This video demonstrates how to calculate the median deviation (median absolute deviation) using SPSS. The mean absolute deviation is calculated using a combination of “Compute Variable” and “Descriptive Statistics.”
I've always knew how to calculate the median but getting the step by step instructions for computer use is very helpful and a great tool when documenting
I have not used SPSS in years and has always been intimidating to me (as other commenters have likewise mentioned). However, this video did a superb job of explaining what to do to calculate the median and the median absolute deviation. Thank you, Dr. Grande. I look forward to utilizing these videos as needed in the future.
Dr. Grande, thank you for sharing this. I dont actively use SPSS, but give that im in a class that will be covering related information, this video is informative and helpful.
The demonstration was extremely helpful, along with the explanation. I watched this video twice to help me understand the concept a bit more. As I continue throughI a course that I am currently taking, this video will be used as a great reference/ tool.
This provides easy to follow steps and makes both concepts seem pretty simple, especially since you do not need to change the statistic from nominal to variable.
The step-by-step instructions are very helpful. I fully understood what median and median deviation was. I would like to practice this in class on SPSS. That will really help me know this profoundly.
Videos such as this are helpful when working with median deviation using SPSS. If I ever need to, I can access your videos when needed to help guide me through the process.
watching this has been helpful in understanding how to calculate median absolute deviation. I feel that it would be likely in my career and education that i may have to use simple calculations such as this one. Your step by step guide was useful and thorough.
SPSS can be intimidating for me since I am unfamiliar but these videos have made it easier and this video helped me learn how to calculate the median deviation.
I found the information easy to follow and understand. Why would the mean absolute deviation be used instead of the standard deviation? Or are they be used in similar ways?
I agree Usha! If it weren't for these videos, I don't know that I could perform these functions with written instructions. The visuals are very helpful and the video overall informative.
I agree as well. I'm a visual learner and it definitely helps me to see the steps performed rather than just reading written instructions or hearing it explained.
I agree with you Kara, this was a very clarifying video. In particular it helped me understand in my project the importance of null hypothesis in a research project to understand the efficiency of a certain treatment compared to others.
I can see where this would become standard knowledge if you did this everyday, however, in the beginning I personally would need to write down step-by-step instructions. Seems complicated as a first time observer.
Jessica, I liked your idea about writing down the instructions until you become familiar with the complexities of the program. I think it is possible to understand how to calculate the median after devoting some extra time to learning it. It seems pretty straight forward over all.
