I have a phenomenal new team member based in Kathmandu. Her name is Phurpa Sherpa and she is my Nepalese media liaison officer. One of her first tasks was to organise a press meet and she sure did deliver!
It was an awesome experience to talk to the journalists about my project “Respect Above the Clouds” and what it means. To share my background as a guide to my midlife crisis and menopause journey. To also share how passionate I am about educating climbers that come to attempt Everest and other high altitude peaks. That they are responsible for having the appropriate training and experience before they arrive to the mountain. Otherwise it put local guides and all others on the mountain in danger.
I was hosted by my expedition partners Seven Summit Treks and 14 Peaks Expeditions. Thaneswar the manager of SST spoke about my project as well as the importance of their company to tourism in Nepal. Did you know they employ around 2500 Nepali workers? They contribute millions of dollars to the economy in Nepal. Mingma the chairman addressed the media as well as Mikel. It was a huge success and since then over 30 articles have been published! Well done Phurpa and welcome to the team!
