You're telling me NOONE looked in he's ear after all this time he's been complaining about ringing? Dude the doctor look in my ear when I complain about joint pain why wouldn't they look for an issue directly related to the ear????
Dang, I have had ringing ears sense I was 19 years old. I HAVE NEVER took anything for my ringing ears. Oxycontin has NEVER came up in any of my conversations with my Doctors! The only time I have ever taken this stuff is when I was in the recovery room after Back Surgery!
Oxy does cause ringing in the ear cause it happened to me but if it started before he started the pain meds, all they needed to do was look into his ears…. Wow that was hard wasn’t it?? Problem solved.
It may have been easy to diagnose, but the number of people whose complaints get dismissed is staggering. The clue was given by the doctor.... "look for horses not zebras" --- which means that they are most likely to look for simple easy explanations rather than some rare, more complicated diagnosis. It's in their early training to "look for horses not zebras". Once they suspect or know someone is using drugs.... then they actually spend less time taking the patient seriously.
First, it's a TV show so everything is cartoony and over the top. Second, I don't watch this show so it might be a case of "this hospital is a rough hard to work in location" so a jaded cynical aloof response like this might be typical for this show. Finally, it's really weird why they wouldn't even look in his ears, if this lazy doctor saw it in 3 seconds, then a competent doc would have seen it as well.
I've had tinitus since 1988 and it is easy to live with, you even forget about the ringing most of the time but it comes back when your reminded of it.
Why wouldn't looking in the ear be before any tests? I get that at first, it may not have been as noticeable but after years of it getting worse plus the dr*gs... I feel like that doctor should have looked first then ordered the test.
