.
Oooh...Pirhania GAMES. For a couple minutes there I thought about Pirhania BYTES and was amazed that they went so much outside their niche comfort zone
@@GhostCow from what I recall, keyboard and mouse has always worked better. Especially mouse aiming. MW3 especially as well. I remember MW2 +Mercs having bad mouse support in general, so it makes sense to me that after perfecting it, it's more attuned to a mouse. That being said, hell yeah I want better HOTAS support for this. (Apparently it's bad)
ive been playing mechwarrior for thirty years, and finally being able to walk around outside the mech is so thrilling...so far i just played the tutorial level, but im digging it so far
Yea I hate to admit it, this is the first game I bought on EPIC. I told myself I should just wait until it comes out on steam but I'm such a hardcore fan of the old MechWarriors and I loved Battle Tech that came out last year, I just had to buy it.
Grab a couple of mods... better spawns, better laser effects, and realistic ballistic velocities. Makes a good game great! Will really come into its own if they do a clan invasion dlc. I want my Vapor Eagle 3 and advanced tactical missiles.
I can't believe they *still* haven't added a mechanic for a mech to get toppled. A grappeling hook for pulling lights and mediums off their feet and then a deathstomp to crush their cockpits as they lie squrming on the ground - that's what my kingcrab needs.
HBS's Battletech is probably the closest to that. I have it with the Season Pass and am still playing it 800 hours later. I am a huge Battletech fan though so that is a part of that as well :). That said, I also have Front Mission 3 and 4 so I am a fan of that type of play. I would love to see a remake of one of those or a new entry in the series all together.
Voice actor here with just about four years of experience. I always apply to these companies best as I can through whatever means necessary (no agency or anything - sad fuckin times) because I always feel like if they want REAL voice acting, I can deliver that. I always ask those with really wooden voices too.. cause they clearly got the wrong bunch.
The world looks freaking massive..are there really that many places you can go? Did any of you guys have the Steel Batallion controller, or know anyone that had it?
I think the sound needs to be covered a LOT more...in this case..the lack of current audio standards like Dolby Atmos/DTS:X, which are both coming hard onto the marketplace, its 2019, not 1995..we need to call dev's on this...in their audio...
From what I heard in many videos. I agree for the music. While I loved the tracks in MW4 Mercenaries. I always hoped one day the series would go back to the absolute perfection of MW2 soundtrack. It gave the game a whole different feeling.
Yeah the MW2 series had fantastic music, I still play em regularly and find myself humming tracks way too often. Still have CD's and MP3 rips , they were also on Spotify (gone? still there?).
I might just have to pick up a good HOTAS setup and just throw myself right in. I loved mechwarrior 2 back in the day and now that same feel is in the 21st century.
I was informed by MW2 as a kid, as an adult I tried Armored Core. It spent 15 minutes in my house and was promptly returned to gamestop. My point is that for some, these are not analogous titles.
Solid review, just what I was looking for: a review by someone who isn't a complete battletech/mechwarrior fanatic. So many of the hardcores are way too biased to review this game fairly and point out the warts, or the shiny spots so thank you for doing both. I want to play it but I can wait for Steam release.
My biggest gripe is the characters on the ship. Ryana for example.. She's stiff as a board and virtually unmoving. A little more care could've been taken for the hub space to make it feel more alive.
I did enjoy trying this fast mech with jumpjets that i made into a perfect Masterchief mech complete with an autorifle type looking weapon but i still enjoy the slower heavier mechs more and slowly creaking along through canyons feeling like an unstoppable colossus.
@@chimpman3496 Not really. That is like saying battletech is mechwarrior 4.5 They are in the same universe all 3. but mech commander 1 and 2 are a different game than battletech. mech commander 1and 2 are rts, mechwarrior 1-5 are first/3rd person shooters and battletech is tbs. Same universe, different game series.
Even if I'm not interested in the game I still watch your review videos.it's the entertainment factor and how much thought and time you put into these that draws me in. Plus being a longtime MechWarrior fan this was a no-brainer to watch
I heard a chromehounds callout at the beginning. Where my fellow hound pilots at? Taskforce 6-26, 1st place on leaderboard, cannon hound pilot here. Humble brag from my super nerdy childhood.
Oho, been waiting to see what you thought about this game. It was an automatic refund and wait for sale when they switched to Epic midway. Halo, POE2 and DOS2 will keep me busy till 2077 drops.
So would you say the maintenance and travel system is just like Battletech recent release? Seems so to me.. which mean not as steep a learning curve for BT players...good job as always..... also can you use environmental conditions to limit or exacerbate heat sinks
@@ACGreviews and/or Phantom Crash. Mech games are a lost art like tactical RPGs. The best of both worlds was Front Mission 4 by square enix. Ever play?
Yeah, that "dropped the ball" excuse as to why Phoenix Point isn't launching on Windows Store is some horse shit. They could have used that bribe from Epic to hire people that knew what they were doing.
a someone working in an industry, since when do people work more or better when you pay them in advance ? never they couldn't care less, they already have the money even if it's unconscious they do less for sure
So this is pretty much exactly what I expected from the release of this game, a bit of effort across the board but no polish. Great review as always, will take your advice and wait for a sale.
All the times I've found myself with half of the OPFOR company on my ass because the others are doing left turns around the map. It'll be just like old times.
Close, but not quite. I watched 2 other reviews before this one popped up, and I gotta say they weren't quite as quality and indepth as this one. And that is why I watch ACG. XD
Mech warrior was my first vidoe game I ever played. I got to play it on my dads original Xbox seeing that image of the cougar took me back. Miss that game, still have the original game disc and cover it came in.
