Media Manipulation: How Britney and Christina's Feud Was Created 

Hate how ppl still say “Christina was so mean” and then it’s just Christina saying she didn’t wanna talk about Britney in interviews

Most people, Britney fans in particular, dont give Christina enough grace on this topic. Yes she was catty and disrespectful at one point. But she has long since been humbled AND you all fail to acknowledge the pressure and exploitation she faced herself. Her attitude did not come from nothing. It stemmed from politics within the industry and people around these women manipulating the situation for profit. This isnt to entirely excuse her diva attitude, but many people do not consider the depth of Christinas side whatsoever. Throw sa, extreme wealth and fame into the mix and youve got substance abuse issues and a whole lot of mess. Yes, Britney is a sympathetic character and what she went through is beyond what most have. But Christina is also a victim as well. Someone needs to say this because i already know this comment section is going to be filled with one sided perspectives and mindless pop stan slander.

Looking back the 90’s & 00’s media was so wild. Things were so problematic. Eating disorders, Virginity Jokes, Misogyny, Colorism etc. Controversy was running rampant back then

I was a teenager doing this era so I remember all of this you did a really good job with this one.

Such an awesome video and important problem that is present in society till this day! As a latino, watching your video reminded me a very similar media feud we had back in the day. If you guys had the "Britney vs Xtina", us Latin America we had "Thalía vs Paulina Rubio". Both young, beautiful Mexican pop superstars that were part of the same band, "Timbiriche" and then release their solo debut at the same time. The only difference was that there was REAL bad blood between them, since they were teenagers with big diva attitudes. Misogyny and sexism were also present from the media, but both of them increased the fight, throwing shade one to the other whenever they could. Also Latin media tried to do the same, putting Shakira against other Latin popstars but since she has a very smooth and gentle personality and collaborated with other big female artist like Beyoncé and Rihanna, it never awaked any controversy at all. I love your videos. They help to improve my English skills. ❤

I was a child of the late 90s/early 00s and I was a big fan of Britney and Christina, especially Britney. I have the CDs of Christina’s first 2 albums and Britney’s first 4 albums and had posters of both on my wall. I distinctly remember the media constantly painting Britney in a bad light and saying she was a bad role model and I always thought every criticism about her was blown out of proportion. God the absolute FUSS her 2000s VMAs fit caused. My kid brain was like “what’s the big deal she’s still wearing cloths it’s just the color of her skin!” Britney could do no wrong in my eyes, she was “sweetheart” personified while still being this fierce and talented performer on stage. Will always love Brit!

Xtina was always painter as the bag girl bcoz of her image during stripped. But what she is saying back are all true. Look who is toxic. While the other girl is gracious, the nice girl back then became the narcissistic mean gurl who is feuding with everyone😂😂😂

I was born in 1988.. the mid 90's as a kid was the best!! The early 2000's as a pre-teen was iconic and something I didnt appreciate enough at the time.

that's a natural part of being teen idols and has to a point been that way since the late 1950s so its nothing new. though its particularly full of mind fields when it involves teenage/early 20s aged girls Britney released her first three studio albums before she was age 20 while Christina's first four albums were released before her 22nd birthday one of them being a Spanish album Mi Reflejo and a Christmas album My Kind Of Christmas. pitting powerful vocalists against each other is often a publicity stunt for record labels take Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey as an example though Christina's first major recording was Reflection from the Mulan Soundtrack in 1998 so it was released before she turned 18 same as Britney's first album Baby One More Time was on January 12th 1999

It was created bc X Tina started bashing Britney. The only other celeb to bash her at this time was Avril Lavigne. Avril claims she did it to show how punk rock she was, to fit that image she had to pretend to hate the queen. P.s I never liked Avril, good music sure, but she’s a phony and she gives me creepo vibes with her K9 fangs. Anyhow X Tina was talking smack on Britney and nobody else was. Britney clapped back while remaining humble. She continued to dominate the music industry. And then Justin and her broke up and X Tina took Justin’s side!!! It was obvious X Tina was super jealous of Britney. Later, they did do the VMA together, but it was business. X Tina is a hypocrite and anyone who takes her side is just a Karen. I loved those moments, and they could have easily gave the ppl what they wanted and combined forces. Causing the battle between them had no bearing whatsoever for longevity. It would have been wiser to collaborate and combine both fandoms especially bc most fans loved both pop stars. I think this was made clear during the VMA’s with Madonna. However, X Tina had to be a mean girl. She started it. It came from jealousy. So now you can skip the video! Britney is a star, not everyone is naturally a star, and so many want to take her light for themselves. She is kind, talented, beautiful and I dk awesome! Edit: it wasn’t until Britney started hanging out with Paris Hilton that ppl started to turn against her. Ppl didn’t bash her until she married Kevin F. Pink is also a mean girl! She started beef with X Tina which wasn’t justified and then later made a song called “stupid girls” proclaiming that if a woman uses her beauty for profit that they are stupid and they should inspire to play football instead.
