The singing here is absolutely marvellous. The music sounds as though it were pulled from the heart of Midgard itself, and the voices singing here are like that of godesses. This song truly serves as a reminder to all of native Europe's beauty.
@@leosmith8596 I wholeheartedly agree mate. I'm in my 20s, so caring about this kind of stuff makes me something of an anomaly. Just out of interest, do you live in the UK?
My head is about to explode from Beauty Overload. Amazing version of the classic, great stylization, amazing composition and, basically, an stunning display of talent. Bravo girls, bravissimo.
They are truly astounding live. Saw them a few years ago at Leicester Cathedral, and before then at the Tabernacle in London, and both times were simply stunning, spellbinding, beautiful. Their talents know no bounds, quite simply these ladies are majestic. Their linguistic skills are mind blowing, and their voices are not of this world. Incredible performers and vocalists.
I am always inspired and delighted with Mediaeval Baebes and the music that succumbs and resonates with the facets of the heart. I will never get enough.
Since people don't seem aware: this song is in Latin, a more "modern" version of the Roman version. The lyrics sound beautiful until you realize what they are saying and you have a very harmonic dance of beauty and death- yes I mean death (there are several lines in which they directly talk about the subject of death.)
The lyrics are beautiful once you see the true meaning. Death is beautiful, it has always been a source of inspiration for countless music, poems and tales.
Actually it's from medieval poetry. Adapted by Carl Orff in 30's in "Carmina Burana". Extremely slow and sad interpretation. I much prefer it as interpreted Qntal "Flamma". They nailed the spirit of this poem. Medieval Baebes are off on this one.
*Coughs in embarrassment* I saw the description and literally squealed out loud. My throat hurts now. These ladies always brighten my day and bring tears to my eyes. Thank you so much for bringing such beauty to my life.
Veni, Veni Bella Cum gaudio Veni, domicello Iam Pereo. Veni, veni floreo, Iam amore virginali, Veni, veni bella, Novus novus amor Est, quo pereo. Sile, Philumena, Totus floreo Surge cantilena Totus ardeo Tua me confortat Promissio, Tua me deportat Negatio Veni, veni floreo, Iam amore virginali, Veni, veni bella, Novus novus amor Est, quo pereo.
Goodness me, these fine ladies are supremely talented, with gorgeous voices, linguistically exquisite and beautiful. Seen them perform twice, each time was just sublime, wonderful and majestic.
Doesn't matter if they dance or not !!! Smile or not ... simply the song is PERFECT and relax your mind after a hard day work !! Please Mediaeval Baebes come to Mexico !!! I am a fan from you !!! Thanks wonderful ladies, beautiful and intelligence exist together thanks to you !! :D
If you like this, you'll probably like Miranda Sex Garden's album Madra. One of the members of Medieval Bæbes, Katharine Blake was in MSG. All of MSG's music is great, though Madra is the only one with a close sound to this as it's a collection of madrigal songs. The rest of MSG is post-punk music with madrigal influences which is actually really interesting in itself!
can't stop watching this video! beautiful song with an amazing video!!! i really can't wait for the new tour. hopefully will have my hand tattoo of the faerie baebe finished off by then, could even try to have the band sign it and have that tattooed on 2!
Simply wonderful. The clue is in the name, ie, Mediaeval, and that's what I love. I didn't like the foray into more modern sounding songs but all things mediaeval I love! Keep it up girls and PLEASE come back up north (north in this context being Lancashire/Cumbria) sometime soon.
This is so beautiful! I am currently snowbound in the mountains and this is the perfect antidote to my winter doldrums. I am so glad to see them returning to a more acapella based sound and I agree with others that the dancing is beautiful and fits the haunting and ethereal music.
@@avagalaxy4481 No way your mom is Katharine Blake! I'm a big fan of her old band Miranda Sex Garden. I only discovered it this year but I really love the song Fear from the Iris EP. Tell her that her music made my day!
absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!! can't wait for the new album. had it pre ordered from ages ago. saw them live last year in Liverpool cathedral crypts, can't tell you how blown away i was! Amazing voices, amazing show and stunning presence. Always brightens even the gloomiest of moods when i listen to them.
OK. Specifics. It is simple modern dance choreographed to look vaguely medieval by the the Baebe's choreographer and staged by their director, Michael Verbese.. I forget the choreographer's name, but you can find him talking about the dance creations on the MB's website videos.
Their voices are beautiful and the scenery is appropriate for the atmosphere this music is creating. The only thing I do not like, and it's the same thing among many English and American singers/groups/choirs is the usage of "Italian" pronunciation of the Latin language. Also, another thing about pronunciation is the usage of æ and there's no such thing in Latin. Other than that, I really enjoyed listening to them.
From a Latin teacher , there is really no correct Latin pronunciation. Latin was a spoken Language for more than a thousand years and continued to be used as lingua franca for another thousand. It continues to be the official language of Vatican City. In nearly 2000 years you can rest assured that pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar changed a great deal. The Latin spoken by Numa Pompilius, was very different from the Language of Ennius and Ennius Latin was different from Cicero's or Caesar's . There was also a significant difference between the Latin spoken and pronounced by educated individuals and the common people; there were also regional variations of pronunciation. The so called classical pronunciation is a reconstructed approximation of what scholars believe Latin was pronounced by the Roman's of the 1st century BC. Ecclesiastical pronunciation on the contrary reflects the pronunciation of the common people in the early middle ages.
The band name is in English. Mediæval Bæbes is the Middle English spelling of the Modern English Medieval Babes. They sing in a variety of languages that include Modern English, Middle English and the vulgar (speech of the common people) dialect of Latin that you are complaining about. That it is not the dialect you want them to use matters not, it is the dialect used by this band of singers. If you really want to be taken seriously, you should learn more about the subjects you choose to comment on before you demonstrate your ?understanding?
You can download a HD version from my vimeo page, as long as it is for personal use only: can't put the url in (youtube filter?) but go to vimeo, forward slash, grahamtrott Graham Trott
The video is as beautiful as the music is in this video especially when you go full screen. I just wish that I could watch the entire video without pauses in the video fee. Also, I want to know if the video for this song will be for sale?
